Have a slow computer? In this video I explain how proxy files can speed up your workflow and make your editing experience in Adobe Premiere Pro so much easier when working with high resolution media. there are at least 130 billion proxies videos on YT. this is the only one I've been able to find that has a fix for 120fps footage. i quit using 120fps because it was too frustrating. after applying everything you suggested in this video regarding that, speed ramped 120fps footage is as smooth as butter. what was weird is i could slow down 120fps footage as a whole to 20% and it would work fine, but as soon as i added any type of a speed ramp it just exploded premiere. thankfully speed ramping now works. thank you so much for this!

Hey Javier! Thanks for the tutorial, really useful. I was wondering what the encoding preset settings should be if I’m working with footage in aspect ratios other than 16:9. This happened to me once when I was working with high-resolution videos (over 3000px width and height) and when I created proxies I got two black bars at the top and bottom. Thanks for the tutorial once again! 🙌🏼

Thanks SO much for this. I have a GoPro hero 11 and it just wouldn't even preview on premiere pro. However the 'low resolution proxy' doesn't seem to be an option for me, only medium and high. Medium seems to work...? Not sure if this is a normal issue for a hero 11 footage. Thanks!

I pre-edited (Color corrected and added som FX), after converting to Proxies - my footage had to render (35 min) after I toggled proxies - is taht normal?

Hi Javier, quick question, I am a Windows user and I'm basically using my Iphone to shoot pretty simple videos. I am currently experiencing stutters when I try and edit the MOV/HEVC Format. Would there be a way to fix this in premier without having to use third party Apps to convert it? So far the only way I know how is to export it as a different file format in premier but other than that, that's basically it. If this is the only solution, any tips on how to optimize it to it's best quality when I export it as a different file format in premier?

Hey Hey! love your videos! Quick question though... I'm working with proxies created in camera Sony a7s3 shot in 50fps Issue i'm facing, on a 25fps timeline, is when i slow down the proxy footage to 50 percent, it plays back jittery and not smooth. The source monitor plays smooth, on the timeline playback is jittery and then upon export its smooth again, the way its supposed to be. But what am i missing that i'm seeing jittery playback on the timeline?

Since I've been doing most of my editing on my laptop and my program monitor ends up being the size of a postage stamp, I set my proxies to 480x270. Also, I like to watermark them, so you can tell at a glance

As of the 2018 update of premiere I believe windows can both read and write Apple ProRes so you should be fine. CineForm has worked on both for years. Either is fine for this application.

Thanks for this comprehensive tutorial Just a note on the internally recorded proxies on Sony cameras. These are still H.264 or H.265 codecs, which are not intermediate codecs (like prores) so not ideal for editing. You may get away with it because they are 1080p or lower resolution and very low bitrate, so most computers can handle, but still these are not codecs intended for editing. And a second comment about an issue I have even when editing with prores proxies in premiere: When you use warp stabilize on a clip, premiere replaces the clip with the original media, even if you have proxies toggled on. So what happens on a long and complex timeline if you use the warp stabilize effect a lot (like I do), even if you work with proxies you end up with a timeline that is very very laggy to playback or even that does not playback at all (if your computer does not have dedicated decoders for the original media). If you have any solution to this issue I'd be glad to hear. Thanks and I apologize for the long message

If effects are making a timeline lag I export a prores version of the troublesome part, place on the top track, and unenable the bottom ones.

It uses the original clips on export and switches to proxies while editing if you turn the proxies on, meaning you are Jay both simultaneously

Ma se carico un file proxy , devo semplicemente trascinarlo e quando esporto modifica il file originale in 8k? Perchè il drone realizza in automatico il file proxy quindi non ho bisogno di creare tramite Adobe solo che non capisco come andrà a modificare il file in 8k, grazie mille anticipatamente per le risposte ma non ne capisco nulla e non trovo una guida che spiega il risultato finale di questa operazione. Quindi ho un drone che ha già di suo nelle cartelle una contenente i files proxy - 1 carico o trascino nella timeline così si può modificare e fin qui ci sono , poi? Hello, I did not understand an essential thing that no one says and that I completely ignore. But if I upload a proxy file, I just have to drag and drop it and when I export does it change the original file to 8k? Because the drone automatically creates the proxy file so I don't need to create through Adobe I just don't understand how it will change the file in 8k, thanks a lot in advance for the answers but I don't understand anything and I can't find a guide that explains the result end of this operation. So I have a drone that already has in its folders one containing the proxy files - 1 load or drag in the timeline so you can edit and so far there are, then?

What if you are working with footage with 24 fps clips and 120fps clips in the same project? Do you create separate proxies for each batch of fps clips?

For example using proxies using the create proxy method for the 24fps clips with the QuickTime format, then using the preset outlined in this video for the 120fps footage in the same project. Will that cause any problems when editing?

I love your videos. Thanks for sharing your knowledge. Quick question about that part at the end. I understand why you do it that way instead of interpret footage, but is it the same to change your speed/duration than reinterpret footage to a slower frame rate to match your sequence and get the slow motion result? I remember a teacher telling me to not do it that way because it was wrong. Did he lie to me? 😱😱

Great video, but i am having some trouble. When trying to create a proxy i get the following error: "the selected preset does not support the audio channel type of the clip" I have tried changing the proxy presets settings to match the audio settings of the original clip with no success. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

Probably need to go with pro res then when creating the proxy. Hopefully that helps
