After thinking about this...it would depend if your trolling motor has I pilot link or just I pilot. Regular I pilot allows you to control steering wirelessly. I pilot link trolling motors actually sync to your electronic maps.

Yup, just attached the jug with a heavy duty zip tie.

What kinda of jug did you use (link if possible)? and how well do they hold up after awhile?

So far they have held up well. I have around 20 brush piles from last summer that are still intact a year later using these jugs. Before that I used laundry detergent jugs, those work well too.
