Explained without confusing jargon that most teachers input, I’ve never heard this explained in simple plain English. Thanks.

What jargon do you find confusing?
@richardkrispell7904
@richardkrispell7904 5 месяцев назад
If I ever bump into an old music teacher I’ll take their contact details so you can arrange a meet up, probably best if you take a few notepads for all the jargon you're looking for. @@rmv9194

That’s the thing about jargon it tends to go over your head, but if I ever ump into an old music teacher I’ll pass their contact details over to you, bring a few notepads when you meet up, good luck on your jargon search. @@rmv9194

I play progressive rock/metal guitar. I have found writing on the piano has greatly allowed me to make compositions sound more complex and full sounding. Playing ambient chords also breaks up the same old same old.

That’s brilliant, my guy! I wonder if bands like Loathe or Sleep Token develop their thick, chunky, chords and add in some reverb. That’s really cool!

throw in a sharp 11 for extra spice... that is 4 half steps/piano keys up from the last note: so if you went C major as root, that is CEG, and then put a G major on top as he suggested, that is GBD, the sharp 11th would be F sharp. Also, a normal 11th would work too, as in an F, but note that doing that will introduce in the whole makeup the dreaded tritone (BDF in this example) which some would call unnatural, but has it'd place especially when used as an intermittent step to something more pleasant or resolvable. It begs to move over to anything else, but that can also be used to produce a disquietting discord if you choose to resolve/finish with a tritone

Alterations are beautiful when they are used in the right moment of the Song, and If you're playing the same chord as 2 guitars and on bass, Your piano chords just disappear and the alterations (Maj9,maj7,min7(9)) just make the piano appears present and THIS IS BEAUTIFUL... I'm a beatmaker and I l know music theory I know What I tell you...

Hi, Lorenzo. What do you mean by, the 5th of each chord always being the first of a subsequent chord?
@Lorenzo-jx9hs
@Lorenzo-jx9hs 5 месяцев назад
For example C-E-G, G is the first of G-B-A, A the first of A-C-E and and so on... it can be a new basic chord or a seventh or ninth chord, and it's possible play by dividing the notes between hands. how you teach us...

I can’t figure out why anyone would rather describe it as a tri-tone, & count three tones away from the dominant, when the part that really makes sense is that it is a one tiny semitone away from the TONIC/Target chord. All this counting and it’s right there, literally rubbing up against the tonic/target. Absolutely easy to find instantly no matter the tonic/target. Not to mention the fact that it shares the same notes with the iv minus the root.

Why is it called 7th (9)?🤔 If The 5th note is G in the left hand and the right hand plays G Major. Are we counting from the 5th note G in the left hand to the G in the right which is 7 notes away? If so where is 9 coming from?
@jamjama9365
@jamjama9365 4 месяца назад
I believe he’s counting based on the C major scale not the G major scale. So the 9th in C major is D, so D is the highest note in the right hand (and it happens to be the 5th of G major)

I like your videos. This time I have a question about so called "dirty" chords. Combining Gmajor tones with Cmajor tones, for instance, generates a messy spectrum {I hope spectrum analysis is not a foreign topic here). Human ear reacts differently to natural tone combinations (chords) than to dirtier combinations (god knows there are unlimited dirty combinations in use in popular music today). As a normal person's ear (brain) expects resolutive endings in music phrases, sentences and verses, the dirty chords can be and are used as conflict setters only to end a music story with a firm ending in a form of clean chord harmony. Can you, please, make a video about this...with some examples? Many Thanks.

I love this recipe for extended chords. Thanks!! Question though. I’ve had this confusion for some time now. Your maj7(9) chords, would that also be spelled maj9, or dom7(9) spelled dom9. I’ve seen 9 chords spelled this way and never learned the distinction. I know add9 chords are simply adding the 9 to the triad but when all tones from 1,3,5,7,9 are used I always assumed we just use that highest number to spell the chord. IS this correct?

The expression of such chords on both left and right hand depends on how skillfully you are equipped to use them and to know the right song, atmosphere and when to use them at the right moment within a song. Over years of playing and practicing, you develop a deeper sense of understanding to which you can call discernment, to feel and know the right chord to play without too much of practical understanding but more of spiritual connection with your instrument and the atmosphere.
