Have you heard of "L'Art de Vivre"? It's French for "the art of living well."

I was in Aix three weeks ago. It is the most gorgeous town. We saw two traditional weddings, so there was a happiness and good spirit all around. The public squares and fountains are perfect for socializing. I was really struck by how happy and social the French are. Mothers were out and about with their babies, school groups were at the parks, the elderly were out walking and shopping. It makes me sad to think of how few Americans, especially children, teens, and the elderly, go outside and talk to each other.

Thanks so much - I'm grateful to know you enjoyed the video and thanks for the compliment on my French (I still have plenty to improve on!) I mentioned briefly in a previous video about "Art, Culture and Beauty in France" (not sure if you've had a chance to watch that one?) that I learned some foundations in school, then worked a few months as an au pair in France when I was about 20 years old! Being immersed in the language like that was a way to pick it up really quickly. Back in Australia, as you'd know, there isn't much opportunity to speak, so I was so glad to get back to France after SO many years to be able to speak the language again, even if I was a bit rusty at first!

I went to Jackson, Mississippi for a holiday in 2022 (yes, I know it sounds strange) and I was struck by the fact that, for food, there's no escaping the agri-food industry. Fast food chains are just about everywhere and in supermarkets, everything is ultra processed. There are no independent shops, everything is owned by bug corporations. The people were nice and friendly though and the pace was slow but this life where you need a car for everything and there are no public services is very depressing.

I'm in my last ' healthy'(?) decade. I resign in few years. Dying , in these circumstances, is wellcome.

Hi, moderation comes from the limits to working hours and other rights the French fought for in the last 150 years. When you have to work 12 hours a day and never have enough paid vacations/holydays, like in the US (the UK or Australia are probably better than the US with this, at least I hope), then the limited time you have to enjoy life and use your money is just all binged away because you have not enough time to spend outside of work. So please, rest of the world, strike all the time and stop believing billionaires and big corporations have a good soul. They own medias partly to make you believe that the world will collapse if you were given more money, benefits or vacations. If you don't like this msg it's not my fault, I was possessed by the spirit of Karl Marx for a few seconds. I will balance it by writing a msg to support Elon Musk on X and buy 3 iphones to support Tim Cook.

I grew to reall dislike market, except the christmas one. You feel presured to buy if you watch a stall for more than 10 seconds, there's a constant flow of people, you have to watch your bag for pickpockets ... and the prices are often very high. I've always viewed marchés more like a tourists and elders' thing.
@KellyHine
@KellyHine 2 дня назад
Hmm yes I can see how certain kinds of markets could cause you to feel that way. Thanks for sharing a different perspective! The markets at Aix, and the lovely farmers markets I enjoy at home in Australia have not felt high pressure at all to me....I found the markets in Aix such a joyful and beautiful experience (as you can probably tell from the video!)

Just like in every country. I am making an average 1600 euros/month, and i can afford myself some hours with my friends, sinking beers on a terace and at the same time, paying my 600 euros/month rent, and all my insurances, my benzin for my bike, etc..And the french gov doesn't help me at all.. But i am living modestly, Vinted for the clothes, not a lot of meat, pastas every day... Life is more than belongings.

Aix-en-Provence is not your typical french life style. It is a wealthy and close minded community. See the man insisting that you are a mere tourist while you try to tell him otherwise. In a poll dated from around 5 years ago Aix-en-Provence was ranked the least welcoming city in France in regards to assistance to the newcomers. While i get your general ideas, I can't help but think that your points are not gournded.
@KellyHine
@KellyHine День назад
We all have our own unique perspective of things, and in the video I share my very positive experience and perspective of the few weeks I spent in this lovely place. I had so many positive interactions with locals, and my points are simply grounded in my own perspective. The conversation with the man in the video shows a small snippet of the full conversation, and we were joking around. I joked that I'm "not a tourist, I'm almost French as I've been here almost 2 weeks!" and he was joking back "no, it takes at least 2 months!" Afterwards we continued to chat as they asked me about where I was from etc. They were so helpful, funny and kind. And the guy selling the tapenade was also one of the loveliest people I met there, with such a beautiful and cheerful outlook on life, and so friendly. There were many others too. I'm also a strong believer that the "reality" we notice around us is a direct reflection of our own inner beliefs and states.
