1:36 You said axis of symmetry. I think you meant to say directrix. An axis of symmetry would be slicing vertically through the vertex and the focus all the way down and up.

I needed a refresher. Thanks. I think you need to specify when calculate p that the sign gets lost. You have -1/8 = 1 /4*p and you say p equals 2. I think there is an absolute value somewhere?

oh ya. the parabola opens down and so the focus is two down from the vertex. that is a bad habit of mine. there is no absolute value

LOL.... you would have to guess. The more drinks.... the easier it becomes. Sadly I was sober in this one. I remember making it. Although I am hoping to do better.

Thanks for the comment. You are exactly correct. It is a directrix and not axis of symmetry. Taping at night after midnight.... not always a good idea.

WHATELSEYOUWANT GAMING p can be any real number. Typically we start with easy ones where p =1. For instance the lense on a human eye is a parabola. And because the focus of that lense is the back of the eye... the p value for the human eye would be about 24.2 mm thus making an approximate quadratic equation for the curve of our lense y=1/(4*24.2)x^2 Y=1/96.8 x^2

if k value is zero the vertex of the parabola is on the x axis

directrix is -p at around 4:50 I show it. the axis of symmetry is vertical line through vertex always
