I do something similar using a 110 punch down block to build a homemade passive IR hub. I run a spliced CAT5e cable to a Harmony Hub and have the end of the cable terminated to a 110 block. The block outputs IR signal to 3 CAT cables in different rooms. The CAT cables are then spliced with Dolphin clips to an IR sensor. Great video!

Nice, I’ve got 3 hubs for different rooms in a centrally located rack with irs spliced and going to corresponding devices in the rack and throughout the house via cat 5 or 22-4. Works like a charm with projector, tvs, Apple TV’s, hdmi switch, receiver. Works well with Lutron among many other devices. It is a shame Logitech is discontinuing these now.

Since Harmony is no longer being manufactured, what are you using to replace them now?

WOW NEAT TRICK!!! I'm so scared to do that. I recently had to rerun cat 6 cables from a central location to projector which is probably about 25-30 Ft. 10 foot of is because of going up to ceiling. I had this bring idea I was going to install an outlet with ethernet jack port. I'm also running a balut with 4 hdmi extenders. Doing that wouldn't power up my extender on the receiving side. I was just trying to make things look cleaner but realize a central unit is there for a reason. As much as i want to do this, I don't want to use my connection on the extenders because it does rely heavily on cat 6 connection.

Hello and thank you for all these videos that make us kiffé. Small question, would you have an internet link for your power line tester? It's great to look for cables on an electrical panel in France !!!!! Looking forward to your return.

Hi, my friend has a blue stream device that sends the IR signal and HDMI over Ethernet for foxtel. The problem is the IR receiver cable on the other end is too short as the TV is mounted 3-4 M away. If I buy a 10 M IR extender cable will it still work or will the IR receiver fail to work as the distance is too long? Hopefully you can help.

Always heard cat cable could be used for other things but never seen anyone do it. Thanks! What other connections could your extend by doing this?

Freakin Genius! At the end it looks like the wire behind the the projector has 2 RJ45 Male connectors...It's just 1 Rj45 connector to each end of the sensor wire that you cut in half correct?

Do all the ir heads send the same command ? or can you program each head to send discreet commands like the 2400 has 6 discreet outputs ?

Yeah,if you have a home theater system and you dont have a harmony hub and remote you just dont know what your missing!! It makes everything so much easier. You can literally control lights ,components,avrs,projectors you name it. If it has the ability to be controlled by a remote you can control it with a harmony remote. I will tell you there is nothing more annoying than having to point your projector remote backwards to control it! With a harmony remote you can literally program it to turn everything on ,lower lights ,close drapes etc all with the push of a single button! I can even control my air conditioner thermostat with mine. The only thing I have found it cant do is bring me a cold beer from the fridge to my couch! Lol! Seriously though if you dont have one ,get one! You won't regret it!

What if you are using the cat 5/6 cable to connect to the network? Do you run a second cat 5/6 cable?
@alexdunnyoutubechannelADYC9654
@alexdunnyoutubechannelADYC9654 3 года назад
You can use the same cat 5. Networks devices use orange and green pairs to communicate, brown for poe (power), they don't use blue. Blue pair is used for analogue or digital telephones. Strip the blue pair out and use it for IR

Why can't I independently control my Denon AV receivers. Same brand, 2 different models. When I turn one on with the harmony remote, both turns on. I have the IR sensors on both, it didn't work. I connected using Wi-Fi and verified different IP addresses and ID. Still nothing. Please help!

I had this issue with 2 Apple TV’s that use the same commands. If you are only utilizing one ir port on the hub you can simply plug an ir into the other port to the receiver and in programming have hub send signals on different blaster ports to separate them.

I hate those crimp down connectors... always have issues with them... Dolphin connectors have been much more reliable

I prefer Dolphins as well, especially when you need to crimp more wires.
