If you need help with finding the 1 when you're listening to the salsa rhythm, practice listening to this song.
Count out loud when you watch the video... Then look away from the screen and listen. Test your self, and see if you are getting it.
Pay attention to what instruments make a sound on which number, and what patterns repeat themselves.
Getting used to the salsa rhythm takes time, and it's something that gets better with practice!

This is what I've been needing for a long time. Dancing in a class when someone is calling out the beat is one thing, but for someone who has listened to and played 4/4 music for decades, finding the beat where there is no kick/snare was very problematic. Thanks!!

Such an underrated video!! Bachata, hip hop, rap, techno kizomba, house, Reggae, etc. Salsa is the only one I could never find the beat.

thanks so much. This is great. Could you do a couple of songs like this. Finding the beat is killing me. Songs with slow medium and fast rhythms. Want to start going to the salsa clubs in Colombia and am having a hard time syncing with the beat.

it is easy the music salsa follow pop but very difficult when listen the music salsa with piano, tumbao (congo drums) , clave and another....

But you're still tapping pretty much ON 3 & 7, which means it's not 'slow'. The footwork timing is 3& and 7&

The beat, the clave, unfortunately I only heard the beat from step 3 and 7. Sometimes I also hear from step 2, but very rare

Try to differentiate the different instrument in the background. They usually form background beats that change periodically.

If you notice well, when a new instrument is introduced or changes, you know that we start back from 1. Usually, in that song each instrument stays for around 16 or 24 counts

Actually if you're talking about the salsa basic footwork, It's Slow quick slow, slow quick slow. The step-throughs take more time (1.5 beats) The 'quicks' are where you just change weight.

It's a common but actually erroneous way of teaching salsa footwork. Even by its own model it's wrong. It should be slow quick slow, slow quick slow. The part where you simply change weight is quick, while stepping through is slow. Sort of. The timing of salsa steps is actually 1 2 3& 5 6 7& (1)
