I recommend always wash your hair after sweating, no matter when was the last wash. It's the same as skipping shower after sweating because the scalp is also skin like the other parts of our skin, and it can cause problems if you leave it dirty on purpose. What is important is to choose the right, mild products for frequent washes and aftercare.

@@Plantje1999 You can try and wear your hair in a high bun like she does in her Sleep hairstyles video (only using a clawclip) whenever you exercise and go to sleep. I found it doesn't give you a headache because you don't tie it with a scrunchie, but it still stays very firm and your hair stayes fresh after a nice sweating session 🥰 That bun saved my hair and enabled me to really extend my hair washings. Hope this helps!

The "feed back theory" is something that was debunked in the 80's and had no scientific foundations : the skin is made of many layers, the top part of the skin is itself made of many layers of dead cells whose principal fonction is to block anything from penetrating the skin. The skin is a lot like your hair, the top part is "dead". The sebaceous gland that produce sebum do so under many layers of skin. The glands do not have any system to communicate with the dead top layer. Sebaceous glands respond to internal factor like genes and hormones and produce permanently sebum weather the surface is already saturated or not. In conclusion, you should adapt your hygiene choices to the nature of your skin, but you won't change the nature of the skin by your hygiene choices for the most part. In particular, if you have sensitive oily skin that is prone to dandruff it is recommended to wash frequently, as sebum sitting on the skin is a major cause of inflammation because of the microorganisms proliferation that feeds from it.
@daphne-bai
@daphne-bai 2 года назад
Agreed. I tried extending the time between washes because I’d heard the scalp would naturally balance its pH levels that way, but I could never make it past the third day without serious dandruff buildup and my scalp starting to itch from bacteria or yeast 😖 I didn’t use dry shampoo since that’s only a temporary fix that would cause more buildup from all the starch. Moral of the story: everybody’s bodies work differently and a healthy hair routine for one person doesn’t necessarily work for the next. Don’t punish yourself for the sake of the “perfect hair routine.”

Yeah, I think that tip really just applies to straight hair. I have 2b waves and I still need to apply a leave-in and gel to look decent. For what it's worth, I've been using a homemade flaxseed gel and it doesn't build up on my hair like other products I've tried. I get a medium to light hold, depending on which leave-in I use under it. Sometimes I get a really good cast, sometimes not. I'd recommend it for wavies if you haven't tried it!

@@brcsephina this is the video with the exact recipe I follow from Naptural85! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-os0gI1vx1tw.html I follow her instructions exactly and it really does come out with perfect consistency. 👌 Also, as an additional tip, keep the gel in your preferred container in the fridge to keep fresh. It will last about 3 wks in the fridge. After that point you might start noticing a funky smell and it starts going bad. I just pull it out of the fridge and bring to the bathroom on wash day. Also, the recipe makes more gel than I can use within 3 wks because my hair isn't long yet. So I separate the finished recipe into 4 smaller plastic containers. I keep 1 in the fridge and 3 in the freezer and rotate as I go through it! I hope you get good results with it!! I've really been loving it! You can always experiment with the recipe to get thinner or thicker consistency, or add essential oils, or even agave syrup to the finished product (for apparently stronger hold and other benefits). I just haven't experimented with the recipe yet because I'm getting good results with it as is. 😊 Good luck!

When I’m doing vigorous exercise often I first brush my hair through with a wooden bristle brush to help distribute the natural oils throughout, and rinse my hair with water without shampooing. That helps wash away some of the sweat and odor. If I have apple cider vinegar I’ll rinse my hair with that as well, usually I add some essential oils to the ACV rinse which also helps get rid of some odor. Super great if you don’t want to do a full wash but want to feel cleaner!

