Hey at the end of the video you mention that you don't know how to export the mesh, the textures, and everything you need for this object. This is remedied by using the built in .GLTF exporter. If you export a static mesh that has a material and textures, it will export everything. To use the .gltf exporter in Unreal, follow the same steps, but when you are going to save the file, hit the drop down to switch from .fbx to .gltf

Often you have to make sure you haven't select any other files and that your exporting the texture (usually a red bar underneath the thumbnail) and not the material

I have a mesh (eg a car) with a material applied on it. The material is made up of 3 textures. How to transfer this mesh as it is (with the material) from one pc to another. So basically how to export the mesh in a way that it retains its material so that when I transfer this exported file into my another PC and import in UE then I get the exact same car? Pls guide!

So if you are just moving it from PC to PC and using UE then it is very easy. Basically, just copy and paste the Project folder (You would have named it when you started the project) from PC A to PC B. For more clarity, when you start a project, you enter a name for the project and save it in a folder of your choice. For more clarity, so when you start a project, you basically would name your project & save it in the Unreal Projects folder. Most likely, Documents>Unreal Projects>(Your Project). You can also try this to move it from PC to PC.

@@floyd1411 Thanks for such a detailed reply, will try to do this when using PC to PC and update you if it works ☺👍 but can you also guide that how to obtain the desired result when doing this in the same PC, i.e. I want to export the mesh (a car) along with the material to a new project on same PC, so that it looks exactly the same as it was in my previous project.
@floyd1411
@floyd1411 Год назад
@@navneet2649 So short answer is download the Gltf exporter plugin from market place and export your scene as a GLB file. your model will not look the same caz of the lighting. but it will definately open the mesh and the materials. The somewhat difficult but the proper way is as an FBX file caz then you get more control of the texture maps. The below video is of UE4 but it is pretty comprehensive of how its done. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-iDz7X2RZDvM.html

@floyd1411
@floyd1411 Год назад
@@navneet2649 yes there is an easy way. You can create a new project, save it, close it and open the project with the car. The locate the mesh which can be done by seeing it on the right side and to locate it click the icon that looks like a folder with an eye glass. Right click on the asset and click migrate. Chose the destination folder to be the content folder of the new project. Also tons of videos on RU-vid how to migrate assets and lot will be how to migrate the entire map but It's the same for just one single asset. Also, I've just been learning UE and Blender for less than 2 months now, so may not know the best approach but i m definitely Sharing what i know. :)

Originally there wasn’t a way to to export meshes and textures together which is why it had to be done this way. It does what it says in the title… exports to fbx and exports textures. Take into mind that you stumbled on this video a year or so after it was published so may want to take some of these things in mind before leaving silly comments 😂 You could have just asked if there’s another way to do it and I’d have been happy to tell you

@@joedickenson3d When we import the FBX into another 3D software, it does not have the textures linked to it. There is the 'materials' but not the textures files. We have to re-do the whole process manually. So yes, useless video since it doesn't work.

@@MM-hl1to like I've said to someone who left a similar comment, this video is nearly 2 years old now, initially this was the only way to do it. Also assume you didn't look at the end of the video that exports the textures too but at the time you have to export separately and then link up textures in your set modelling program Like I said if you simply asked if theres a better way to do it I'd have told you to use glTF which now exports out everything
