Great tip Col. There are some really handy tools in the Print Production tab. The Output Preview is really helpful for checking the CMYK values look about right.

Yes, it should be pretty much the same. Check in Photoshop/InDesign that your swatch is a Pantone Spot. Export your file to PDF and use the Ink Manager to check that your Pantone Spot colours have carried over.

You can't mix Pantone colours yourself. Many of the colours fall outside of the CMYK colour range. You can maybe get something close. If you look at the Pantone Colour Bridge guide you will get a CMYK approximation of the Pantone Spot colour :)

My document has 3 Spot Colors, but when I save as PDF it's only showing 2.

When I open my pdf in Acrobat Pro, then output preview and hide the process plates it shows sth that cannot be printed. If I try to do the same thing in Photoshop everything is OK...strange...

That is strange. I'm sure everything is still okay with the PDF file though. And if there was an issue, your printer would help you to resolve any issues :)

I don't really work with icons much Dan. I have heard people say good things about The Noun Project. They have a free level of subscription. thenounproject.com/

@@RockYourBrand Thanks for that one. It is for websites. It's easier to read icons for "vitals" like address, postcode, opening hours, phone, email, website, etc. Transparent svg filed are very versatile - easy to recolor and blend into any background.

And what about converting to fogra39? No problems at all?

Just make sure that you save the Fogra39 colour profile with the PDF. You can do that in the PDF export settings.

What is your output settings on your illustrator? Color Conversions, Destinationat, etc?

I am presuming you mean my PDF output/export settings GENERAL TAB Adobe PDF Preset: PDF/X-1a:2001 Standard: PDF/X-1a:20012 Compatibility: Acrobat 4 (PDF 1.3) OUTPUT TAB Colour Conversion: Convert to Destination (Preserve Numbers) Destination: Document CMYK - Coated FOGRA39 Output Intent Profile Name: Coated FOGRA39 MARKS & BLEEDS I will set dependent on the requirements of the person/company I am sending the files to. Everything else is default settings for the PDF preset I've chosen.
