I think what confuses many people about 2FA is that it is assumes your authenticating device has not been stolen. With the exception of systems that don't display the 2FA code on the device you're using to access the website, 2FA isn't intended to protect a user from the scenario. Other things do, like strong device passwords. Unless I'm wrong here... Although I am a fairly sophisticated user when it comes to computers, cryptography has always confused the hell out of me. I can follow instructions telling what to do but it frustrates me that I don't always have a great understanding of how things work.

regardless of which app, is it possible to reverse engineer authenticator apps? Let's say someone has either physical access or remote access (via malware) on your phone and they got passed all the lock screens. So now they have the 6 digit authenticator codes, can they reverse engineer the app to get your password to your accounts/emails?

Great video but I used Authy is the past and deleted it. Authy on mobile and Authy on Desktop are not always synced and they show different codes. Also, the logos of the 2FA company ( Amazon for example) shows up on mobile but doesn't always show on your desktop which causes a problem and finally Authy asks for your cell number which i don't like. I contacted customer service and they admitted that the desktop app does not always sync properly and logos is a problem as well..... it was frustrating so i said bye to authy .

Hey Ryan! Very good to hear from you. What 2FA app did you switch to? How are you finding it - happy you switched? I have an iPhone and was thinking about giving Tofu a go (just because it's open source) but getting my codes out of Authy and into Tofu looks tricky.
