How to Ferro Rod ignite damp leaves? It’s a lot harder than you’d think. Try this 4 part technique.
1) Choose the uppermost layer of leaves off the ground.
2) Process them up into larges, mediums, and smalls.
3) Take advantage of wood gas when possible to assist an ignition.
4) When you do get a flame, turn the leaf or leaves on edge with your knife.

I've used "damp" leaves many times to start fires when everything is wet. You are right sir, that it is not as easy as you make it look. Well done, and it is always very satisfying when they start burning.

Great video David. I will have to try and ferro rod ignite clump grass. Don't really have to many leaves here in the desert SW. Cheers from the desert SW USA!

Hi David. I find it easier to hold the 4" rod as opposed to the 3.25" rod. Either works on my key ring.

I have been wondering for a long while now; what is that surface on your workbench outside?? I used to think it was some sort of metal sheeting, but not sure now!!?? Keep the videos coming, please!! 👍🏻👏🏻👏🏻

10 years ago it was 1/8” plate, then I went to sheet metal from an opened up 10” duct pipe, then I cut the 1/8” plate down some and put it on my new table I made 4 years ago. Search David west build fire table.
