I must say I was a little apprehensive on the oats but switched to it and hay, minerals.....my wife has even noticed the difference in our 2 yrs old colt...... he's more, calm, not hyper or edgy. Will be continuing the feed to see more. Thanks. Hillsboro Ohio
Does this work on senior horses who have trouble keeping weight on? Do you feed this all year round or just in the winter? Opinion on: Flax seed Rice bran Alfalfa pellets?
Thank you for this information!! JUST what I was looking for. I want to feed my horse as well as I feed my children. I have one small horse and some goats. They eat from the same slow feeder I made out of fencing. If I put first cut in for the goats and second for the horse, the horse will pull out the first cut and eat that all before he goes to the second cut. Is the second cut more nutritious fo him? It sure looks it. Should I NOT give him that option and only feed him second? Thank you.
He says to feed a horse 10% of his body weight ~ I think he meant to say 1% because a few minutes later he says "If your horse weighs 1000 lbs. you ought to have 10 lbs. hay" and that is 1% of 1000 lbs. 10% would be 100 lbs. ~!
I have falkore on 2 lbs rolled oats 4 lbs sweetfeed. Will see about changing that. I had a salt block in for him but he was drinking 15+ gallons of water. It's just beginning winter. So I took it out till summer. I will put it in every other wk or so so he has his salt minerals
Our vet gave us a recipe for our horses consisting of a little corn, steamed barley and oats. After watching this video we did take the corn out of the mixture. Our vet told us that the corn was for energy. Please give your opinion on that comment.
Ted must not read these comments as he hasn't answered my question, either. If you listen again to the above video, near the end he mentions the corn again. He says it is for horses who are worked hard. If you have a horse for casual pleasure use, he doesn't recommend it. Do you use your horse for hard work/recreation?
I have very good looking roping horses , quarters horses to be technical. I also feed oats and alfalfa , But I have a 2 horses that can’t chew the oats . What should I feed ?
I don't have a roller, so I was going to blend the oats in a blender. If you do that and add some water, it should become a mash that your horses can eat. It is always healthier to soak grains anyway. But don't leave it long as it can go bad.
So for that1000 lb horse that your feeding 10 lbs of hay - is that once a day or twice a day? Meaning, 10 pounds twice a day, or 10 pounds total, twice a day (5 pounds twice a day)?
Simple. Reading and studying to show yourself approved. This man knows because he reads and studies and doesn't try to fix what wasn't broken from years and years ago. My question is. How do you introduce oats to a mini horse who has not been getting them?
Thank you for the kind words, always glad to help! My suggestion to your question is: a cup at a time. For a mini, 2 cups max a day. Let me know if you have anymore questions and thank you for watching our videos!
Wow , I got a new horse and gave her some pellets minerals so what. And it gave her the shits. I thought I killed her, wow thank you, she is fine now. Good info....
