How to find species density
Understanding the quadrat is easy now with quadrants explained. Students can learn the techniques of sampling with the quadrat. | CSEC Biology TCP
The quadrat is used to study stationary and slow moving organisms. It is effective in sampling or investigating ecosystems such as grasslands. Sampling with the quadrat will help you to determine the population size, frequency, density and distribution of an organism in the selected ecosystem.
The method of sampling with the quadrat and formula is outline in this video. There is also mention of size and type of quadrat in the video. Hence all interest will learn how to use the quadrat by watching this video. Interestingly the method/procedure is so well outlined, you will not need another video,
The video allows you to carry out virtual sampling and an example is also demonstrated in the video. To use as an experiment, just choose an organism by colour and a multiplier may also be used. Example 1 organism represents 15. There is also simulation of a real ecosystem with river, road, pollution, biotic and abiotic interaction, foot path and several different organisms.
I used it do do my ecological sampling and you can too, just watch the entire video, copy formulas and table then start over the video and count the selected organism in each throw.
This video is ideal for all CXC/CSEC Biology, Environmental Science and other persons studying ecosystem.

Every other thing explained was transparent enough but when it got to the count it was difficult for me to identify the organisms.

The Visuals in this video were hard to follow. Still unclear as to what was being counted at certain points. I did not benefit much from the video in terms of how to use the Quadrat. I believe an actual example where someone is using the quadrat and actually counting the species would have been more effective.

This video is used as a SBA video for CXC. the plant that was counted was one without colour. In the first throw it seems to be attached to the blue plant in the middle. Now that you know try the video again. Or try any colour and follow the procedure.
