Fatwood lying on the ground in the woods absorbs lots of moisture especially after 4 days of rain like we just had. With proper processing though, it will still ignite rather easily. Let me show you its favorite hiding places, how to process it, and how to ignite it with BIC, Ferro Rod, and Empty BIC.

When I was a boy in the North Georgia foothills One of my jobs was to collect “lighter pine” to start the fireplace in the morning. Watching your videos brings back good memories of those days. Thanks for taking the time to make great videos.

Good Job well done 👏 For the novices, please Show how to collect, Store and prep lighter / Fat wood for carrying And use when traveling On foot. I like to make Tender balls with fat Wood shavings already Bundled in the middle. 👍

That’s not flint in a bic but a tiny ferro rod and if you hold it over your shaving and run the wheel backwards you can get a small pile of dust which helps ignite with a spark from lighter and. I think is an easier method I have successfully tested

Started with a 1 1/2 inch knife and an empty bic. That's not what you used. A fixed blade. Possibly a mora, hard to see, and a functioning Bic with open flame

Interesting stuff and some good advice. Here's some more good advice... NEVER go into the woods or the desert, for that matter, wearing shorts, tennis shoes, no hat, no matches, carrying no firearm and with cheap, flimsy knives. Bambi does NOT live there!!
