my side project is life. spend time with family & friends. Whenever I want to program something that isn't directly work I just frame it as "educating" myself at my job and then do it on job time
❤Glad to see you back🎉. I feel like identify with you and your personality so much. I’m glad you started posting again, and good work on your side project! Another tip i would like to add, is find someone and build a smalll solution just for them, and use the technilgies that you want. You will learn a lot in the process and who knows, maybe you can share with others that’s have the same problem. It just adds some accountability to finishing side projects.
From my experience in making side projects, it’s often more difficult to come up with an idea that is completely new. Even if it is a problem I have already successfully identified, chances are there exists a solution for it already. But just because a solution exists doesn’t mean you shouldn’t do it. In fact it’s an opportunity to make your side project a competitor to existing solutions. Knowing solutions exists for certain problems is a confirmation that there is a market for that product, so you can spend time figuring out how to make your implementation better, whether that be making it more affordable, having more features, better user experience, etc. The more familiar you are with the problem, the easier it is for you to know how to make a product better, although it’s totally possible to venture into a new industry and figure it out from there. And just to drive home the point, what I’ve said isn’t anything new. Thousands of people have said this already on different platforms, but that doesn’t deter me from saying it myself in this comment section specifically. One should treat making side projects like writing comments: do it even if the information already exists, it may garner some views and potentially some contribution, even if you think there’s none left to make, because that’s not necessarily true
Happy to see you back, yeah aspiring software dev here, living vicariously through your life experiences. Appreciate your insights. Also would love to hear how the job search process is going. Thank you for your videos as it has helped me develop as a person an presevere.
I have a project I'd like to make for a couple of communities when I finish my degree this fall, but I have no idea about what's available for hosting. I'm curious if you have more resources and insight on choosing a host? Thanks a bunch, and good luck as you continue preparing for your return to work!
