I hope you got some valuable ideas from this interview! Let me know what kind of questions you would like me to ask in the next interview?

Good job Oliver. It’s really informative 👏. I’d be nice if you can help to distinguish the recruiting process between a corporate and a small - size company. For me I also think that it’s easier for me to talk with hiring manager directly rather than with HR people. But of course in the big corporate when everything’s setup, it’s hard to have the conversation with hiring managers directly. Thank you

As a British Cambridge graduate I have to say I was totally unprepared coming to Finland. I was working in Moscow before moving to Helsinki - I've now worked 9 months here - after 6 months of jobseeking - but now I'm volunteering in robotics and studying Finnish full time. Finding a job here is one thing, finding a career and a company willing to nurture international talent is another story entirely. 😅 This video is spot on about how important it is to make friends and keep getting involved with events. It's helped a lot and I'm hoping to land a project management role very soon. :)

Hey Lewis and thanks so much for sharing your story - this is both interesting and infuriating at the same time. I dont understand how there arent more recruitment related services for talented people like you. Especially considering your background and your willingness to put in time and effort on developing yourself. If you want, i would love to give you some pointers on this topic. I noticed that you reached out on linkedin and id love to have a discussion there if you feel that it would help. However before that, there are a few resources that id recommend you check out: First of all, i would recommend that you join our Discord server. The idea of the server to build a community of people interested in building their careers in Finland. In the server i post updates about my upcoming videos and live streams and i answer peoples most frequently asked questions. If you are interested in checking it out, you can join the server using this link: discord.gg/Sj5UdMT Second, if you are interested in learning more about job opportunities and job hunting in Finland, i recommend that you download this job hunting app: meetfrank.onelink.me/nwaQ/downloadFI Its a great tool for any international job seekers because its not only a tool for finding a job in Finland, but it also tells you how much money you could earn in your field in Finland. The app is 100% free of charge and ive personally been using it for a few years now. Third, i recommend that you check out this video where i go through 15 ways on finding a job in Finland as a student or a graduate. Some of them are not relevant to you, but the video description include a bunch of helpful links that you could use: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-CoQ7WHr5zpw.html Finally, if you have any questions about working and building ones career in Finland, i have a weekly Q&A live stream every Thursday at 6:30 pm local time. I basically go live for 2-3 hours answering peoples questions on living, studying and working in Finland. Heres the link to the latest live stream if you want to check it out: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-F5Q1s5iE7Qs.html

I studied here in Finland as a International degree student. I have been volunteering in events and projects for over a year, and also networking. I must say it has helped in gaining contacts and get closer to the job hunt but yet it is so difficult to find a job. It is easy to find an unpaid or volunteering internship but not a full time paying job. I still haven't found one so I can't comment on the Hopes. I have seen Saku's work in promoting Internationals in Finnish job market. That is actually a big emotional boost to keep trying. Thank you for this video.

Hey Lakshmi and thanks so much for your input on this topic! Its really hard to hear stories like your where the experience has been that its super hard to find a job. Ive noticed that there are two main issues that many international job seekers have when looking for jobs (if we take networking out of the equation) 1. Not knowing when and where to look for jobs 2. Not knowing how to formulate and optimise ones application documents for a Finnish job market Both of these issues are super frustrating because the only way to fix these is by experience. These are the same issues that native Finns also face in the start of their careers, but because most Finns (especially those with a higher degree) already have a lot of practice by the time they graduate, it might seem a bit easier for them. This is such an unfortunate situation and i wish i could do something about it.

@@RoadtoFinnish thanks Oliver for answers. Your insights are quite valuable and meaningful. I have realized about them lately. Would it possible for you make a video on that? Apart from networking the tips and tricks for job applications. In addition to the above, the worst situation is that the results of last 5 interviews have been negative either due to Corona cancelled recruitment, hiring person no more at job or they hired some internally. The frustrating part is that you don't have a solid reason for rejection upon which you can improve on. What can an applicant infer from these results?
@RoadtoFinnish
@RoadtoFinnish 3 года назад
I do appreciate the frustration. Not getting feedback or the reasons for not being selected is something that companies in Finland should improve in across the board. One tip for you is to simply be proactive and ask for feedback whenever you are being dropped from a hiring process. Most (not all) recruiters are happy to give you some pointers for improving your CV, application, interviewing skills etc.. and i think this is the best way to improve yourself personally. About the videos. Im currently working on a all-in-one course on job hunting in Finland that we intend to launch after new years. The course is going to cover every topic about job hunting in Finland starting from when and where to find jobs to salary negotiations so it should give you a huge arsenal of tricks to use. Im doing the course together with my old colleague who has more than 8 years of experience in the finnish job market so the content should be pure gold. Because the course takes so much time to put together, it will unfortunately be a paid course. We will publish small pieces for free on the channel but we have to be able to pay ourselves a salary for the hundreds of hours of work that we put into it. I really hope that it will bring you value - and we will try to price it in such a manner that its accessible to as many people as possible. Would this be something that you would be interested in? Id love to hear more about the different challenges that you guys face because this will allow me and my partner to address them directly.

@@RoadtoFinnish the course sounds pretty interesting. Good luck on it. Do not forget your competitors such as university career counselors, TE-OFFICE counseling and mentoring programs by different organizations offering similar services. Many of us have been to atleast 1-4 of these and might have got saturated already. So it all lies in the value output. Will look forward to it 😊

@RoadtoFinnish 3 года назад
This was super helpful, thanks for the information! We definitely have to take into account that there are already other service providers that have similar type of services/products. Our idea is to go much deeper than many e.g. the TE-offices especially considering that TE-offices are not specialised in serving university educated students or graduates. On the other hand, our expertise is specifically in this niche so im sure that we'll be able to offer a lot of value. Ill let you know when we are further with the course 👍

Hey Jahin and thanks for the interesting question! This is pretty much 100% dependent on you and your interests. Its pretty much impossible for me to tell you which is better because i dont know your background or how the schools are in your country. However what i can say is that you would not regret doing both your bachelors and masters at Aalto. It would not only be a great experience but you would also get great career prospects for yourself 👍. If you are even a bit interested in doing your bachelors at Aalto, i definitely recommend that you apply. Especially considering that applying to study in Finland is always free - what do you have to lose ✌️

IT recruitment is completely different than all the rest. Not applicable to other job seekers unfortunately. In terms of IT sector this makes sense tho. Good video. However problem in Finland is that the job market search is designed for extrovert people and well half of Finland is introverted and doesn’t like to push their envelope too hard, or sound phony and desperate. They prefer remaining low key and honestly just apply for suitable jobs or remote jobs which is hard in the Finnish job seeker’s market, they mostly don’t hear back from anyone, regardless of the numbers of the applications sent.

Hey Smritikana and thanks for the question. Unfortunately im not able to help people individually with job hunting because this would literally take all of my available time 😏 but i do have some resources for you if you have the motivation to start looking for more information yourself. For example, i have a video where i talk about a bunch of different ways to find jobs in Finland and you can use the information in that video to find the best job sites in Finland for these fields. You can watch the video here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-CoQ7WHr5zpw.html Oh btw, even though the video title says that these tips are for part-time jobs, they also apply for full-time positions as well.

Hey Divij, i have a video planned about the highest paid jobs in Finland but its impossible to make a video that is specifically about the highest paid engineering jobs. There is no public data about this + your salary will always depend on your personal background and skills and there is no way to give a general answer on this topic. Aalto university has a huge amount of courses and degrees and its not possible for me to list all of them. Its a cool idea, but its just not possible for me to do.
