For you kids out there. Aircraft Mechanic on Tankers is the best job in the Air Force. Also get into a Reserve or Guard Tanker Unit.

Hi Jody! I’ve been watching a lot of your videos recently. Thanks for all the info! I’m interested in enlisting as Personnel. Is that a common position to get? On a scale of medical to SF how hard is it to get a guaranteed contract for personnel?

SF is a 10 of getting a job. Medical is a 1, and personnel (or other admin jobs) are a 1 as well. That being said anything is possible. It’s just not something to bank on because you could be upset with the way things work out. I’m sorry this is probably not what you wanna hear, I’m just trying to be realistic. *unless you’re going guard or reserve*. They should be able to hook you up, however you would only be part time receiving part time benefits. So you gotta ask yourself what’s most important. The job, or the benefits to provide a better lifestyle. I hope that helps. 🤙🏽

I would recommend you reach out to your recruiter. Every location will have their own list of jobs available. Your recruiter should be able to show you any available jobs.

Ohh yeah i just wanted to let you know when you do waiver vids you should state that usphs is a uniformed service branch and are considered vets at the so when you get people like me who chances of getting a waiver are low key them know you can still serve in a uniformed service that they will still be a vet and still get ucmj and it’s like the coast guard not in dod but still like military and they get the same benefits and are considered in the same regard as military vets and you don’t need waivers or anything

Hey Jody. Hope everything is well for you today. I’m trying to do some research on the people who signal the pilots when they land and takeoff. I can’t find a specific MOS for this though. It’s been so hard to find an exact name for it that I’m starting to think that doesn’t exist in the AF lol. I think it’s called “marshelling”. Can you tell me exactly what it’s called? So I can look up the requirements and so forth.

It’s called marshalling and crew chiefs do it. If you’re doing research for that job look for tactical aircraft maintenance or special aircraft maintenance.

Hey Jody, I had a question that this video some what touched on so I figured I may as well ask. I have a lot of interest in becoming a surgical technician and when I think about it, that's really the only job I'm interested in. Is that something that would be okay to want, going into a recruiter's office saying that I really am interested in one job? It's been one of my biggest reasons that I would hesitate from going through with actually seeing a recruiter.

So that’s a great question, but unfortunately I’m probably gonna give you the answer you dreaded. Any kind of medical job in the Air Force is gonna be high demand, low supply. 8 out of 10 people going into a recruiters office (these were my numbers when I recruited) wanted a medical job. I had to tell everyone of them I’m sorry but we’re not really hiring for that right now. Out of 100+ applicants I put into the Air Force, 3 of them went directly into a medical job. That’s how the rare the opportunities are. So if you’re only set on that one job, the Air Force most likely won’t be able to help you get it. Hey Jody I’m prior service but have more than a six year break in service. I’m 33 so can I still enlist as a non-prior service recruit? I have no other issues that would disqualify me from enlisting. Thank you and I enjoy the videos.

The regulations state if there’s more than a 6 year break you cannot join. At this point you’d have to join guard or reserve. I’ve heard of people getting around the 6 year break somehow, I’m just not familiar with how. I don’t know if it’s true or myths.

Hi Jody! Do you know long it normally takes for a recruiter to start taking in new people? Mine just told me they are full to the max and ‘that doesn’t mean they can’t work with me in the future’. And that last line really sucked the life out of me tbh! It feels like they meant months from now

Even if they’re full they should be able to work you. Unless of course you told them you wanted medical or administrative jobs. If you said that, they most likely told you they’re full because they know they can’t get you one of those jobs. But we’re never really to the max, just always limited on medical and admin jobs. @@Jodywithawhy we honestly haven’t discussed jobs. I took a test and she said my score was good compared to the practice test I did and then when I asked about the way forward she just said she is full to the max and she can only work with as many non us citizen

Hi! I got Entry level seperation discharge from Air Force basic training last August of 2021 for pt test failure specifically the sit ups. They told me that I can try again in six months. Do happen you to know if it’s possible to get a waiver approved for it and what steps it will take to get it? The separation code is JGA and reentry code is 4c. Thanks!

