I live in a rule town like it's barely a town. it's considered a hamlet. I wear Lolita/Ouji and had only wore them at festivals and cons, so in the summer, I tried to casually wear them, and the number of little kids that told me I was beautiful or that asked if I was a princess made me very happy and to have a fellow Lolita I had never even known was in my small town compliment me was a real boost. I am awkward with accessories, still the bows, the gloves, and plush bags I've had some of my family pick at me about it because I'm an adult, not a child and I shouldn't "dress like a child." Or "grow up. " My little is sister great, and so is my dad, who genuinely think they are cute, and even give feed back which is so nice.
This video is everything!! You summarized my feelings so well in the very beginning. I was heavily bullied in school for being autistic, as in constantly being punished for being weird as if it was a conscious choice of me to "not be normal". I found alternative japanese fashion as a child and started out trying decora at 10 and it quickly became, for me, a way to morph the weirdness others saw in me into something physical. It was me taking control over others perception of me and turning it into armor, which was THE most powerful thing imaginable. Visual kei has been my main thing since age 14 now, but I've delved into oshare, lolita, cybergoth, gyaru and such on the side as well, and even after having taken an involuntary few years long break due to health issues I've still always retained that spine I built thanks to j-fashion. I've never been able to perceive other people staring at me, even when others tell me they are, and I've never cared about how others think I should or should not do things. Everyone in my tiny little old village learned that there was no way to make me care about their opinion, so why would a bunch of strangers I don't know fare any better? At the end of the day, we only live once, so why deprive ourselves over opinions others *might* have? Since I'm dipping my toes back into the fashion again, my biggest challenge has definitely been to feel confident in sweet. Not because I feel any discomfort over myself... but rather that I've spent all these years doing visual kei, elegant gothic aristocrat and even gothic lolita, that I'm so unused to coordinate any outfit that's not 90% all black 😅 all the more reason to practice! Again, wonderful video, super glad I found your channel. Between the seasonal dressing tips, discussions of altering brand and being a plus size lolita amongst others you really bring up important and interesting topics that really summarizes why these fashions are so special. It's a special feeling of having such a strong connection to people all over the globe through beautiful clothes!

Jumping from main piece to main piece is something I can relate to 😅I got some pieces from 2020 to 2023 and ended up selling most of them after noticing that I wasn't comfortable with most of them. They were beautiful pieces, but they weren't the kind of pieces I wanted to wear over and over again.
Thank you so much for mentioning the photo editing thing! Honestly the level of filtering/photoshopping in lolita fashion spaces on the internet right now is kind of scary, and I feel like it's becoming more and more normalised..... like, just because that's the level of photoshop that's 'normal' for taobao listings etc doesn't mean seeing it all the time isn't harmful to the way we see ourselves! For me I've found that browsing through old GLB street snaps is my favourite antidote to this feeling of having to look 'perfect'. Iconic looks on people who actually look like the people I see walking down the street!
Yes I totally love street snaps for that reason! I can understand a bit of filters & edits to adjust for a nicer picture, but when people start editing their features and become unrecognizable its a bit scary at that point... 😬 Thank you so much for watching!
A lot of what you said really resonated with me in terms of lolita fashion having a positive impact on self-confidence. I'm a standout person your right in about that. I wear the fashion and don't worry about others opinions of views about me. My family their okay with it. My friends their okay with it. Some stranger gave me good comments. But people think just wear the fashion your seeing attention and it not true your not seeking attention from society, it can catch someone eyes like the town I live in none beside me wear it. I have friends who are starting of learning the fashion themselves and ofcourse I won't be the only one in town wear it.
This was such a wonderful video! I loved your honesty and how specific you were with your advice. I wore lolita outside for the first time recently and it was an amazing experience, but I definitely had to psych myself up beforehand lol. I agree that it helps to work up to wearing a full coord in public by having a coat or outer layer to put over the top, that was something that really helped me 👍
This was a fantastic video! Lolita fashion has absolutely helped boost my self confidence and overcome social anxiety, even though I still struggle at times. For me, lolita fashion is a visual representation of the things that I like about myself, and it forces me to unashamedly embrace those things when I wear it. Also, the whole discussion about styling is so relatable!
