It would be cool if you showed multiple map worlds and explained the resources and the reason you would set up there while showing the link between wormholes with drawn on lines. Something that could help visual learners since the amount of things you find when starting a new world can be a bit overwhelming to newer players.
New players mostly have their base near pig king because the most amount of food is there... After playing 1500 hours i don't really need to worry about food and therefore don't base there. Depending on how long i play on the server i mostly base next to McTusk base so that I am the first player that kills him in the winter. If i play on a 24/7h server then I always put my base right in the middle of the map, close to 1 wormhole and 1 cave entrance.
I love how this man keeps doing what he wants and not whats more trendy. This channel is a example of a nonn profit channel with awesome visuals. Keep going with that Quality!
I usually make a few mini bases in every important biome and a big one where I like it. So I can visit them and collect what I want when I want how much I want
Good Players that get to day 600 (80h IRL): Guys, I can explain! Relativly Okay Players: you get that far and I only get to day 80! Casual Players: 80?! I barely get past 40 days on average! My dumb butt: You guys are getting past half of autumn?
For me the most important factor in a base location is having access to as many biomes and resources as possible in a reasonably short distance, having to travel half way across the map to get to a stony biome or spider nests is a big issue for me (I know spider nests can be relocated, but having one already close to my base is much nicer than taking down a tier 3 spider nest to get the eggs)
I have around 400 hours of dont starve(together and solo), and I still having trouble to start a base :P, every base that I make doesnt fit to me Obs: Sorry for any mistakes in the text, Im still learning
For summer, I usually pré-craft a full base, take a few resources and food, and just set up in the oasis. I spend the whole first summer there, and usually deal with the antlion before the season ends
I’m on day 17, and I found like the PERFECT base for once. Glommer statue is really close, I have a herd of beefalos close by (in birch nut biome) and only two strayed into my base, so I used the horn to get them back. Pig king /pig village is a lil far, though there’s a path that leads to it, and close to a swamp. I think the downside is that I made it too close to the border so it’ll be annoying when penguls come.
Ow c'mon, Oasis and Decidious Forest are probably the favorite places of the community to base, which is for a good reason. I'd also add rabbit holes and moles to the list of static resources as you can only access them in savannas or various greenlands respectively, which makes savannas a great location for easy bunny and abundant grass, especially if there are also beefalos closeby for hound attacks and fur.
An optional but in my opinion quite useful factors are rabbits and beefalos. It is quite annoying to build up a farm if you have to travel a long distance to acquire manure. Just don't base right next to them or spring will end up being the most dangerous season...
You left out the part where Antlion creates Sinkholes if you don't kill her or feed her stones and trinkets every now and again. Sinkholes have cost me my base before and many other players I'm sure.
I never feed Antlion, dealing with her sinkholes is the easiest thing in this game. When you hear the eathquake like sound, just run away from your base. At this time you should have a walking cane, which help you get away even furhther before the sinkholes actually happens.
Other static resources of note are mushrooms (especially in the form of a mushroom ring, which gives 15 mushrooms), and, if you play Wendy, a graveyard for Pipspooks. Though, if you have other players who aren't also playing Wendy, definitely don't be _too_ close to the graveyard, for obvious reasons.
In my opinion, a pretty good area to base is the Deciduous Forest. It has mushrooms for sanity and health, Pig King, Glommer, Catcoons, lots of trees, and shade for Summer.
Hero the pilot Oasis is the FIRST thing i go for lol and then i make my real base outside where i can access everything better and make my summer and winter base in oasis
In my case swamp and dfly desert tends to spawn connected or close to oasis desert, so I base there for convenience. Pig king is often far away but like you say stocking on meat and trinkets for a single yearly trip works fine
Dude im crying right now I have two worm holes right next to pig king but when you go into them they lead to nowhere important.... Like the mossaic boime.
New players mostly have their base near pig king because the most amount of food is there... After playing 1500 hours i don't really need to worry about food and therefore don't base there. Depending on how long i play on the server i mostly base next to McTusk base so that I am the first player that kills him in the winter. If i play on a 24/7h server then I always put my base right in the middle of the map, close to 1 cave entrance and if I'm lucky close to a wormhole(s).
Build next to rabbit holes, if there are beefalos too its even better. Rabbit holes -> Beardlings -> Beard hair -> Meat Effigies -> Endless revive. But dont buld to close to the beefalos, cuz of mating season.
Wow this is quality content. Not much in the way of production frills, but well more than made up for with the sheer amount of information delivery. Sorry I'm late to the party, but thanks for the tips!
Good video. Stick to hard facts that are compared to each other to help find an semi unbiased theoretically "best" base location. I agree with most of the things said in this video. Though i base in interesting locations that i haven't tried before, (gives the game a new perspective in each run) this video is still a good watch!
Well, if u have two deserts in one then it's not such bad idea to build a camp on oasis biome. Such world happend to me, dragonfly desert and oasis biome desert next to each other or in one.
i once got blessed with a good base location... not too far from beefalo or pig king easy to access spelunk entrance Mactusk camp not too far swamp pretty far but still accesable
@@heidi7905 what?? MacTusk Camp is amazing for getting free meat, Hound's Teeth, Blue Gems, and most importantly, the Tam o' Shanter and Walrus Tusk for the Walking Cane.
