Is that where this rumor came from? I remember hearing of it in St. Louis in the early '90s, I kind of wondered if someone saw Boy and His Blob chocolate factory gameplay and misinterpreted it as Mario?

To be more specific, the Strategy Guide with the Chocolate Factory Rumor is titled, How to Win at Nintendo Games (1989) by Jeff Rovin. I read Rovin's books in my childhood, and I tried everything I could in pre-internet days to find the Chocolate Factory, LOL.

@@JoseHiggor Maybe for you and me, but for someone who is a skilled animator and never romhacked, he'd probably think the other way around. But I didn't mean from a difficulty standpoint, rather that it's nice to see something that is actually possible in-game

@@diegopinon5275 There are many level editors for SMB, the two most popular are SMButil and GreatEd. They have a graphical UI that let's you drag and drop level elements. SMButil actually emulates the game to display the level elements, but it's downside that you cannot add new objects but only change and move the existing ones, because it doesn't expand the ROM, you are stuck with the space you have. GreatEd, on the other hand, expands the ROM which lets you add as many new objects and levels as you want, but the downside is it doesn't emulate the game, so any other changes you make to the ROM won't be visible in it, and it breaks the ROM for all other editors by expanding it, plus it's quite glitchy.

it'd be so cool if there was a smb rom hack that made the game as expansive as the mario 64 b3113 rom hack minus the "ooo scary every copy is personalized!!! zoinks!!!" stuff, just a bunch of insane ways to get to levels that would lead to a map of how to get to every area being extremely convoluted
