I am not Christian but I really admire your relationship with the Lord. It’s very bold and brave if you to post this video in a world where believers are often criticized. You’re amazing maya 😘😘😭

The questions she asks herself when reading: 1. Who wrote the book? 2. Who was the audience? 3. Why did they write the book? 4. What was going on during the writing of the book, and how does it relate now? More questions for after: 1. What does this say about God? 2. What does this say about God's people? 3. What does this say about our relationship with God? 4. What do i learn about my relationships with others, how do I apply this?

So refreshing to see someone of the younger generation really grasping the correct way to read the Word. My father was a pastor/theologian and it always drove him nuts when someone would take some scripture and use it for themselves in a way it wasn't meant to be used. Now a days it’s definitely a lot harder being a christian teen, especially in my school. I get criticized for my belief a lot where I live, and sometimes it makes me forget what I stand for. Finding your channel has definitely been a reality check for me to keep going, believe in my faithful, and read the bible😊

I watched this video because I really wanted to gain a different perspective on how religion, Christianity in particular helps people to understand the world around them and live their best life. I just recently found your channel and I love this video! Thank you for standing strong in what you believe and helping others find out how to learn more about Jesus!

I was meant to do some bible studying and got distracted by RU-vid... but then this video popped up, ended up following along in my own bible. And now I feel motivated to go study... throughout this week I'm reading 1 Corinthians 4-6 and then reading chapter 60 of a book called Jesus the way. It's a great book as it makes you dig deeper into the scriptures to really get the most out of it. I loved the questions you ask yourself. I've took note of them to try during my study now.

I have a bible that has a study guideline in the back, and that helps to keep me on track. Each night I read one chapter. I feel that I should take time, (no matter how short or long) for God. It’s easy for us to ask God for blessings, and for him to do something in our lives, but a lot of us don’t call out to him unless we need something. I did this for many years, and fell far from the path I should have been on, and because he still loved me and accepted me back, its important for me to not only be appreciative by reading the word, but I read as a reminder that his love and salvation is not worth the sins of this world. You’re the best, girly! I don’t know you from a hole in the ground but I’m rooting for you. ♥️

One thing that helps me read the Bible is to stop thinking about it as a history textbook and more like and book about past and present I GET to read. I also find it REALLY helpful to watch the Bible project videoS over the book I’m about to read. They give a really great overview for all the book so you won’t be as lost while you’re reading.

I really like the reasoning you gave for reading the bible as a spiritual discipline. You are 'so right' about reading the new testament (gospels) first as a way to create that spiritual discipline before you start tackling the old testament. I'd recommend The Bible Project (RU-vid channel) to help with making the old testament more enjoyable. But once you start understanding the old testament, what you read again in the New Testament is going to just 'pop' with new insights ☺️

hi Maya, I watched this video a few weeks ago and just wanted to say thank you for making this! Your suggested study questions before and after reading the Bible have really helped me get deeper into scripture and apply something written thousands of years ago to life as we know it today! So good. I'm currently reading from Deuteronomy--I've read quotes here and there but have never read the full book straight-through. I'm learning so much and it's truly impacting my time with God. One of my favourite books to help me know about the author, audience and context is "How to Read the Bible Book by Book: A Guided Tour" by Gordon Fee and Douglas Stuart. The authors give so much more information than my study Bible does and it makes such a difference to how you understand what was being written. This book was one of my texts for my "Foundations of Christian Education" unit that I was required to complete for work, and I'm seriously considering buying it for myself.
