Ive been in pain for 2 years doc said plantar fascia but its my ankle is always swollen to the point after work i almost fall i know something else is wrong
@@Jtevkicksandcards try and get some insoles for your shoes for people who are on their feet all day. You can easily get some off of Amazon for 25-30 bucks. I have a large foot (14 US) and I have problems with my feet aswell, I'm flat footed and have weak ankles. I ordered a pair of insoles that specifically site the need for my feet, and they work perfectly. If you haven't tried getting a pair of insoles for your shoes that directly help with the issue you're having then I suggest you try getting a pair.
Thank you for the video. I find the best system to measure your foot is to stand against a straight wall with heel touching the wall and to put a piece of a4 paper under the foot and trace your foot on that piece a paper. Then use a measuring tape to measure the longest toe to heel. That will give you the size in cms. Then when ordering shoes look for the size in cms (japan uses this system) and see if it matches up to your size. Because a size 7 US female for Nike may be 23.5 cm for example and a size 7 for Addidas may be 24 cm, etc…the companies run different sizes against cm. The cm seem more consistent.
That’s the true size mid heel to big toe - it’s just weird how a lot of sizing doesn’t go off of that- I’ve always wondered why there isn’t a standard system universally- it would encourage more people to buy different varieties of shoes if they could be confident of their size
I am now just seeing this video Branick put me at 10.5. I tried 10.5 for bball shoes in Nike and WoW ,then I tried 11 but even then my toes would push the top of the shoes on impact when I dunked or slammed 10ft line in Vball. I went up to 11.5 and found I had adequate space and even produced more power in movement and jump overall.
Accurate video. My shoe size according to the brannock device would be like a 7 or 7.5 mens but most shoes I need to get a size 8 or else my pinky toe will rub against the side of the shoe and it's very uncomfortable. So I just have to have a little extra toe room to accommodate my wider feet
Another awesome video like always. I measured my foot with the brannock device recently and surprisingly the ASICS Court FF shoes fit my shoes like a glove unlike other brands. Can you please do a video on tennis shoes lacing? I heard certain foot type require different lacing.
Wish this came out years ago. After decade plus of knee pain, back pain, pf, metatarsal pain, i found out i should go up 3 SIZES. I have short but relatively wide feet and a very high midfoot. Spent so much on therapy, sleeves, insoles, shoes etc By chance i received big Ultraboosts as a gift and that’s when i found out ive been measuring wrong. Now that i use the right size, no pain no accessories. Just needed the shank a little forward and not bend my metatarsals.
Also need to note the shoe material. Real Leather when used will stretch a bit but I find the shoes now use a plastic coated leather and it does not stretch at all. Or the have soft cloth which will stretch or a firm nylon mesh which does not. This will alter how a shoe fits and the comfort you will have
This is probably your best video yet - very handy tips! When I buy tennis shoes I usually go half a size larger so I have an index finger worth of wriggle room and so I have enough room to wear thicker socks. Just curious to know if this is actually bad for my feet?
This is extremely valuable information. I did the instructions and compared the cutout to pictures of shoes that I previously tried, and it all makes sense now! I predict this will be an extremely popular video! Especially now with the pandemic and people shopping more online.
thanks for the great info, most shoe reviewer tend to ignore shape and just go state the basic length & if they are wide or narrow footed and not mention shape at all.
I wish these companies will measure them from the inside. It would make it a lot easier to buy. My bare foot size in 10. So 11 to have some room. But I wear a 13 4e. I have to try on like 20 pairs before I find one that fits. Even in the same brand, sizes are different. My last couple new balance fit perfect the first time. So I'm sticking with that brand. Makes it easier to by online.
very few manufacturers make foot shaped shoes, especially the toe box. my feet are widest at the tip of the toes, shoes are widest at the ball of the foot... 🤷♂️
I played tennis in college and in my normal size in most athletic shoes including Nike I have a thumb nail space between my toes and the front of the shoe. My Nike shoes for tennis are a whole size smaller. This is because with all of the starting and stopping, I want a shoe that fits like a glove so I don’t slide around in them. Sliding around in the shoes can cause blisters, cause you to roll and ankle and you are going to just be slower moving around. Many tennis players do this including Rafael Nadal.
