@DrDhand the problem here in the US is that going about interviewing doctors isn’t part of the process. In other words doctors don’t give interviews. You choose one and hope for the best, and then you can interview them and if you don’t like them you’re back to square one. What would be great would be some sort of community or network of doctors that think like you. That way we know we have good doctors and can pick based on other more practical factors.

Hello, question for you, doctor... Have you noticed that any other diagnosis with an "ia" at the end of it, i.e. anorexia, bulimia, etc. seemed to be treated as if they should be helped to stop that particular "self distortion" that can get in the way of healthy living within society and yet, today, a man wearing makeup is a woman suddenly and can tell the whole world WE must support this "self distortion" and if we don't, the government and medical field say we're the problem?

I’m 66 years old and have not come across a doctor that cares. You don’t even have to really ask them anything, it’s the “no” eye contact and you getting the feeling they want you out of there. I’m sorry I lost faith in the medical profession a long time ago and COVID was the end for me.

With healthcare, like most things in life, we're on our own: each one of us has to make daily decisions about how best to build and maintain vitality. For acute cases, such as an automobile accident, the best we can hope for from the medical industry is a good technician to stop the blending, set a broken bone, etc. Even then, though, the healing process after initial trauma care is the responsibility of the individual.

While it might seem impossible, thank the Lord when you can find one. I did find an honest doctor and it took a lot of BS along the way. Right now most of us are on our own. Exercise and I hope you explore intermittent fasting. Put our Lord Jesus Christ first in everything you do and you will be justified and you will be at peace and you will be saved forever. If your faith does not develop the fruit of virtue with the highest virtue being humility then it is not faith in Lord. Peace my brother. Fight the good fight and stay strong.

Same here, I haven't seen a GP doctor or specialist who cares for over 20 years. Personally, I never have any health issues, and haven't been to a doctor since 2002. But I saw how badly my parents were treated by doctors in their later years. My dad was bounced around from specialist to specialist for 5-6 years. None of them found the root cause of his condition, all they did was run a bunch of expensive tests, and prescribe some new med that my Dad hadn't tried before. The last time I took him to the hospital emergency room, there was a woman doctor who to my surprise, actually listened to me describe in detail his symptoms and treatment over the last 6 years (My dad was too ill to speak for himself). She immediately said she thought she knew what the problem was, and did a simple test to confirm it. She was right. He had a pretty rare autoimmune disease that causes inflammation of the arteries, restricting blood flow and causing extreme fatigue and stress on internal organs. He had all the symptoms for years, yet no other doctor bothered to do the test. Detected early, it's a treatable disease, but it was too late for my Dad, his internal organs were failing because of it, and he never made it out of the hospital again.

Same here. Long Covid forced me into early retirement after 34 yrs. I’ve had to fight for 4 years to get proper Drs care from my GP. I’ve found sending regular anonymous written complaints to CQC ( an organisation run by many nurses) to be, very effective. Flagging up anything from appalling arrogant attitudes and lack of empathy from Dr’s to problems with receptionist’s, has been very effective. CQC Audit Drs surgeries once a year on average. If problems are flagged up by patients on the CQC website anonymously, it triggers a response from CQC. It still doesn’t find you the nice Dr, but it pulls the bad ones into line ASAP. Try it and see, it works.

When I go to him, sometimes my asthma flares up, I already know what I need; fluticasone inhaler 220 mcg, three puffs per week. He'll prescribe two puffs every day, but I know I don't need that, and I discontinue the medicine as soon as I can. He'll also offer me blood pressure pills for my white-coat syndrome, (my BP at home is 110/70) which I decline to take.

Most of them are painfully arrogant and condescending. I'm a problem solver and could never rush people through a 2 to10 minute appointment which is the norm. Most consider 10 minutes to be a very long conversation.

Almost impossible to find that kind of doctor in the USA. It’s a monopoly. Finding a doctor is not easy. My doctor retired. I was transferred to another doctor from the same practice. When I called for appointment to get my prescriptions, the office said they don’t have any appointments for next six months. When I asked them to give me refills, they said they can’t do that unless the new doctor sees me first. They then advised me to go to urgent care to get my prescriptions filled. I could go on. The medical care in the USA really sucks. When supply side is limited and controlled, the consumer is lucky if they find a doctor.

I have a very good dr. She looks me in the eyes and not on her computer, but she knows me and knows I refuse most medications. The doctors, especially if they are part of a group or accept insurance, are tracked on their prescribing history, and can get censored if not enough income going to Big Pharma. The state of Texas tried repeatedly to take away the license of Dr Burzynski, who compounds his own medicines individually for his patients to heal neuroblastoma. He moved his practice to Texas because it is a lone state where this is legal. But, he is across the street from MD Anderson Cancer Center and they can’t heal neuroblastoma cancer, but he does.

@@TiredEmpath lol. Yep I have been labeled non compliant too by other drs. I remember going to an ENT ( ear, nose, throat) dr because I had an enlarged parathyroid gland that was discovered after I had a car accident when they did a scan of my neck. Long story short the specialist wanted me to have some sort of mri with contrast. I refused, not only because I didn’t want the contrast, I just didn’t feel comfortable having the same guy who removes my ear wax doing surgery on me . Non compliant was written across my chart. He could see where it was from my hospital records. Long story short. I found a surgeon that I had confidence in. Told him no mri with contrast and he said he wasn’t even going to suggest it anyway explaining the surgery is the same only my incision would be in a different area. I had the surgery. All is well. Not even a scar because he made the incision in the fold my neck. I guess the moral of my story is find a doctor who listens and is willing to give you explanations.

