Omg this cured my throat tension! I’ve always stuck my neck out like a giraffe bc I’m 6’1” and although the position from the video feels like my neck is short 😂 it really did help a lot. Thank you!

Awesome Guy It's ok to lean forward when playing the guitar, as long as you're not sticking your chin forward!!! You can lean forward but keep the chin down and back of the neck elongated. Takes a little practice to get used to, but it's pretty simple to get down initially.

. I've was a touring professional opera singer in my younger days. At that time the higher range roles did not seem attainable. This young man has given me the key to unlocking those higher elusive notes, which is just brilliant at the age of 68. I never thought I was capable of singing and enjoying the higher tessitura roles. . Thank you so much. You are providing great tuition.... Paul Waite.

Hey Marnell! Just wanted to leave a comment and thank you for all these videos. RU-vid is so full of 1-2min singing tips that it's absurd. I never realized until recently that I stuck my head forward because it was such a habit it felt neutral! I literally was getting headaches from singing (I sign for a living, so I could still sing passively. It it always feels harder than it needs to) anyways so happy that this one simple thing seems to be addresssing all the problems I’ve been having!!

Thanks for the great tip, +Marnell Sample! This was such a timely video to re-watch. Yesterday I was reminded of the importance of keeping a neutral head position by re-reading notes from our lessons back in 2011, and the difference is night and day! I was watching a video today of a singer who's known for her "effortless" high notes, and I noticed for the first time that she sticks her chin out for all of her high notes. Yikes!!! Many listeners have no idea how constricted and lacking in resonance that type of sound is.

One of my teacher's used to say, in opposition to the idea of p r o j e c t i n g -----> the sound, to just sing as far in front of you as the length of your arm extended in front of you....he hoped to stop singers from pushing too much breath out of the mouth....your excellent video reminded me of this notion, although you were mainly speaking about neck alignment, which is also a tremendous aid in keeping the pharynx open, as you point out....To the point and right on with facts imho.

Except that I put my thumb and index finger in the shape of an L - with the tip of my thumb slightly touching my Adam's apple and the index finger touching the tip of my nose. This way, I can also check if my voice box stays in a neutral position.

What an awesome video! i love learning about singing, am motivated to improve as much as i can vocally and knowledge vise, have been for the last 2years, and so many of your videos have talked on topics and given tips that are not easy at all to find (ive searched pretty much the whole internet) i assume that a lot of the content you are giving out is worth a lot! ive had vocal programs and they don't even mention such important topics and tips, if you ever come out with one, i for sure will buy it! one of the most helpful youtuber teachers there is, and well, overall!.

+Misael V. Thanks so much! I try to bring unique, fresh information because, well, what's the point in repeating the same thing everyone else is saying? It adds nothing new. We don't need another 50 videos saying, "Oh, just make sure you keep your throat relaxed." I AM actually working on a program, although it's taking me some time to put together. In the meantime, if you ARE looking for a good program, I would recommend Phil Moufaregge's The Pro Singer's Vault. I am actually a part of the FB group and respond to some of the questions people have, so it would be kind of being in a program with me. Plus, Phil is good anyways. We share very similar views on most of this. :) You can find his program here: www.grow-the-voice.com/best-online-singing-course.html?nab=0&nabe=6739790155218944:1

Marnell Sample i totally know of phil!! awesome coach too! ive seen you 2 work together in some videos, both awesome coaches, i totally have phil on my list, i never want to stop learning so ill always have it on my list, besides, i have only like 3-4 left in my list of info to buy, used to have like 15. Totally agree that your information is unique, like i said ive had many systems, most of the mainstream ones, and you say things that have been mentioned in non, which is why i said what i said, awesome job you and phil do, you are indeed unique and separate yourself from the usual youtube coach that indeed just repeats things. I also like that you don't seem to stick to a "structure" as in SLS, and such.
@VocalLiberation
@VocalLiberation 8 лет назад
Misael V. Thanks a lot! Phil is definitely awesome. We're working on doing some more videos together. And you're right, we don't stick to any one dogma -- we just use what we know that actually works and cater it to the person in front of us. :-) Which are some of the other programs you intend to get?
@CrimsonHeart3
@CrimsonHeart3 8 лет назад
Marnell Sample intend to get ken tamplin, but have heard phil has worked with his program so i was guessing he will use some of his stuff, so i would get sort of a 2 on 1, hopefully that would be the case. Intended to try jamie vendera content, but i think his sort of montly subscription program expired, will have to check on that. Always wanted to try robert lunte, but have always been kind of not top priority, mostly because i already have enough info as it is to diggest and teach to my voice and body, and it can be tough schedule wise to fit it all in as it is. Ive seen his program can get really anatomical and such, which i don't intend to want, don't want to overcomplicate things, i mean some day for sure, but the way it seems, its that way, and i rather stick to stuff that just clicks easily instead of having to read a bunch of stuff on it, even though am not agaisn't it, i will for sure some day, but that kind of throws me off right now. Some other sources that i don't remember right now. I once had an argument with kevin richards, but it was more regarding the way he seemed personally and me not agreeing with some certain topics, but thats all, ill maybe try out his program too someday. I just study as much as i can from everywhere, and use the best i can find from each program, every program ive bought has had certain exercises that are unique to them that are not on the other ones, and thats usually what i look for, so i can ultimately make my own sort of personal vocal regimen, that can be the most effective for me personally, or in general, my own sort of vocal tool kit. So yea thats basically it, hopefully i can learn more gems from you, already use some of your stuff on my daily routine, even though i can be horrible at training consistenly due to busy schedule, which hinders my development a lot, 2 years and still have trouble with that, have to work at it.
@VocalLiberation
@VocalLiberation 8 лет назад
Misael V. Phil was influenced by Ken Tamplin, so you will see some of that in the program, but also a lot of things which are unique to Phil due to his varied background. You definitely don't need complex anatomical explanations. That's only necessary if you want to become a voice scientist. Simple, practical information is what will help you the most. One thing I will mention, though. Unique exercises aren't necessarily needed to improve the voice. You can use the most basic exercises and improve tons. But HOW you do the exercises is what matters. That's what Phil and I take great lengths to focus on.