I just bought some walking boots today as needed something comfy for work as I'm stood for 8+ hours and I wear boots for general use as well. They were good though as where I went they took the time to place my feet next to the shoes to see how it would fit to the shoes and also show the correct way to wear and tie them up which sounds simple but I actually learned a few things and I've been wearing boots for years.
Yeah I've had my feet professionally measured for Custom shoes They are size 14.5 Mens Went to a store in town, used a branch device the guy brings out a size 13(4e) Which I really didn't understand
It's not that simple. Not everyone is lucky enough to be near a store that actually carries the shoe they're interested in. Some of these are more unique or most stock is available online only. And these different shoes fit people differently sometimes than their regular shoes. Stores just don't have the room to put out every specific volleyball or basketball shoe that these manufacturers make.
I find most Nike run narrow and New Balance run correct (D width) So the shape of the sole and shoe design may change what shoe size to try on. Correct is if you have the normal foot shape.
@@danc2014 I am saying that the Brannock will give you the correct size if you use the socks you intend to use with the athletic shoe. If one measures without socks or thin socks they're going to get a smaller size, up to a whole size smaller. It seems like a "no-brainer" but I've seen people make that mistake when sizing and buying shoes. Also a Brannock tells more than just about foot length and width, it has an arch length measurement slider for people with longer or shorter toes. Sometimes people have feet that gives them a 10 in length but their toes are longer so their arch length is shorter or vice versa. Also, most people have slightly different foot shapes and sizes, so it's good to know what is what when buying, especially when you look at shoes online. Some shoes, you can just see them from their construction that they just won't work for you, for example if you have a wide mid foot but you see a hard TPU shell in the mid foot of the shoe that looks narrow versus a foam mid foot that can break-in and give a little to the shape of your foot.
Thanks for the video. My Foot length is 9 inches or 22.8 cm long and my ball girth is 22 cm. Most of my sneakers and running shoes are US7. But there's a case that I also buy US 8 if it's from Keds. And sometimes, I can also fit in size 5.5 to 6.5 in other shoes like Aldo sneakers. This year, I'm planning to buy dr martens jadons. Some told me to size down and some told me to stay on my usual US7 s8ze.🤔
The Brannock device assumes that feet are wbidest across the balls, but mine are widest at the ends of the toes. No standard shoes leave room for my toes.
Amazing video once again. Great tips and info as always. As a fellow C shaped footer, which tennis shoes would you recommend? We also have the same widest spot on foot.
Not having the half size available in my country India is the biggest problem we're facing. We can only go for 1 size bigger or 1 size smaller cos there's no ½ half size available in my country. My true fitting size is uk-7.5 but I can't find half size anywhere, no matter what brand i search. So i always have to go for 1 size bigger "uk-8" cos that's the only size i can go for. But not all the shoes size are same tho. Like nike air force 1's are a bit wide so it's compactable with my wide feet. But nike air max 90's are really narrow. I thought if i take air max 90's the same size as my air force 1's which is uk-7 it'll fit perfectly but it's tight around the corner of my small toe side just like your feet. So i had to exchange it to 1 size bigger which is just a little bit big for my feet that's all. But it fits well enough to wear comfortably rather than struggling with tight shoes .
Good video - but those shoes are always much longer than your footprint - so where exactly does your foot sit inside the shoe? So for example, I mostly wear (unhappily) a size 10 shoe - but a size 8 running sandal. When I put shoes on my feet (as opposed to sandals) , I feel like I have just put on a pair of skis - they are far too long and too much shoe.
