Totally agree! Books are an escape to fantastical worlds for me so creating my own worlds filled with all the things that make me excited to read is so rewarding. It’s good to remind yourself of why you started when you are deep in the trenches of drafting/editing sometimes feeling like their is no end in site. Brandon Sanderson spoke about this during some writing courses & asked the class if they would still want or need to write their book if they knew that no one else would ever read it. He positioned that if you can answer yes then you are on the right track- the desire to write the book should out way the desire to get published & earn fame because 9xs out of 10 most won’t reach the level of success they hope for & the journey is what counts.

I've lapped up a good number of your RU-vid videos now and I'd like to share with you that as a writer who hasn't seen his books published yet, I find your 'tutorials' encouraging and educational. You really hit the nail on the head with this video because like you and the other comments already made here, I love writing and escaping to another world of my own creation. I'd like to take the time here to thank you for the best piece of advice you've given me across your videos as a whole. In essence you have said don't rush. Enjoy the craft. Right now I've come up with a new way of looking at an an already written novel. The temptation has been to introduce the new idea and do some cut and pasting. But I won't rush. I'll take my time. I'll desist from being invited (by email) to enter the Bath award competition which closes soon. The revised book will take as long as it takes. My only concern is that I have previously sent an earlier version of this book to every agent already (without success). If you only get one chance with an agent... How likely is it that they'll think "he's sending it again. He's a serial submitter." You see, Will, that would be a tragedy because the revised book is not a rewrite - it is a better much adjusted story over a previous framework.

Don’t worry! Agents are so busy (they read so much and they often receive rewrites). If they like the cover letter and dive into the book and enjoy your writing they’ll read on. Best of luck!

This makes SO much sense. I'm going to try to retrain my brain. I mean, we all started out writing because writing was the fun part! Then we got distracted.

Love the video - great advice and insight. Definitely could do without the stock footage cutaways though!

Reading your book Bad apples as I just picked it up without reading the others in the series. Brilliant work mate. Do you write with plot or subconsiously?
