I'm glad that you used Pyrex in your demonstration. I was afraid it wouldn't work for my project, because the bottle clearly states that "Will not etch some Pyrex." Whew! What a relief!
When you wash dishes that have the Speedball paint on them, does it slowly fade over time and just go back to looking how it did when it was only the etching cream? Or do they stay that bright white even after washing with soap? Great video!! Thank you!
hey there, love your channel, newly subscribed! is speedball paint the only brand recommended for adding color to armour etch, or can any fabric paint and color work just as fine?
really nice crystal saw my friend did some today, now that i saw your video i will tell him about the paint that made it look even better, thank you for your video
Well done! Thanx for the info. Well worth watching. Starting on some glass etching projects (multiple w/ same design). You make it look as easy as I was hoping. Had done some glass etch years ago by screen printing, but will be doing vinyl cut stencils. Will be doing back lit with LEDs . Very informative and nicely done. You should do more videos. You have the knack :)
Thanks for the informative video. I was wondering why not use rub and buff instead ? since it doesn't get washed away ? I am planning on doing an etching project and looking to add some color to it. I am researching videos that can give me some ideas on adding permanent color.
Answered my own question: yes, the Speedball paint washes right off, lol. Doesn't keep it looking bright white. Any suggestions to get it to stay on there if you wanna wash the dish it's on?
Just wondering on the speedball paint ink, how long does it need to cure before washing the item? Or should this be baked in the oven to get the paint to set into the etching and not wash off?
If there are different color options for the speedball paint, do you think they will show up that color or should I just stick to white. Also, is that just for decor or can it be used to cook with without harm to anyone? I really like how your turned out and am thinking to do one for myself.
Yes there is other colors and It will work just the same.. I suggest only using it for decor Items that wont be washed I baked mine in the oven for about 2.5 hours no issues until I washed it. It washed right off :( but there is supposed to be speedball paint that does not have oil in it and thats the one we need and I can't find it anywhere hope this helps
Hello! Love the video, I'm trying to replicate but when I put on the paint it doesn't stay. You just applied and wiped it off right? I got the one you had in the video but when I wipe it off it didnt do anything. Thank you for any help :)
Thank you so much Im so happy to hear this :) yes I have done a video on the paper flowers here is the link ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-I-vstm_oiT4.html
I've never etched but I want to try this. Now how does the speedball white fabric paint hold up in the oven with the heat and washing it as well? Thank you for the tutorial it came out really nice.
Thank you for your video. I tried etching on a glass block, but it just didn't seem to pop like I wanted. I saw your info at the end about the "ink" and that did the trick! It came out perfect. One question - can you use another color of the ink on the etching and how will that show up - you mention below you used the incorrect ink. If using it for something like you did, what ink would be the correct item to use. Thank you
debrajames57 you can use any color :) and this is perfect for something your not going to wash because it came off some commented below the correct stuff let me look at it and I’ll reply here :)
@@YouCanTotallyMakeThat did you ever find the name of the correct product to use so you can wash it and the paint stays on? I tried the water-based SpeedBall and that washed off too
just curious why you don't use a stick to apply the cream? That way you can gently scrape the excess BACK into the container. waste not want not. good video thank you
Is it really as easy as it looks?? I have an etched glass frame that holds a picture of my father from around the 1940's and as long as I can remember, and I'm 67, it has had a large broken piece off of a corner. The glass is quite thick and if it is as easy as THIS looks, I might give it a try.
Did you put the stencil on the bottom of the pan or in the inside on the middle? Also, do these dishes still work in the oven after they have been washed?
Hi Crystal, Got a question for you. Was interested in the Speedball block white paint that you used at the end of this etched bake ware project. Is that upper rack dishwasher safe, will it come off?
It will come off I discovered that I used the wrong paint I need one that is not oil based. I baked with this dish at about 400 for 2hours and as soon as I washed it came off hope this helps
Do you get a faint line where the vinyl edges was applied? I keep getting a faint line but no etching cream spreads to that area? What am I doing wrong?
just a plain dry paper towel but I do not recommend using the paint on an item you will wash as I have learned it will wash off even after baking it :(
The only way how without a die cut machine would be free hand cutting stencil material you could always print out your design and trace it on the stencil material or if you have somewhere locally that cuts out vinyl it usual only cost less than $5 to get a custom stencil if that makes since hope this helps. another idea would be using press n seal to cut out your stencil and adhering it to your glass
CrystalAnn thank you so much for quick respond . I really appreciate it I will definitely try and let you know . Keep up the good work and thanks for sharing 🙂🌹❤️
I know I already spoke with you through email but I'm going to leave a comment here for others the speedball paint did not hold up I would only suggest on something no being washed I do believe I got the wrong one that was oil based. Thanks so much for the question :)
Have you found one that seems to work? I tried the speedball brand and itde just washed right off. I made a cutting board and would like it to stand out and stay if they use it and wash it when they're done with it.
I have some that is in the same bottle but it does not work at all. I left it on the glass for 35 minutes because the recommended time did not work. It also does not smell like anything. I wonder if I have a dead bottle. It was expensive from Michael's. Nothing is etched.
when I clicked on your video it shows DecoArt, 2 oz Easy Etch White/Frost $16.98 at Home Depot. Very Expensive. I don't know if you have heard anything about it and if it would be where you wouldn't have to put the paint. didn't know if you knew anything about it or heard anything about it
I liked your video. However, having done presentations before, you need to assume that your AUDIENCE HAS NO KNOWLEDGE OF WHAT YOUR DOING. You need to get really basic about the products you use and why your using them.Pretend your teaching a group of 8 year olds and you will have it covered. Otherwise, thank you for a great video.
For what it's worth if you consult with Armour they specifically and emphatically state not to use their product on Pyrex... as it is you can be held liable for anyone hurt or any damage that results from this video... just saying...
Superb Media Content Creator I have and they do not say not to use Pyrex what they say is this Armour Etch will not work on SOME Pyrex items. Some Pyrex (ovenware) is manufactured by a heat process that fortifies the glass for use in your oven. This process can be decorated with etchants. Another process to create ovenware is to bond a plastic coating to the outside of the glass object to also fortify the glass item. This process will NOT allow the etchants to work as the etchants are not strong enough to break through the plastic coating. The only way to tell the difference between the two manufacturing process is to place a tiny dot of the etchant in a place on your overware where the dot, if it should etch, will not be an issue for you. Let the dot stay on for one minute, wash it off and dry the area completely before you determine whether or not you have a success.
This is a good video but you shouldn’t use plastisol ink on anything you are going to bake with. The ink contains plastic and creates harmful fumes when heated to high temperatures that can contaminate your food. I screen print T-shirts and just wanted to bring it up for your safety. I could be completely wrong but you should research it to know for yourself.
Please stop washing that down the sink. I get it, its convenient. But if you dont want to touch it with your bare skin. I would prefer not to consume it in my drinking water. A wash tub that collects the waste water would be an economical solution to save the environment.
a very long time a little goes a long way and you can actually scrap off the excess before you wash it off and put it back in the bottle. you can make a ton of projects with one bottle :)
