Export an ArcMap Shapefile using DNR free software and upload it into your Garmin GPS unit.

Great Video! still relevant today in 2022. Do you think it is possible to edit the shape that will represent the points.

TL;DW This tutorial requires software from this website: www.dnr.state.mn.us/mis/gis/DNRGPS/DNRGPS.html Have your shapefiles in ArcMap and a Garmin, hook everything up and turn it all on. Duh. 1. Open ArcMap. 2. Make folder for the GPS points you're locating with Garmin. He called his GPS Locate. The folder should be local - not on your Garmin. 3. Right click on layer you want to transfer, click data, then export data. 4. Specify the Output folder as the folder you made in step 2. Click OK. Now you have the shapefiles in your GPS Locate folder. Done with ArcMap. 5. Open DNR Software. 6. File --> Load from file. Find your GPS Locate folder and make sure you have ArcView format selected so you can see your file. Open the file. 7. He used sequential ID. And Object ID. Mine was Transect_Name. I think it's just the columns from your attribute table. 8. You should be notified that file was loaded successfully and see your data in the table. 9. In the toolbar, make sure GPS --> Set Port (USB). 10. From toolbar, Waypoint (or track, or whatever shapefile you're trying to move) --> Upload. Should hear a beep and get a success notification. 11. Bam. Done.

It didn't work for me, and it was PAINFUL to listen to 12 minutes of something that could have been said in 3.
