Thanks for this, we are thinking of getting a campervan and emptying the cassette is one of the big concerns. Good tips about general hygiene too, things you perhaps wouldn't think about until after you had messed up.

We use a solution of Nappy San, Pine disinfectant and water mixed in a 5L container. This is for the flusher. Thanks for the video. Tip to the camera operator - keep the camera still and let your subject do the moving........ happy caravaning.

Maintenance tip- use a bit of quality olive oil to lubricate the cassette flap, seal and the sliding lid. Makes a world of difference in how it operates. The sliding lid stays in place when you pull out the cassette for emptying . "Try it, you'll like it!".

Very nice video! I'm a total beginner planning to rent a van for a trip and I was very curious (actually, I should say "scared" here) about the loo thing... From your detailed explanation, I think I might be able to manage it... I have to say that I still have questions if the chemicals we pour into the cassette do a good job to completely eliminate all the "odours" during this entire process... I hope so! May I add I found it important to only press the air vent button after the outlet pipe of the cassette was in the dump hole ..If one has a full cassette leakage can exit from the air vent if opened prior to the cassette being in the vertical position.. Would also recommend that the cap be replaced for the rinse procedure as it prevent any adverse spillage issues prior to emptying .. We also found it better to NOT put paper waste to the cassette as it interfered with the tank vent and allowed leakage (not so good)when driving with contents in the cassette shaking around.. ..We dispose of waste paper bagged and disposed via regular methods or burn in a camp fire if we happen to have one when free camping...

Thank you that was very helpful and informative, I’m just in the process of selling my home and buying a 5th wheeler caravan and staying in the local holiday park. So no traveling with the caravan anywhere it will just be stationary and with full access to the park’s facilities. The tanks and toilet cassette are my main concern lol 😂 There just myself and worry about being able to lift the tanks out and putting them back in again full. Unfortunately I have back injuries and medical conditions that have forced this move but I’m hoping someone can help me or I will even pay for someone . It certainly wouldn’t be a regular thing as I do have full access to restrooms etc. just mainly at nighttime especially during winter months. It’s take 3 months or so to build the caravan over in the states then is transported over to where I live. Then the company here will finish things off and tow it to the park where I live. I really looking forward to it and nervous in Beginning a new chapter in my journey of life. So in the mean time I’m doing as much research as I can. After the house is sold I will move to the park and stay in one of the cabins there until my caravan arrives. This will give me the opportunity to get used to the park and it’s facilities and also get to know other residents. Videos like these are vital especially to absolute beginners like myself ! 😊🙏🌸 NZ

Sir, how did you do that? With my OCD I don't think I can ever do this. You are brave. You didn't have any gloves on and you actually touched the lid to open that vent, you also was wearing sandals so when you sprayed the area with water probably got some of other people's stuff on your feet or legs. Wow, I wish I can do it but I am just too afraid to do so.

I wish I watched this first, iv just emptied ours via the hole in the middle, it went everywhere and the smell! Since my 4 year old won’t tell me when he needs a poo 😭 I thought that top bit was to put the toilet fluid in, where do I put that?

I'm like what you have as a toilet. I used to have a porta potty in my house in the woods and I emptied it all the time because I didn't want to use the outhouse. But there are some real wusses on here. They should know to have a window open when they empty what they call cassette toilets? I called in porta potties. I never had a problem with the smell because I'm not a wuss. LOL all they needed to do was open the top outside and let the smell go away a little bit before they brought it in. I still don't know anything about composting toilets and I've looked at three videos now.

Ah! The walk of shame. The only thing I dislike about my caravan. I prefer our system of disposal though, most sites have a separate cubicle with a toilet especially for emptying the cassette.

Yours is a casette toilet. I've got a porta loo, a portable toilet. Do you see this kind of dump point often? I mean, that it's not the blue one. There's no way I would be able to empty the bottom tank into that pipe without a mess!

lol And thats why cassette toilets are not big sellers in the U.S all the added expense to put a toilet in just to use it as a piss jug. Every one I've talked to say the same thing we only piss in it lol if im already stopping to shit or digging a hole why wouldn't i piss when im there what's the point of a onboard toilet? Now all it does is use up your fresh water.

There are biological fluids for use in both the flushing tank as well as the waste tank. I use Solbio or Elsan but there are others. These will not harm the environment and can be emptied into ordinary toilets. Don't use the blue stuff, it's horrible for natural processes and the environment!
