► Description:
we put on our protectors. The right protective gear is necessary to fall safely and prevent injuries.
And these are the protectors we should have and use. We need wrist guards, elbow pads, knee pads and of course a helmet.
Falling down safely helps us to learn inline skating more quickly, with more fun, in a better way and without being scared.

I was skating for years when I was a kid then I stopped when I graduated elementary school...... - until now. I recently bought a pair of skates and I tried to skate again after 20 years, I still know how to skate but tbh I was scared, I was scared to fall, and yeah I fell on my butt reallyyyy hard, it's been a few days and it still hurts 🤣 thanks for this video tho, I will keep skating till I gain my confidence like when I was 10

I feel you… I did just that 20min ago!! Just got my new rollerblades and they are sooo much faster than what we had as kids!!! The wheels are fast but smooth. Within 30 seconds I fell right on my ass bone… the only part of me I didn’t have pads on 🤦‍♂️ of course. I had Knee, elbow, wrist guards and helmet. I didn’t make it out of my driveway and FLOP. I haven’t rollerbladed since the mid 90’s and I played roller hockey fearlessly didn’t even own pads or helmet. Sure, I got a couple stitches and a few broken bones… but such was life back then. I’m buying a big old fanny pad tomorrow and will wear it with pride even if it looks like I have a diaper butt 😆

I was desperate because I wanted a super easy way to break if I was in a very dangerous situation (like I'm going very fast and the ground is not flat so I'm accelerating). I never thought that, if I am in danger, the safest way to stop is falling.
@skamidanen
@skamidanen 4 года назад
Well if you're able to stop quickly or avoid a crash so do it! But if there is no other way to avoid a crash or dangerous fall, than go down, deep bed your knees and try to fall and slide safely onto your pads. ✌

My first time skating before watching this video wasn’t enjoyable. I was so scared of falling I felt stressed and stiff the whole time. Then I saw this video and practiced falling for 10-15 mins before skating again. Once I got down the technique, I felt so confident and relaxed skating after and I had so much fun!!! Thanks for this :) To all the other beginners, you might feel silly or scared to do this, but it really does help make you a more fearless skater! Plus it can really save you from serious injury. Be safe & have fun :)

Would you have any advice on how to override instinct of stretching hands when falling down? I tend to fall backwards much more than I fall forwards as I'm practicing some stopping techniques. And I can't help but instinctively put my hands back. And just yesterday I injured both of them. The fall wasn't even that bad but because I put my hands I injured my wrists and fingers despite wearing protectors.
@skamidanen
@skamidanen 11 месяцев назад
Uff, I'm sorry for your injury. The best to override the instinct of stretching hands is practicing. Practice how to fall forwards as often as you can. While doing that always try to keep your arms bent, as well as keep them forward. In addition try to avoid stretching your buttocks back. Your hips should always be right above your heels. If you put your arms onto your upper leg then you won't fall backwards.

Can I make my bearing faster or should I buy a new bearing? The wheels are kinda slow even when I losen them up I have a usd sway 2 and it has a abec-5 everything is default about it so except I bought anti-rocker wheels instead of having 4 normal wheels in a frame
@skamidanen
@skamidanen 6 лет назад
Hey, antirockers are a very good choice for aggressive skating. Regarding your bearings, you can use some grease or special bearing oil and spray to make them faster. But the best option ist buying new high precision bearings like ABEC9 or ILQ9 bearings.

Just do small steps. Try to start with the smallest step that is possible, repeat that step until you become comfortable doing so and continue with the next small step. The best way to overcome your fears is to train regularly with many repetitions of every single step of a trick. In addition every allround workout will strengthen your mind. ✌

