I still don't understand why I'd need to withhold an extra $145 per check. Does the gov't not take enough just as is?
@Chrisampe91
@Chrisampe91 Год назад
Seriously though mine says $229 per paycheck. My pay check after that for my 2nd job is like 300 every two weeks. Fuck the government. This is ridiculous. People picking up a second job do so because they NEED to but the government seems to punish you for trying to better yourself and pay shit off. I have scoured the internet and NOBODY can explain to me why the government needs to take this additional charge per paycheck. It’s absolute BS
@firehot427

@@Chrisampe91 File single for your normal job and tax exempt for your second job. Better to do this if you’re married. If you’re married do box C with similar paying jobs unless you make more than double of your wife you would follow these steps. Married means you get taxed less. Filing single means they take more
@Chrisampe91
@Chrisampe91 Год назад
@@firehot427 I file single for my part time job and married for the full time. I have extra taken out on the full time job paycheck to cover the part time job taxes. I get paid weekly from my FT job so it spreads it out more. However my point was is why does the government need additional federal withholdings on top of the normal withholdings when you get a part time job. Why not just take the normal amount out for taxes. Or maybe any hours worked over 40 should be tax free because I give the fucking government enough money and they can fuck off. Shouldn’t need to give them more money than normal after 40 hours. It’s like they punish you for trying to get ahead.

I was confused on this too. But for Step 2, it says "Use the Multiple Jobs Worksheet on page 3 and enter the result in Step 4(c) below; or (c) If there are only two jobs total, you may check this box. Do the same on Form W-4 for the other job. This option is generally more accurate than (b) if pay at the lower paying job is more than half of the pay at the higher paying job. Otherwise, (b) is more accurate" So, it looks like it would be left blank on the lower paying job

How about if you're married and have a spouse that has a higher paying job AND receives social security, which is more than what you make? Literally no one talks about this. Do you count it as one of the higher paying jobs? For example: "Add the annual wages of the two highest paying jobs from line 2a together and use the total as the wages in the "Higher Paying Job" row and use the annual wages for your third job in the "Lower Paying Job" column to find the amount from the appropriate table on page 4 and enter this amount on line 2b"

So what I am taking from this is: the amount in 4(c) will be withheld in addition to the taxes they already take out? Seems excessive in my case as I am already paying around $471 in federal taxes per pay period. My worksheet came out to around $133, so that's $604 per paycheck as well as the withholding from my second job. Am I missing something?

My wife has a full time job and I have a full time job. I’m starting a second job (part time). I used the multiple jobs worksheet with my higher salary on the left and her lower salary on the right, took that figure (~ $500) and entered it on the W4 under extra tax withheld. You are. File single for both w2’s (your full time and wifes full time). Do box c for both yours and your wifes job. For your part time do tax exempt. File married when tac season comes. You’ll get a refund. Now box C falls apart if you make double of what your wife does. Or she makes double. That’s what it’s meant for. Irs tax calculator can help you figure out how much your refund will be. Just move the slider down to figure out step 2 and how much deductions you want if you want your refund to be $0 and not owe anything or get anything or it’ll tell you how much withholding you need extra. Just make sure you have your most recent paystubs for all jobs and enter them in