They always say you can try again, but an RE code of 4c is almost impossible. Not trying to destroy your hopes, just want you to know most recruiters will avoid working you because of that code. But because you never graduated basic, you’ll have a better chance than most people. So I’d say keep working out and keep trying to join. Give it about 6 months, and try again.

Because one of my friends from basic training that also got kicked of bmt for failing the pt test last August of this year was going to get discharged at his guard base, and he told them he wanted to stay and he was able to still be in the Air national guard.

The guard has more flexibility for stuff like that. So I’d recommend the guard if you try it again.

Congrats on scoring high. Nows the hard part. I would say talk with your recruiter about what jobs are commonly available during the job drafts, and see which one of those jobs interest you. Then do some research from there.

My AF dream job is to be a sensor op and become a drone op as an officer unfortunately my recruiter is telling me it’s not likely but to put it on my list. I hate that I can Facebook it and see kids getting this job recently while I’m begging to get it I would stay 20 years if I could.

It’s a very rare job to book and highly demanded. So when you see someone get it, just know they were extremely fortunate. It’s still possible though. I hope everything works out.

Hey I’m going to bmt in 1 month and I’m using a nasal spray prescription for nose allergy. My recruiter told me that I may get disqualified bc of the situation today COVID. So I decided to stop using it and would they find out in bmt when they take my blood at bmt that I’m using nasal spray? My nose feel better now thooo I’m just gonna leave my nasal spray at home.

The recruiters commanders. The recruit will create the waiver and route it up to their commander. That’s if it’s for criminal background, financial issues and dependency waivers. But medical waivers will be routed to the surgeon general for approval.

I know the Air Force has the job selection list you need to make. However, since security forces seems to be in demand, would that potentially be “easier” to get. I say “easier” very lightly. But thank you for your time.

It would definitely be easier to get. Because it’s always in demand (it’s our biggest career field) but you’ll still need to list other jobs. Just stress to your recruiter you’d love to have that job, and they’ll try their best to make it happen. Never any guarantees, but security forces is common.

jody so how does the army surgeon general one person read waivers in quantiles of the 1000s every year and approve some of them and and there's like 10000 people every year who apply for A WAIVER SO HOW DOES HE OR SHE SURGEON GERAL APROVE WAIVERS IN THESE SUCH LARGE QUANTIES

It really just depends on timing. Sometimes the job is readily available, sometimes not. Your best bet is to contact a recruiter and ask if that’s a common job currently

Please can someone help me! I’m going to Meps this Friday I don’t have a job list yet because my job options are limited as non US citizen, But the list of job I got from my recruiter do not interest me but I can do the medical which he said is not available. Do I insist on medical ? Also is it true that if you are a non us citizen after tech school you cannot be stationed abroad ?

I actually wanted to do it. Lol. That was a plan of mine, but once I got married and had kids, it just didn’t make sense. But if I had to do it all over again, I probably would’ve tried that career field or broadcast journalism.

My first job was electrical and environmental specialist. I worked on AC-130U aircraft as an electrician basically. My next job was geospatial intelligence. I basically looked at images and videos all day and made reports of what I saw in those images. Then I went on to become a recruiter. I recruited in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Now I’m a recruiting instructor. I teach the new recruiters how to recruit. 🤙🏽

If you’re trying to utilize your education when joining, you’d need to reach out to an officer accessions recruiter and see if they can use your degree. That’ll be the first place I’d start.

@@Jodywithawhy Ok I got a 56 on my asvab but Ive been thinking about retaking it because I want to get the cyber position my friend told me that I can do 2 years and change my job. Is that true? If so do you think I should retake or just wait 2 years for that position and retake the asvab through the airforce?

Yes admin can be stationed anywhere. As far as the ASVAB, I’d recommend keeping your score. Those are great scores. You can cross train at last year mark of your contract, or if you look into critically manned jobs you can cross train the halfway mark of your contract. I hope that helps.

Hey Jody. I’ve got a question for you. Does foreign degree disqualify me from joining the Air Force or become an Air Force officer? I’m in the pre-qualification process. My recruiter just disqualified me for that. But I heard if I have my degree evaluated here, it will be OK. So…. What do you think? Thanks.

If you do, you can get your education validated by Naces.org and if they equate your education to a bachelors, it wouldn’t matter if it was from a foreign institution or not.
