well I think the zipties that police uses are much bigger and wider and are more sturdy than the ones you buy at home depot... also you would receive a bullet straight in your head if an officer sees you trying this thing
The key is to force tour elbows together in front of your body. This allows the ties to break much easier due to the added leverage your body-wedge causes.

I worked at IKEA for a while and practiced snapping zip ties while being tied. Tighten it till it's tight enough for your hands to be together, then bring your arms out with all your might. It's all about forearm strength.

Turns out you can just pull your arms apart and properly engage the chest muscles and it'll snap without having to hit yourself. Breaking zip ties is easy because they go around both wrists at once and you have the end of the forearm bones to push against the plastic with. A thin piece of chord that might be technically weaker could be harder to break in practice if it has one loop for each wrist, because when you pull it will cut into the softer front of the wrist/lower arm as it tightens.
That is awesome information! Thank you. And for those who mention about tying arms behind the back. There are individuals that can slip their arms through under their legs . Once they do that , then they can use this technique to break the zip ties. Problem solved.
thats why cops use 2 thicker ties looped together (one tie for each hand) and behind the back. some of the flex-cuffs even have a stainless cable imbedded. Good luck with those !

wrigle your tied arms over your arse ,it hurts a bit but you will get there eventually,at which point you will automatically fall on your arse ,now manouver each leg/foot one at a time of course,through your arms (you have to have a bit of fitness ,over weight would be a problem) then proceed as shown here,try it yourself ,not by tying your wrist(you have to have a true friend do that ) and not by holding your hands together (this gives too much movement )you should take your right hand and grab hold of your left wrist as tight as possible behind your back/or visa vers of course (this makes it pretty realistic)then give it a go,you'll get it after practice,at first you'll think this is just impossible but keep at it for half an hour. You can actually start by sitting down before you pull your arse through your arms to save the falling backwards but I found that harder to do,we learned all this in millitary training way back in the early 90's so no I'm not a bondage freak LOL
***** As I said, you can't. You think you do because you shake your hands, but you are not zipped at the hands, you are zipped at the wrists. A few people may be able to do it, but it's still a minority.

Check with law enforcement experts as to the reenforced ties they use and the way they are double-applied. A cop that applies zips or handcuffs to a prisoner in front of his body is giving him a weapon.
Ok, what you do is lay the person face down on the floor, bring their hands behind their back and put TWO zip ties around their wrists (thick,strong zip ties, not so tight, just tight enough). Then as they are laying flat out on their stomach you put TWO zip ties around their ankles to hold their feet together, now bend the knees back so that their feet come up towards their backside where their hands are already tied, (this is quite comfortable at first). Now get another zip tie, (or two) and place it through the zip ties on their hands and connect it to the zip ties on their feet, now shut the zip tie so that the person cannot bring their legs back to the straight position.. Their hands and feet are now tied firmly behind their back in this awkward position that the body and brain are not used to. The body's natural reaction is to straighten out the limbs but it can't, so in a surprisingly short space of time the person is usually ready to tell you whatever it is you need to know..... 95% success rate... All you gotta do is sit there and flick peanuts at them.
