it doesnt matter how professional it looks,as long as your happy with it and as far as i can see the weathering looks spot on.

@D335Media The varnish will stick and dry to the chassis very nicely. I spray a light coat over the entire wagon/engine.

i have used lithium from old batteries and ground it up into a fin powder and brushed it on some locos so it looks grimmy and it works quite well

You can use the powders to build up a nice rust effect in places. Just make sure you seal it in with some matt varnish to protect it.

@SteffanLlwyd Bachmann coaches come with a plastic clip which can be used instead of the normal coupling to hold the coaches much closer together.

@mushyyy98 I have a heater. When the temperature is -4 it take ages for the room to warm up. As it's only like this for about 2 months per year I take a break from the railway and focus on something else.

@houndog1372 For engines I use the method I showed in the vid, plus paint and brushes. This works well if you are careful and use a little bit at a time. If your 66s are going to be your first attempt I would strongly advise that you practise your technique on some wagons. Once you are getting results you want, move onto the 66s. I have had those powders for a long time and unfortunately can't remember where I got them from. There are several companies out there that make them.

I definitely prefer the effect of the powders and washes over the look of just airbrushing.

That Humbrol varnish, can you spray it on the chassis of locos properly, without doing damage to your loco. Thinking of weatherin g my 03 shunter using similar methods.

I spray the matt varnish with my airbrush. You can brush it on but you risk rubbing off the weathering.

@D335Media I've had those powders years. I found them in a model that has long since closed. I would expect you could find similar products in various shops and on the internet. My powders are made by a company called Mig, if that helps.

@bloodmarine77 The professional weathering really does look good, I have been very tempted in the past. I'm working on improving my technique, so my stock might look as good as pro weathering one day.

@SteffanLlwyd For mk1 and mk2 coaches, bachmann offer the best. Older coaches like teaks and pullmans are best done by hornby. Thanks

@gtacrusher123 Be very careful with old batteries. Lithium is corrosive and requires special handling to avoid skin contact. Breathing lithium dust or lithium compounds irritate the nose and throat, while higher exposure can cause a buildup of fluid in the lungs, leading to pulmonary edema.

Nice video! I was planning on using these powders to start off some weathering on my wagons, but I was just wondering what colours you used in this video? You mentioned the Vietnam Earth and Light/Standard Rust colour, but I have been unable to find "Black Ash" colour, and all of the greys that I have seen from Mig were slightly off from there grey in the video. Cheers :)

The powders I used in this video were purchased about 8 years ago from a model shop that no longer exists. There are quite a few different types of powders around, so you might have to mix and match different shades to get the right colour.
