How to Film REALISTIC Clips in Session! | Session

my biggest tip for filming would be to turn the camera tracking path on in the replay editor settings, when you're not in montage view it shows you the actual camera so you can really see how it's moving, hugely underrated feature imo

as someone who finally made the choice to give session a shot this tutorial was very helpful. the game is still frustrating to me and i have gotten a little more used to it but filming is what i was struggling with the most. i think its still gonna take a lot more time to fully get used to it all but this video helped a ton! a more in depth video of the buttons your actually pressing does sound like a lot to explain but if you could go more into detail that would be awesome!!

I recommend everyone look up common skate filming techniques in real life, you could learn a lot from that stuff :-D

I can only repeat some things that i've criticized in your first montage from a couple of weeks ago. Admittedly though, your second one was a lot better,so this is more like some general food for thoughts :D I do steongly believe that doing something in any form of art because "it looks cool" is awkward reasoning. Because "it looks cool" is a emotional response to what's happening, not the thing happening itself. So unless you can come up with an explanation to why it looks cool, you're not really adding nor removing anything. It's like saying "red is a good color because i like it". Sure, thst might be true for the individual, but without any further context that information is completely useless. Does it now mean that the only color that should ever be used for anything should be red, because a person said they like it? Obviously you need context, why was the color chosen, what is the context in what it was chosen and for what is the color for? Is it supposed to look scary, soothing, agressive? is it on a vehicle, on a wall, on a painting? You should ask yourself these questions while doing art of any form, and if you want to do something but you can't come up with a good reason to why, then there's a good chance that it doesn't add anything, or even worse distracts from what is important. Sure, you could argue if that's even important, and that it's all subjective and whatever, and that is true to some degree. But there's a science to everything, and video/film is a medium that's been done for forever, and has arguably been perfected, and the "rules" or quirks that we've come up with tend to work. Anyone can pick up a good camera and press record, and someone who is not familiar with it might think that that's all it takes to make a "good video". But the truth is, the science is behind everything you _don't_ actively see, but that's been carefully handcrafted to make the viewing experience exactly what the creator wants you to see, and not get distracted with things that aren't important. So "realistic filming" isn't just to act like we're on the streets with our camcorder and filming some skate clips. You can do it like that, but all you're really accomplishing is the exact thing that thousands, if not millions of people have done already, and what realistically anyone could do. It's art ladies and gents, make it worth while! Inspirational speech over! :D

Please make your controller overlay bigger cause its hard you keep the skater and the controller in the same field of view

Try this skater XL pull your sticks both to the same side when you grind a flat rail or a stair rail you can easily get a 50/50 or a cross lock 50/50 experiment with the triggers. Never push up and down on the sticks

I struggle getting my camera to follow the skater at a good pace . My camera, when I set key frames it looks good in slo-mo with my triggers and then I play it and it’s all hanky’s

It would really help if I could actually invert the vertical camera controls. I won't be able to do crap with filmer mode until they add the ability to do that to the game.

One trick that I like using to really push the realism is to go to Pause -> Replay Editor -> Camera Path Display Mode -> Full Path If you exit the Montage View [LB] you will see the exact path the camera will take as well as the position the camera is at any point on the timeline. With this you can really see where the filmer is going and adjust their path to be exactly the way you want. There are a couple other tips and tricks that you'll learn just by practicing with the tool. Just have fun, find your style, and express yourself.

Also with real life filming, there’s the rule of thirds, where you don’t want the subject to be centered. You want him to be on the side, or corner, and it’ll look better. Personally I would only make him centered for if I was recording the video for the purpose of making a RU-vid short cuz of having to crop the video and stuff.
