How To Farm Music Discs! ▫ Minecraft Survival Guide (1.18 Tutorial Lets Play) [S2E73] 

I would like to say that Iskall on the Hermitcraft server found not just one, but TWO Otherside discs in the same chest in a dungeon.

Disk farming is my 13-year-old son’s favorite pastime in our shared world, as evidenced by the pitted battlefield lawn between our bases. I love these side work episodes. Thanks for the thorough coverage of all the minutiae in the guide.

I've heard the "broken" one is actually meant to be viewed through a spectrograph, in which case you can see a creeper face in the frequency readout.

This is officially one of my favorite weeks! Even though I knew all the things you showed today, it was great fun watching. I have a skeleton spawner and a very inefficient creeper farm which feeds the creepers into a holding space, so there's always a bunch of skeletons available to kill off any creepers that do manage to spawn. Great stuff, thanks!

Every time I hear people play otherside in their videos, the fist thing that comes in my mind is your outro. Sometimes I totally forget that it's the otherside music.

I don't understand how Mojang hasn't started paying Pix for his content yet. Between the museum build and this series, his ability to break down the game into easily digestible pieces is incredible. I remember the tutorial world on my old PS3 edition of Minecraft. Mojang needs to have Pix make a new version of that world.

I never realized pigstep and otherside were supposed to be rare, because I found pigstep in the first chest of the first bastion I ever raided, and when I updated my world to 1.18, I found otherside in the first new dungeon I encountered.

The generic bastion loot table can be found in every chest in the housing units bastion - including the one the central courtyard - so housing units is a great place to look for Pigstep (and the Snout banner pattern). In a treasure room bastion, every chest except the one at the very heart of the treasure chamber also has this table. The bridge bastion has one central chest which always contains a lodestone but no Pigstep, but the other chests on the two wings are the generic table. In hoglin stables, you'll want to search the ramparts section only as the chests in the lower part have the hoglin stables loot table rather than the generic one. I also found speedrunning guides helpful when searching for Pigstep for casual survival, since speedrunners need to know the layout of bastions and can have good advice on the locations of guaranteed chests. If you're able to hit a lot of bastions, with an elytra for instance, I've found a good strategy is to dig in through the top of the ramparts (which is, with small variations, very similar in all bastion types and always has generic chests), quickly check the chests there, and leave. I hope this advice is helpful to others looking for Pigstep or the Snout pattern.

That was so much fun! And your storage room looks teriffic. I was really sad that we never got to see your record shop and dance floor in Don't Die December. It would be wonderful if you would consider adapting the idea for this series. Imagine converting a jungle temple into a tiki room disco with crazy dancing parrots... Just a thought... :)

And now I want every music disc in the game. Thank you again for telling me when things are Java only (like the shield banner, I learned that one the hard way). Playing on MCPE isn’t too hard, I killed the ender dragon on my iPad. But I hate missing out on some of the Java only things. I might have to switch to a PC and play Java now!

There's a thing I've heard of, and I am pretty sure that is true that when skeletons by chance shoot flame arrows and the arrow primes a tnt, if the tnt explodes and kills a creeper, it will still count as skeletons kill and the music disc will drop. This is way faster than using the skeletons arrows to kill creepers one by one. Though it's not automatic because you need to place the tnt, but it's very efficient! And you can build a tiny creeper farm over the music disc farm to supply more creepers. Anyways, totally loved the video, and keep going on with this amazing series! ❤️ Btw, whats your favourite music disc(s)? I love all of them but my most fav are strad and far. I also love otherside

In Bedrock, there are a couple more music discs you don't need creepers for: 'wait' and 'mellohi' can also be found in buried treasure.

I love these simple record farms. I've used a similar one with trapdoors instead of sticky pistons, but it all works the same.

For anyone else collecting discs probably one of the easiest and quickest ways is to get a few boats (2 boat is enough) and trap and name a skeleton (mine was DJ Skelly) in an unlit part around your base (preferably open fields/beaches), build a little box around him with only a trapdoor for him to shoot out, collect some creepers and have a boat facing the skelly but the same kinda distance as pixl and work out the best angle to get two creepers in a row, once figured out you can get another couple boats and do the same thing behind you so you have 2 sets if you're bored during the daytime waiting. I put trapdoors in front of the skellys face so they only shoot when you flip that open and you have all the creepers in place. I also put up a block and trap door either side of my spot so when one side of creepers were killed I could flip that up and the skeleton wouldn't be able to shoot me while I waited for the otherside. By the time I made the 2nd hut for the skeleton I'd already got most discs (many multiples). Easier to deal with when you have multiple creepers, no redstone, hardly any materials plus quick and efficient.

