In a semi-intensive system, a well fertilized pond means more natural food supplement for your fish. It ensures that your fish always have something to eat - especially fingerlings.
Dear Willy, hats off to your superb video on the subject which matches nowhere in the RU-vid on the subject I have seen. I am just an enthusiast and collecting all possible knowledge to start a small fish farm just for family self reliance. I am sending a query mail to you please give me all details in reply. Thanks & Regards, J.Antony.
@munalaFISH please how could i totally removed or be sure that there are no bacterial in the organic fertilizer am to use? in my case poultry. i ask because have seen someone lost all his investment as a result.
Rodrigue HALLAKKER Kindly get in touch with me using the Email address provided in the videos and on this channel. I believe we can share a lot in this way.
munalafish thanks for this infor am about to go home and start my own fish business but I have experience and my land is small so I want to start with plastic tank pond so I just some tips how to go about thanks
hello Sir ' Namesta'' I am AaNtaYa GiRi from NepaL & I want to do a small fish farm' so sir plzz can u help me in it' how much the depth & length should have for fish pond before applying water what we have to do to ponds ' plzz sir help me on it with your video plzz sir thank u soo much
For a new pond, you fertilize first and put in the fingerlings once the water turns green. But since the fertilizer keeps on being used by planktons when the fish is growing, regular fertilization is also done when the fish is already inside the pond. The fish are not directly affected by this.
NICE VIDEO SIR ,BUT I GOT QUESTION 1 after farm yard manure , you titled it should b well decomposed before feeding but you didnt described procedure to decompose that & 2 DURING ANIMAL WASTE MANURE YOU DID MENTIONED TYPE OF ANIMALS & also mentioned that DRY DOESN'T MEAN DECOMPOSED , BUT there also no procedure mentioned to decompose that too where as in one pic there is poultry farm constructed over fish pond which can b taken as direct chicken manure can directly be fed to fishes as soon as they excrete ? PLEASE DO EXPLAIN many people will learn n earn knowledge
Sumit Tete Feeding and use of manure should run concurrently. While feeding provides immediate food for the fish, manure provides food (nutrients) for plankton - which provide natural food to the fish from within the pond.
William Habari ya kushinda I just started a fish farm with ten ponds 4 meters by 2 meters each and fertilised them with accurately measured amounts of urea and DAP. I did not apply ANY organic manure. Two weeks later, I put in roughly 500 Nile tilapia fingerlings in each of four ponds and started feeding them after 24 hrs with 50 gms powder feed twice a day in each pond. Three days later ALL the fish died but did not float. My water is from a 64 feet deep well and apart from a slightly high fluoride level, it is very good water with a pH of 8.4. Any suggestions as to what might have gone wrong? Shabbir Malik Nakuru
You have not species of fish and the nature of ponds (are they concrete or earthen?). Did all the fingerlings die at once? Several things could have gone wrong: 1. Sudden change in water pH. Your pH seems to be on the higher side. Did you measure the pH of the transporting water. 2. Suffocation due to reduced oxygen levels, especially at night. If your ponds were too fertile, then the plankton could have used most of the dissolved oxygen at night. 3. Contaminated or expired feed - this is a possibility I suggest you get to me through my email with more details: willymunala@yahoo.com
+munalaFISH Thanks a lot Willaim The fingerlings were nile tilapia mono sex. My ponds are lined with black polythene liners. I did not check the pH of the transporting water. I have purchased a pH meter which also checks the temperature and I will be using it as I learn more about aquaculture. It is quite possible that the fish died due to suffocation and the plankton took up all the oxygen. Would it be a good idea to start aerating the ponds with air from an electric compressor or from an inflated lorry tube. Also please let me know if you supply mono sex tilapia fingerlings My next communication will be by e mail with you. My e mail is smshmalik5@gmail.com Thanks once again for the prompt reply Malik
+Ifedayo Okunola I would say for as long as it keeps the pond green. The moment the plankton density starts declining (water becomes clearer), then all the nutrients would have leached out of the bag - you need to replace the manure in the bag at that point.
Yes, it will work anywhere as long as the climate is tropical and the fish culture system is carried out in earthen ponds. Many people on the Asian sub-continent are doing this.
I am sorry Sir. These videos were designed and customised for my Kenyan (and East African) fish farmers. And these are their favourite cultural tunes. I am glad other people are watching as well, but my target audience may take offence if we call their favourite tunes "VERY BAD". It is their culture. Let us respect it.
