F-104s have such a simple playstyle yet they still manage to be fun almost every time

What a surprise to see interceptors actually working with taking altitude and then... INTERCEPTING... It abolutely dumbfound me to see less than 2 players per game actually going high up.

Your observations about the BR spread are pretty much spot on. I recently began playing the F-4EJ and F-4EJ Kai after having spaded the F-104J. Even without flares I have almost a 2 KD in the starfighter and that was before this mysterious spike in F5C players. Now in the Kai I almost never see downtiers but in the EJ it's a tossup. Uptiers are getting me body slammed and downtiers to 10.0 is literally US vs US where 3/4 of the entire game lobby is low to medium level F5C players. I have no clue what happened in the last week and a half that prompted everyone and their mother to buy that plane but it made my EJ Kai grind just that little bit easier.

A small tip, use the armor target belts instead of the air target belts for the Vulcan. That seems to allow the gun to be more effective.

After being clubbed by A-10s in the Harrier GR.1 for ages, this does put a smile on my face.

It's fun with the Mig21 as well. There will ALWAYS be at least 3 or 4 A10s not paying attention at all. And unless some dumb teammate goes in too fast at a bad angle and warns them, they're usually easy kills.

As on of two "Token Italian Main"s in my friend group, who was on the F-104G when Apex Predators dropped and the F-104S when the BR changes hit, I can safely assure everyone that this is 100% accurate. Before that BR update when the F-104S was also at 10.7, I was getting three kills a game easy. After it dropped it took me three days to get a kill. Repeat: THREE DAYS to get A SINGULAR KILL. I went from occasionally worrying about Tomcats and F-16s being mythical beasts to flying in the middle of a squadron of MiG-29s every match. It was PAIN. Now that I have AIM-9Ls thanks to the F-104S ASA things are much better (though I still only get four of them despite both other S variants getting six Sidewinders, the hell Gaijin?), but I'm still not quite up to "clubbing baby seals looking at the deck while I pounce from behind" levels of memeage any more.

I definitely found spading my F-104S that the gun is just too useful to give up for more missiles. I killed more A-6s with my guns than any other aircraft

This matchmaker is the reason why I love the marine tornado, the US premium players are usually really clueless and present easy kills

tbh the F104s gameplay loop is simply just amazing.

@0:25 unfortunately if you dont have a teamate above you or you dont have max crew +qualification all too often you wont see jets and the missiles they shoot at you from above you until its too late. You also forget a few extra steps Step. 4 run away Step. 5 wait until you can shoot the enemy in the back Step. 6 repeat step 4 if the enemy tries to fight back in any form until you can repeat step 5.

I adore the F-104J and G, they're both my absolute favorite jets to fly besides the Tornado (it looks beefy I like it just for that) and because they're fast with no turning ability it adds charm to it. I love it.

I have noticed similar things regarding the matchmaker in my Tornado IDS MFG. The MFG was my first high tier jet. I never really enjoyed planes. I'm just not really good at it. And yet a find myself doing quite well in the MFG. My biggest fear was getting absolutely stomped by F16s, F14s and Mig29s, but I find that I either don't encounter those all that often or that they aren't as big s threat as I had though in the case of the F14. I usually climb to around 7km (making sure to not fly directly towards the enemy to avoid getting stomped because I'm slow af), bomb two or more bases and kill the odd plane. It's quite enjoyable actually (much more so than playing CAS in ground RB which is ironic as that was my main reason for grinding the MFG xD) I try to learn as I go as to not stay a high tier noob, but I feel I'm already doing well enough to be of use to the team.

I've found the F-104C at 9.3 to be unable to replicate this as it has no flares and keeps getting eaten by AV-8 premiums and the like while its own missiles rarely make hits on anything moving at all.

The f104 was designed to do what the pilots wnated it to do. Which is climb good. While yes, it was an "interceptor," that was basically the job of everything else US-made around that era.

10.3 is a really common br cause of like the F5 and A10 and such, which is a problem for me in a mig 19 getting routine full uptiers with these all aspect slingers and I haven't even got rear aspect missiles let alone countermeasures

At this point, high tier is a place for farming. I play low tier because it’s the only place where I can meet other players who KNOW how to fly a damn plane.

When the Su-25 came out, I dusted of my fav phantom, the C, yeeted the cannon off, full missiles, consistently wiped all the Su-25s on the enemy team id they didn't get killed before hand

Same basic procedure you can use with Mirage IIIC with rocket booster. but it's way trickier to 9b an A-10- but win some loose some- you can get 530E (the IR guided one) to kill unsuspecting idiots from miles away, while being to dodge enyone you cannot outrun.

Just got it yesterday and its actually pretty fun. Being able to just climb to fucking space like a rocket and then dive on people is funny. Though this plane is very team dependent so if your team dies in the first minutes of the match its ggwp.

If only the American version of the 104 was this good

Okay so apparently I'm being a weirdo as I've chosen and am currently grinding the German tree but with this info I'll say, I sat and laughed at this planes numbers with my friend just a few days ago and now, wow imma have something fun in "top tier"

You can apply this exact strategy with the mig 21 mf and you'll get about the same results

This exactly what I do right now, but I do it with the J35XS. Climb up to 8000m, get behind the slowest A-10 or A-6 and orbital strike them into oblivion.

Mostly people told me that aiming with jets are worse than with props, I could say no, for me gunning jets is much more easily, since the bullets are faster and planes are faster, so you won't have to adjust the aim to much, and no need to say about the power of those cannons, 0.5 sec burst is more than the necessary to destroy other plane.

10.7 starfighter with flare is actually good but Chinese and japanese one is really really painful

God i hate being an American main, I’m stuck at 10.0 in my F-4C with my team of literal infants in A-10s and F-5s. They could’ve at least given me flares but no, thats reserved for other countries

ok so thats why i was having trouble, i was using the f104A and was so frustrated with game after game of my missles not tracking, guess ill grind the lions for the G and try that one out, seems to have alot better armament

my friend plays Italy and had both top tier air and ground (before the F-16 was added btw), and every time I mentioned the F-104 near him he gets really mad about how he had to grind 3 F-104s in a row and how it wasn't fun going against F-14s and stuff. I mean this is the same friend that plays Italy only so he can complain about playing Italy so idk he's a strange case
