How to Find Distance Between Two Points Using Pythagorean Theorem

How do you find the distance between two points? We have a formula for it, called the distance formula, which is effectively a result of the Pythagorean theorem. In today's math lesson, we will go over how to find distance between two points using the Pythagorean theorem. All it takes is a rectangle, some right triangles, and some subtraction, I hope you enjoy!

I want to know the distance between two points given in x1, y1, z1 And x2, y2, z2 Do I subtract all of them, square each one then add them all up and take the square root of that final number?

You basically just did the distance formula before using thereueum

my teacher assigned some of these problems but with straight lines and told me not to make a right triangle but still use the theorem. how would I go about doing that?

Thanks for watching! I’m not positive I understand the question. Do you mean you’re supposed to find the length of a line segment, as in the distance between the endpoints, using this same method but without drawing a triangle?

This was really cool. I’m an adult Ed teacher and I primarily teach math and because I was such a poor math student in high school I’ve had to go back to re learn these concepts well enough to teach them. I haven’t taught this lesson and I’ve been so nervous to teach because I didn’t want to to confuse my students but this video helped me a lot thank you.