I love it when parrots dance to discs!

There's also the spectrogram Easter eggs in the discs. Mojang really likes to send people down conspiracy rabbit holes with these.

This is brilliant! Thanks PixelRiffs. I’ve been wanting to collect the music discs, and now I have all but one!!!

I have farmed creeper music discs using this contraption many, many times, but there's another way to do it with no redstone components or TNT. Dig a 2x14 pit three blocks deep. Place walls on the floor of the third, sixth and ninth rows. Cover the third through sixth and ninth through fourteenth rows with solid blocks. Line the 2x2 openings with trap doors. Open the trap doors over the first and second rows and lure a skeleton into that pit. Nametag the skeleton, close the doors and cover them with solid blocks. Lure creepers into the other pit. Place a trapdoor and ladders at the far end from the skeleton to climb down behind the creepers. Replace the floor with slabs to adjust the skeleton's aim as needed, and place trapdoors over the walls prevent the skeleton shooting you when the creepers have been eliminated. The discs can be collected by temporarily breaking one of the near walls, or by lining the floor of the creeper pit with hoppers and carpet. It's a pretty simple structure that can be built early in the game before redstone is obtained, and it's easier to lure mobs into the pits than getting them onto a pressure plate.

Dude I have to thank you tons. I'm currently playing Vault hunters and a Vault crystal needed the broken 11 disc and I really didn't want to search for dungeons for hours. Seemed to take forever for a creeper to drop it but Now I have another useful farm. (Got to build a more automated one with creeper farm attached to speed it up though. Much Thanks.

In my experience, you don't really have to modify those massive floating mob grinders much to get music discs. I turned mine into an XP farm, and I found that if I buried myself a block lower than normal the mobs inside could see me and would start trying to attack. The skeletons always cleared everybody out, and I got more music discs than I knew what to do with. I didn't have to worry about getting them in a line, or going "one at a time", bulk worked perfectly efficiently.

The more videos I watch and the more I play, the more I realise just how much effort Mojang put into creating atmosphere, story/lore and everything. Also I seriously hope I never hear 11 in my life again, that’s is a very horror movie-esque sound. Great video and addition to the guide!

Its rare i get the opportunity to learn something new about minecraft anymore (when it comes to gameplay/wiki type trivia) but I had no idea the music discs themselves gave a redstone output i was delightfully shocked :)

Ohhh! No wonder I was having so much trouble getting some music discs via freeform running around with skeletons and creepers chasing me. I didn't realize the skeletons would so consistently shoot over the creepers' heads to hit the player! (Plus of course the strafing that skeletons constantly do made it REALLY hard to line up the shots in the first place lol)

Remember you can get the advancement and make the parrot dance with the music disc. I love the parrots dancing to them

I found an otherside disk in my world pretty easily, there was a surface cave with a barely covered spawner in it, and it was there. Never knew it was that rare!

I should get back to working on my hostile mob farm idea that produces music discs. General hostile mob farms are just something I never actually want or need myself so it's easy to ignore the project.

There's a obvious idea here for a Puzzle Map: Which disk has the RS Strength to open a door. Yet I don't remember ever seeing that idea implemented in a Custom Map or such. Could be mistaken but its a idea non the less

I’m a newbie, easier way to get discs is at the simplest of mob/xp farm. Just crouch behind a creeper and let the skeleton shoot it! Kinda cheating..but it works. I got 3 discs without even thinking about them. But Java eh idk if that works

Also: on Bedrock, skeletons tend to stand still and shoot you and then follow you if you run away. So making the music disc trap is a little harder on Bedrock.

You should start playing the game "Ark Survival Evolved" which I also love, and make a Survival Guide like this one, there is none really good in RU-vid.

The fastest to farm music discs is by trapping a lot of creeper and kill them with tnt but the tnt must be lit up by skeleton. To make the tnt lit up by skeleton, the arrow that shoot from the skeleton must be on fire and hit the tnt so you'll need to make the skeleton to shoot fiery arrows by making the arrow go through lava or a skeleton with a flame enchanted bow.

You should make a video about saplings and how they work.

Correct me if I am wrong if a skeleton shoots and arrow goes through lava turning the arrow into a flame arrow and the flame arrow ignites a tnt the creepers killed by that tnt all drop music discs

i suggest you to find the otherside in dungeon chests cuz they are common in deepslate levels and i have found 1 otherside in dungeon chest near my base.