Great video! 💖 The best natural dry shampoo I found was a powder by Accure and it mainly had arrowroot powder and cocoa and was made for brown hair. I'm like you though I try not to use it much. I tried to extend to to a week and I just get too oily. I have a mild case of seborrheic dermatitis. I found relief by doing apple cider vinegar rinses and using gentle sulfate and silicone free shampoos. Been using natural hair care for about ten years and just started using Calia. Thank you for all your advice! I love Calia and I love your videos 💖💖

My hair is oily and fine (tangles easily, goes limp fast) and I live in the south. I get "second/third day hair" about 12-14 hours after I wash. I still skip shampooing on days I'm not doing anything, but if I want my hair to look nice, I have to wash. Anyone have any tips?
@thealorenz4533
@thealorenz4533 5 лет назад
My hair is not really fine, but I had the same problem as you, my hair would get soo greasy after only a few hours. What I did: I did the no poo challenge for two weeks. ( If you’re not familiar with it, it is just not washing your hair at all for a short period of time) After doing that, I could easily wash my hair every 2-3 days. I know that is not very impressive but for me it changed a lot. Now I always wash them twice a week

Have you tried a scalp only wash? If you hair is really long you can braid it and hold the braid out of the way and then just shampoo your scalp and keep the ends dry. Washes the oil of your scalp and keeps your ends from being dry and overwashed.
@marialuginsland9863
@marialuginsland9863 5 лет назад
If you deal with greasy hair for a little while your scalp starts to produce less oil, like the above comment suggests. I had the same issue, so I'd just put my hair In a bun or French braid a few days and use dry shampoo if I really needed. Now I can go SOooo much longer without washing. Brushing the hair upside down to distribute the oil from your scalp also helped and keep my hair from being dry while the roots were greasy (I used to have really dry hair from the midsection down, while the top would be greasy.)
@marialuginsland9863
@marialuginsland9863 5 лет назад
French braids will also help give your hair volume too, it did for me, my hair is fine but curly/wavy. After washing and it mostly dries, (still a little tiny bit damp) if you put it in a loose French braid, it will have more volume on top when you decide to let it down.

Speaking from experience, I totally agree with Sarah. My hair is pretty long, not as long as her, probably around my lower back. I sweat a lot, I do intense workout almost everyday, yoga on my rest day. Washing my hair once a week and it's completely fine. Yes when I exercise it's kinda wet and gross lol but then after it I just let it air dry and when dried down it's not greasy whatsoever. I also like to swap the leftover oil on my palm (after doing oil cleansing for face) into my mid to end part of hair. Keeping it soft through out the week.

I started growing out my pixie about a year ago. You may already know this, but in order to keep your 'do looking clean, make sure to cut off the "mullet" that starts to form around your neck. It's easy to do at home.

Hi! Sarah, thank you for ALL your videos, they are always honest, in energy and information. It's extra recomforting! I wanted to ask you or anyone here who has had problems with an itchy scalp.. I actually cannot pass 2 days without washing my hair, or it will start itching. I noticed that, wierdly, dust build up on my hair!! But the itchness comes mainly from the oiliness, and it started after I started trying to wash my hair 3 times per week.After some months, the itchness was unberable, and now that I wash it every 2 days it's good. I would really love to talk about this. Has anyone gone through this?

Yup that's me right now. I get oily 24 hours after a wash, and I get itchy after that 24 hours mark with dandruff. Its been a year since you made this comment; have you found a way to extend your washings? For me, I have to wash daily :(

@@mnmira001 hi! I have found that using normal, sulfate full shampoos helps - and does not make my curly hair ugly dry. other than that, brushing our hair once in a while is good too.. it seems to clean the head. but, i also wanted to ask.. was is the roblem, for you, of washing your hair daily? i ask because i actually started to like to wash it more frequently, every or everyother day. hugs :)

@ Thanks! What brand of shampoo are you using? I'd like to give it a try too! Yeah for me I wanna try to extend my washing as its not healthy for the hair to wash it everyday. Sadly my scalp gets oily and itchy and my top hair becomes flat in 12-24 hours. I am chained to washing my hair daily. If i could get a shampoo that prevents my scalp from getting oily until a few days later that would be awesome. My hair itself is manageable. Do you have dry or oily scalp? Cheers
3 года назад
@@mnmira001 hi! I have thin hair, so my scalp tends to get oily (a dry kind of oily..) faster than other girls I know. My hair gets flat quickly too! I like using pantene pro vitamins, the translucid one, once in a while, because it cleans very well. but in the day to day I am loving to use johnson & johnson shampoo, allegadly for babies but.. hehe it's translucid, made from glycerin, I love it. let me know if you find it there? xxxx

I would avoid wetting your hair everyday, even with just water. It will put extra stress on your strands from repeatedly swelling with water and your hair is most vulnerable to breakage when wet. Minimize the amount of time your hair is wet to prevent unnecessary damage.
