This is a great example of how a RU-vid video should be presented. Relaxed presentation, simple language and explanations for all non-electricians. I am a fan.
Thank you for taking the time to make this video, car electrics are not my strong point, so watching this gave me the knowledge and confidence to wire up a live feed for my trailers smart relay.
@@TheC15jon *That's not true.* The "front" one is for the original fuse if you are tapping into a slot that initially had a fuse. The "back" slot is for the device you are connecting to the fuse tap. The "far" leg of the fuse tap MUST go to the hot connector. Secondly, if you are tapping into a slot that already had a fuse, the original fuse has to be higher amperage than the new fuse. Last but not least, never tap into "important" fuses, like airbags, etc. Use something like fog light instead.
I've set my multimeter up exactly the same way as you have shown and I am getting no readings whatsoever with the ignition either on or off. What the hell is going on?
Thanks so much!!! 👍👍 Not used a multimeter before. I've been looking at dashcam installation vids. And, the only thing I couldn't figure-out was where to place the other black cable when testing. So, now, I obviously do. And, also now know another alias for the fuse tap cable/piggyback. 😀
Bhaiya tata tigor petrol engine- car achanak band ho gayi uske baad cluster ki light, ignition light, dashboard light, cabin light, hand break light, parking light, koi bhi power supply cabin ke andar nahi aa raha, engine start bhi nahi ho raha battery full charge hai, dusara battry bhi laga kar dekh liya . car cabin engine cabin dono ka sabhi fuse , sabhi relay multimeter se check kar liya sab sahi hai, problem solve nahi hua. car road par khadi hai corona lockdown me koi machanic nahi mil raha .plz help me
hi your verry nice explintion.. i just asking how to find ignition wire if only trigger by unlock door 12 volts will apear.. on toyota highbrid 2019.. thank you so much sir
^^This. You need to use the voltmeter to determine which fuse slot is the positive and negative side. If you put the tap in backwards it will bypass the fuse and there will be nothing stopping overpowering what you have plugged in.
@@diamondheat9 well, not quite... think about how the "add-a-fuse" is actually configured internally. The circuits will be protected (both) but the original fuse will carry both its design current plus the additional circuit current if the installation is backwards.
Hey I have a 04 GMC Sierra crew cab and I brought a 400amp alternator cause I'm going to put some shit in my truck any way the harnest that came with the alternator has a long blue wire that says pigtail to ignition source in run position my question is can I do what you did in this video
Hi I’m thinking to use this method for my DVD player head rest because this doesn’t have memory cable so when I turn the key off position movie start again so if I do this can kill my battery thanks?
Is there a difference between fuses that become live after turning the key vs actually starting the car? My DRL lights come on after starting the engine, but Im finding fuses that become live after just turning the key..
What about making sure that the piggyback fuse holder is inserted the right way round? i.e. AFTER the fuse going to the outlet wire and NOT on the positive end of the fuse?
Hi , I know it's late . But are you saying that you could test the "live" side by using the device to see if it turns on without any fuses attached instead of using a multimeter?
I need a switched live on an audi a4 b6. I've heard the heating fan is the one to piggy back off but it's only 10 amp. The radio is 20 amp. Can I run off this putting two ten amps in line or will I need need a ten amp and a 20 amp? Will there be enough power? Thanks
Hi Craig, I elaborated a little bit more on another video I did. If you skip to 3:58, I think it will answer your question ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-asjq85p4W4o.html
Im putting in LED strip lights in the toolbox on the back of my ute. This is a great way to get +12v but what about my negative? If I connect the negative coming from the lights to some metal of the chasis will this complete the circuit or am I gonna blow something?
Yeah you can use if for a dash cam with a permanent live. A regular car battery would be able to power a dash cam for weeks without it being recharged.
Great video dude, I want also to know how to find the "Ignition Start" wire? You see, when I don't have a service manual nor the owners manual since my car is a 2nd Hand Nissan Patrol GU, but I need to connect something to the "Ignition Start" wire is it possible to test it using the same way as you did?
Sorry if this sounds like a dumb reply. Is there any particular reason that you need to connect to an ignition wire instead of an ignition live from the fuse box ?
Actually, I'm not replying, I'M ASKING... THAT'S A BIG DIFFERENCE. You see, I need the "Start or Cranking wire" which is the switch pass the ACC? these are the sequences on the car keys right (OFF-->ACC-->ON-->START or CRANKING) I need the cranking power instead of the ACC. In the cranking mode, it's only supplied when the key is on START position, after you release it, it will turn off. That's what I need.
The reason why I need the "Cranking 12V Power" instead of the 12V constant as in the ACC is because I need it to turn on a RELAY, which will turn -On the "Transponder Chip Module" that I created so that the transponder module will have only power when I crank the car, and turns off automatically when I released the key or when the car has started already. In short, I'm making a Transponder Bypass, and I need the cranking power to power it instead of the ACC power which is constantly ON.
Yes I was replying to what you was asking. Hence my “sorry if this sounds like a dumb reply”. I was talking about me, not you. I never said you was replying. On to your question. I’m not an electronics expert but I would imagine it would work a little bit like this. The ignition barrel is essentially a switch. So the ACC position would be like a toggle switch (on/off) and the cranking position would be like a push switch (it’s only on as long as you’re pushing the button down. ). I imagine you would be able to splice into the wire coming from the back of the ignition barrel and run an in-line fuse from it. If you wanted to trace where the wire ran so you could tap into it in a more appropriate location, you could use the continuity feature on a multimeter. How much amps does this transponder need ?
It's OK buddy, I already found a Service Manual for my car, and I think it's a Yellow/Black on a Nissan. By the way, I applied your tuts-video on my Front Camera monitor since they needed a constant 12 volt power, great thanks for the vids.
Im adding fog lights to my truck using the existing wiring harnesses. Can't I just tap into the lights port on the fuse box to add the toggle switch to turn them on and off?
Yes it does!! One way it bypasses all the fuses. And the other way power passes through both the fuses. Also. If you have empty slots like I see in this video. I would check those first and use them over “piggybacking “ Just sayin.. Larry
@@mafosa8519 you're right! Make sure the piggyback is placed in the right direction {on the HOT side of fuse) to allow current to flow through the fuse and not straight through. Very important!
Every fuse has a number on it representing the capacity of the fuse in amps. If this number is upside down, the electricity can get confused and flow the wrong way. Make sure all the numbers on all the fuses are facing in the proper direction.
No power to ignition, fusses are ok on battery and in engine and fascia boxes, earth volt drops good, found no power to ignition switch, drives perfect by temporary live from fuse box... please advice what is the issue here and what could be the solution ?
hi i have mercedes 2015 gle there is pasenger side fuse box but all seems constant ? i headr there is witched fuse delay system as well ? is it true? thank you
If you are struggling to plug both your multimeter leads into the correct socket on your new tester here is a tip - you can " bed-in " your tester by selecting a current range on the rotary switch and putting one lead on each of your cars battery terminals. The meter will make a light "pop" to confirm all is well .
Title should be.. how to burn out your car...check where is the Supply and Load... If you place incorrectly and when a fuse blown out it will start a fire
you are a little wrong.you have to find the in and out terminal of the fuse box, so you know witch way to insert your piggyback fuse tap. if you insert it the wrong way, the fuse will not blow, and could fry something.
Ive never seen wiring done like before. Think I would rather splice into the wire that runs to the fuse from behind 2 screws and the fuse box can be lowered for acess Sorry your way is the easiest but not the prettiest girl at the party
