What’s your thought process on how your choose your Opening shot? Not sure if you’ve already done a video on that but I could really use some tips on that .
That’s a great question. I always find it’s easier to tackle the intro as the final step in the edit, that way you already know exactly what the film is about. For the opening shot you want something that’s both going to grab your attention but also is relevant to the overall subject of the film. There’s no perfect answer since it also depends on what medium people plan on watching it. If it’s a film that’s going to only exist online, then you have a lot of work to do to catch people’s attention early on, so you might lean towards a faster paced intro. Whereas if your film is going to be shown at festivals in theatres where the audience is somewhat forced to sit through your intro, you can get away with a slower, more evolving shot. It also hinges a lot of the topic of your film. Some films have beautiful cinematography to tell the story, others may rely more on the narrative/interviews/archival footage. I hope that somewhat helps? It’s hard to give direct advice without knowing the subject of your film. Good luck!