I like your videos very much and some of my strudents as well - but I have to disagree about this method of how to fall on emergencies because it is not the safest one - you can injury your shoulders by missplacing your hands on the ground, and begginers can brake their arms by not flexing enough their knees before a fall, which is really very common. I rather theach my students (Brasil) the use of the one knee fall as they do at roller derby.
@skamidanen
@skamidanen 6 лет назад
Hey :) Thank you for your comment and constructive criticism. The "knee slide" or "one knee slide" is also a very good technique to fall. So you're also right by saying it's more safe. From my experience I aggree it's more safe, but the most students of my courses have problems to fall without using their arms and hands, that I would say the knee slide is a little bit more difficult. That's the reason why at first I always show the showed technique to my students. The next one I show to my students is the knee slide and one knee slide you told us. I think about to make a part two of this video to also show the knee slide. What are your experiences with your students (beginners) using the knee slide? How do you teach them to maintain their balance while sliding only on their knees?
@NikZvi
@NikZvi 6 лет назад
nice point. One knee ground touch usually saves me from falling at all.
@rj2648
@rj2648 6 лет назад
I start my lessons from the very begging of skating, which in my opinion would be the fall - if you are wearing skates, you will eventually meet the ground. Therefore, when I teach my students how to raize up I teach them to do it by placing 95% of their wheight onto the support leg, razing the but really high and just than bring the other leg together, in a very low position. Usually it takes from 3 to 10 times to achieve the point that they do it correctly and when the rach that point, i start the other way round, to fall onto just one knee. Falling on one knee isn't easy because we are tought on really early days from our childhood that falling on your knee will lead to pain, tears and momy will come around with a very stingy medicine - so our brain says "wrong". But it is time to a new chapter, we are elder now, and we weare protections, like very good knee pads ( I usually point this out to my students, don't use crapy pads). Once they learn how to fall without using their hands, it's time to roll. And then, again I teach them how to fall onto one knee while on very little spreed. These process goes on until they reach higher speeds, when the one knee fall start to become the knee slide - when they reach this level they fell free to try whichever skills I propose them to do and the progression is amazing. Works perfectly with children, adults, elder people, urban skating, ramps - you name it. Hope this will be of some help, and yes, please proceed with your fabulouse channel - most of my students like it and are subscribers to your channel. Greetings from Brazil - RJ
@rj2648
@rj2648 6 лет назад

@skamidanen
@skamidanen 5 лет назад
First of all, tall and big people can skate for sure! 🙂 Ordinary inline skates are soft boots, they are very soft and comfy. Hockey skates are like hard boots, there you will have a much better support, especially for your ankles. But of course, hard boots like hockey skates will feel a little bit more uncomfortable, but just for the first times.

@skamidanen
@skamidanen 6 лет назад
Sadly there is no safe way to fall backwards. The only thing you can do is wearing a skate helmet and good protection. To also protect your tailbone, there are special trousers with additional pads. 🙂✌ So, always lean forwards, push your knees over your toes and you shouldn't fall backwards. ;)
@b4ptx

Nice but how do we fall for agressive or advanced inline skating? I guess it is similar to skateboard, you have to roll on the side?
@skamidanen
@skamidanen 5 лет назад
In aggressive inline you also try to keep your center of gravity near the bottom. When you fall you should try doing a somersault or a "judo roll". If it's possible it's always good to bring on of your skates under your butt. For this we plan a video for the future. But we cannot say when this video will come.
@Med-cs6ve

Falling backwards is never save, so we avoid fall to back. We have to learn how to fall forwards and how to never fall backwards. Btw. as soon as you have mastered the proper skate posture, you won't fall backwards anymore. ;)

There is no really good way to ne safe while falling backwards. So you should always conentrate on the proper body posture and foot position, so you will never fall backwards. Should you fall backwards you should try to turn your body that you're able to land on your side protectors (of you protective pants) and your other protective gear.

When falling using this technique, being we can't always control our falls, could this landing on elbows jam the shoulders? Is the point in learning this well, besides alleviating fear of falling and learning falling safety, to get so familiar with this that we actually CAN control our fall?
@skamidanen
@skamidanen 5 лет назад
Yes, this is totally right. As soon as you will overcome and lose your fear of falling you will be able to control your falls. As soon as you start to control your falls you will be able to fall softly and without any powerful impacts to you bones and joints. So, right before you will fall down you will be able to bend your knees as deep as you will fall more like "with a slide over the ground", instead of a high fall to the ground. Thererfore it's necessary to say to yourself: "Okay, I'm getting out of control, I should bend my knees a litte bit more to prepare my fall for a soft landing". 🙂👌
@aveguevara
@aveguevara 5 лет назад
@@skamidanen Thanks so much - when ice skating, we are taught to bend knees all the time, and when falling to spread out so the impact is diffused throughout the body and we slide on the ice - this is NOT the way to fall on pavement, as there's no sliding involved - is this correct too?

What IF you fall backwards?
@skamidanen
@skamidanen 4 года назад
Hehe, we practice and practice and practice that we won't fall backwards. But should you fall backwards keep your center of graviity as low as possible, put one of your feet to the back and try to land (with your ass) onto your trainling skate.

I want to ask for the surface, would it be much better on cement floor or on tar road for beginner to skate? Thank you 😊
@skamidanen
@skamidanen 3 года назад
Hey, both of the grounds have their advantages for beginners. cement floors are smoother and do not hurt that much in case you'll fall down. But maybe you will move to fast what brings you out of control. Tar roads are not that smooth, but they will slow down your movement speed, so it's easier to keep a slow speed to move and practice safer. But maybe you will stuck on pepple stones or something like that. However, for beginners both of the grounds are very good for practicing skating, even if they are not steep. 🙂✌

Shift your body to the side if you're falling backwards, so that you fall on your side and not on your arms. Falling backwards on both of your arms is a recipe for disaster