Hi Razing Hel. Have you ever tried making Varg farms? I was able to trap one on the little peninsula, but i have no idea how to eliminate his hounds quickly. Build pig/bunnymen houses? Or houndius shootius?
I set a base right in front of a spider's den because i want easy silk and healing thing. Kinda regret it but actually it was fun fighting spiders when i have nothing's to do at night.
Tumble weeds make basing near the dragon fly dessert but not in it a good idea as having a tumble weed touch a magma pool and burn down your base isn’t fun. Now once you have the resources and schematic for ice flingos then it becomes ok.
How to get krampus sack on day 21 1. Kill Klaus 2. Save game then exit 3. GO back and open loot stash, 10% drop Krampus sack. 4. Rollback to previous save if you did not get the sack 5. Continue until get it
@HerreMeowCat "short attack range" the deer have fire & cold range attacks and in his second phase he lunges at you. Also he does 75 damage not 23. However Kiting Klaus himself isn't that hard like you said
My world spawned the oasis in the middle of the desert, miles away from anything useful. Thus I was baffled at that tip that the oasis was the best basing spot
this is the 2nd youtuber that says basing in the oasis is bad, but i cant stand summer, so i just sit it out fishing in the pond to get 2 years worth of gold and plenty of fishing supplies. and for the cave basing idea, to me it seems like a waste of resource and id rather go to the caves whenever i feel like, not just when its summer. everything can be relocated in the oasys and what you would want from tumbleweeds can be mostly gotten in the pond anyway. apart from the odd gear and gems which can be gotten though other means.
In my personal opinion, there's no crucial point in putting your base near any static resources because you could just take a day to get there and take a bunch of resources, i always just put my base near beefalo and it always worked for me.
If it takes more than a day to get to an important biome, maybe consider moving your base closer to there. You can base anywhere you want, but it is good to know what you should prioritize.
I wouldn’t recommend making a base in the caves because you slowly lose sanity down there. Unless you have a flower farm, or a good way to restore sanity, then your good. But since the underground is unlike the over world. In the underworld there aren’t giant grass biomes with beefalo. BUT if you do base near some cave exits, then you could technically survive if you farm the materials
@@neyl8400 They give plenty of meat & manure for fertilisation and their horn and fur can be used to craft the best head insulator. They are also good for defending against big hound waves.
You can get meat from volt goats, manure from werepigs, hounds can be killed easily without beefalos and tbh the insulation isn’t that good, I survive my winters with fashion melons anyways but you can clearly just hunt down a Beefalo, get the loot and go back to your base
I'm aware there's other ways but I personally find Beefalo to be the most viable because its less time consuming then chasing volt goats. Werepigs are a better source for manure but beef manure is easier for early game. Also didn't they patch the Fashion Melon in DST so it no longer stops freezing?
How rare is Dragon Fly Desert? I never found any. That's my problem with the game, I dont have time to explore, when the world starts I need to prepare to winter quickly, and after it starts I dont do anything, I just survives, staying at the base, doing nothing because I need to worry about my sanity and hunger all the time.
Just walk around the chore and pick 12 gold, a stack of twigs, grass and reeds, rocks, logs, gears, pinecones, drop a science machine somewhere and make a backpack. Once you map all the coast, arrive to dragonfly desert, cut the burned trees for coal and build -crockpot -alchemy -bird cage -campfire -fridge -lightning rod You are good to go for winter, use hounds for meat and cactus for meatballs/sanity all year long.
Thank you for making this great video, I can finally survive and not... starve, that did not sound as good as I thought it would. Still great video though, thanks!
nop, reeds can't be shoveled. wich, while disapointing, kinda make sens, as he said it's an extremly precious ressource so having to fight through the dangerous swamp biom (unless you're wurt lol) to obtain them seems fair (+wicker bottom is already strong enough, imagine if we could have a reed farm anywhere at our base)
Well there is a mod on steam (dunno about other platforms) that allows you to dig reeds. You just need to also move some swamp turf with pitchfork to be able to replant them.
I don't care what razinghel says.. I still love basing in the oasis biom.. try playing on a public server.. people will always forget to refill the flingo during summer..
Yeah that's why I love basing in the oasis.. griefers also has problems with sand during summer.. additional protection from those kinda players.. plus you look bad ass living in the sand
Thanks for the replies, but I play with friends and we need lots of food. I guess the second year we could move our base from grassland/beefalo to somewhere even better
ZiNG You can feed a lot of people just using bacon and eggs. 4 tier three spider dens give you 4x9x0.5 = 18 monster meats per day, which mean 6 bacon and eggs per day or 6 people. One boomerang give you 5 morsels too. Plant more spider dens if needed. Farming spiders is so easy if one of you is Webber or Wendy
birds are stupid enough to fall in bird trap without bait just make around 5 to 10 bird traps and you will get almost half trap activated every day. Remember that you can cook a bird alive and it gives cooked meat 100% of the time instead of killing them which only has 50%. If you keep farming spider you will not have problem creating the traps and you will always have monster food.
Sorry to break it to you but beefalo are not that great be cuz in heat season or spring to be exact they become agro to players and anything so if you have beefalos in the heart of your base there’s a 75% of you dying to them in spring, they are good in autumn and winter other then those seasons you are dead my good RU-vid friend
@@T3KC that's why you don't base on top of the Beefalo but a short stretch away. Whenever they're not in heat you can make the rounds and collect an easy 2 stacks of manure in half a day.