Here in canada, if you can somehow find a physician (or dentist) who is accepting new patients, they all only see patients who have a v*x passport and have had at least 5 or 6 shots and are eager to have more shots to get "up to date". And you're supposed to mask up as you walk in the door, and use their mystery hand sanitizer (there are no rules or guidelines about what can and can't be in hand sanitizer, and there are no ingredients lists - and yes, some "santizer" literally burns your skin and causes scarring). You're also supposed to remove your shoes. (I'm not making this up). They also won't answer questions. A customer waits an hour or two or three hours for a two minute to five minute robot style consult, with the masked bandit sitting at a desk clicking a mouse and staring at a computer screen. They don't look at the customer, don't say hello, don't introduce themselves. They leave without a word, and a receptionist comes in and hands you a stack of newly printed paperwork for prescriptions and tests you didn't ask for and don't want. And, as for "when your doctor is washing their hands"... they don't. Haven't for years. They don't use hand sanitizer. They use and reuse plastic or latex gloves and if they drop a glove on the floor, they pick it up and put it on.

I should add most physicians here don't speak or understand English (or French) well at all, can't understand many basic questions, can't understand medical terms, and allegedly got their training and license in Pakistan or Egypt or Haiti or Somalia or Bangladesh, etc. It's been a thing for about 20 years. Also, anyone can call themselves a physician, see patients, and even bill government insurance (at least in Alberta and Saskatchewan), despite not having any medical training. At _most_ they will receive a letter by mail from the provincial medical association asking them politely to refrain from practicing medicine without a license. But, hey, it's only a polite suggestion. 😬

I haven't had a doctor for almost a year. I had to drop the one I had. It was my first visit with him. He spent a total of 5 minutes with me, didn't look over my patient history, and cut me off when I asked him a question. (I am a former nurse, now in my 70's). I was so appalled by his behavior!!! The reason I went to him was because my former doctor left town and didn't even let me know. What is happening with these doctors????????? Just awful! I have lost respect for these medical people...sorry, I can no longer call them medical "professionals".

Me and two of my sisters have been nurses since 93 and 94. One has her masters. My cousin’s wife left teaching and went into nursing. One of my sisters and I tried to help her study and learn the information they are teaching. It’s not the same anymore. There wasn’t anything in skills, disease, treatments etc. it was all about scenarios of dealing with communicating, management, and stuff like that. I left 10 years ago but I was precepting students and wasn’t sure what they were being taught because when it came to skills, they went from only giving meds to one patient with the teacher over them to me seeing if they could manage a whole team. I knew we were doomed then.

Recently had my yearly Medicare exam. What a farce! I was asked if I’d had any falls recently to which I responded yes. She asked if I was having any lingering problems from them. Didn’t ask what happened, just told me to take meclazine (antivert) if I was feeling unstable. She asked if I was safe at home. She checked my ears and heart and that was it. I told her I wanted to go off a couple medications. She said she didn’t think I should, but I insisted, so she grudgingly agreed to a six month trial.

Thanks for the heads up Dr Dhand. What you spoke about here is the same as an experience I had this week. My doctor and I talked about my involvement in lowering my very high cholesterol and reassuringly agreed with me that I can attempt to do it with my determination and with appropriate lifestyle changes. I left my consultation with her with a positive attitude, whereas when I had seen the pharmacist at the same practice a week previous she cited the numbers with a kind of shock in her tone and look. I left that meeting feeling down and worried. She expressed a negativity and saw statins as being the only answer to my results for elevated serum cholesterol. The difference in my feelings between the two meetings for the same test results was like chalk and cheese. My confidence that I can correct, or at least try to better, the condition was down to the doctors vibe, her attention, care, compassion, professionalism and vibe. Thanks for reinforcing this as being the basic principle underpinning good health care and patient wellbeing. It makes ALL the difference.

We need more doctors like you that know how to connect with patients. I would think that being a doctor is one part art & one part science. Empathy is naturally included in the art side of the equation. You impart something of yourself when you care & show true concern. Why become a doctor if you don't care about people? Money is not enough of a reason to be in the profession.

In years past we had doctors who went into medicine because they truly were committed to their patients health and well being. Now this " new breed" of doctors are care-LESS, rude, narcissistic and are sadly driven by money. I live in NE Texas and all of our really good doctors have either died because they were very old or they have left the practitioner side of medicine all together and gone into the Administrative side. What has been brought in to replace them are horrible! What's graduating from medical school today should terrify us all! I have zero use for them.

Devil's advocate: how it might look from the MD perspective: patients who come in convinced they know what they need for x, y or z and the *patient* won't listen to contrary advice; the patient who is not forthcoming about medications or supplements taken; patients who are given advice and then don't follow it or do so on a haphazard basis and complain the doctor is an idiot because nothing worked. The doctor portrayed in this video only exists in an office with no time constraints on patient visits, has someone to handle all administrative tasks (denials, prior auths, etc); knows the patients WILL follow lifestyle advice.....you get the picture ;-). To those saying it's the patient's responsibility to take some responsibility for outcomes - spot on.