Hey man I enjoy your videos a lot. You have a wealth of knowledge around the foot and its mechanics. I have NEVER had good success with shoes that have a lot of cushioning or inserts in them. About a year ago I switched to 0 drop shoes and have noticed a world of a difference in terms of stability, strength and manuervability but I have this nagging heel bone pain (calcaneus I think). I tried playing in a pair of New Balance Omn1s which were awesome (I got the wide version) but I unfortunately sprained my ankle about a month ago and just got back into the gym this week with my 0 drop shoes and had no issues or feeling like I would roll my ankle. The only problem I have had with these type of shoes is that nagging heel bone pain which I'm sure is from the lack of shock absorption. What would be your best recommendation for someone with a shorter, wide mid-foot and a pretty non-existent arch?
@@FootDoctorZach Figured as much but ty for the response. I actually just purchased the Harden 6 after watching one of your reviews and a few other bigger youtubers reviews. Hoping all goes well with those.
@@FootDoctorZach update: so I used my newly bought basketball shoes (harden vol. 4) for the first time and for the first 15 minutes using them my feet hurt (particularly my right foot). But after a while they don't hurt anymore as much. Is it normal?
Havent even started the video and liked right away! ....uuuf!! Brilliant topic Zack! Update: Just watched the whole vid! Great great video man! Would love to see a review of yours on the NB Lav 2 . I knew you sized up for wide feet, #strongfeetteam here, like Rog haha
Haha awesome im glad you liked it! I actually have a pair in the wides ill be doing a clay cleaning video with so I can touch on that in a short or something similar
@@FootDoctorZach Nice! Have you tried the 10.5 2E, and the 11.0 2E? I remember I loved the Vapor X...but the Wide version never came to my country, wide version offering is heavily underrated imho...they allow better mechanics and feel of the ground
Hey Doc, I'm having a hard time figuring out my true to size fit. I measure at 9.5C on the brannock device. It's has a the tiniest bit of an outswing. Am I a 10 or 10.5 ?
I have about 18 pairs of shoes and only 5 of them fit comfortably, some of them are eu 44.5 and fit perfectly ,some eu 45 don’t fit, some eu 46 and fits well . They are either way too big or small ,it’s really frustrating.
I just dont get why thay cant say, for instance...measure the insole, it should have xxxxx cm more than your longest foot...as they do on running shoes videos...foot shape? try to find out of the us wide sizes, or a "branok device"...
I think it would be cool if shoes had volumetric internal space specifications. I feel like the toe box of the Asics Soln Spd ff 2 would be a bit smaller than the ff 1, and aimed to please the Gel Res 7 crowd who are swamped in the 8. Toe box stretch would be a good now - I’m installing my worn insoles to get me some space initially. I am generally unwilling to err on the side of too big for tennis. The one time I did, something bad happened. But I’m also not willing to wear a Cage that’s an entire size too small either. If my footwork were that good - I might consider! Keep up the awesome site! I’d go to the Court ff, but I had the #1 with the bootie and it was too much pressure atop the foot.
Every so often when I run after drop shots, i smash my second toe into the front of my shoe and it bruises the nail. Does this mean my shoe is too big?
I wear running shoes that feel very fit, but I only use them for walking and they are half size smaller . Should I get basketball shoes that are the same size or should I get bigger shoes to account for expanding feet after running and jumping?
hey on every branic device ive tried im always a 10-10 1/2 and my feet measured are 10.5inches and 10.3 inches but in basketball shoes I find when i go true to size I have room in the toe box of the shoe and im sliding forward in them, Whenever I play in 8.5/size 9 shoes they fit perfectly with some size 9 shoes fitting a little big which is surprising to me because I dont understand why, I always have sizing issues with shoes no matter the brand but I dont understand my true size. any recommendations?
Awesome video. From a guy that researches my shoes and certainly my court shoes a hell of a lot, this short video is absolutely fantastic. I knew a lot of what you said already but some of the tips , such as taking a pic on my phone of my foot shape cutout and then stencil from my phone screen, unbelievable. Why did I never think of that. I follow lots of people on RU-vid from gadget reviewers , to physical therapists, to shoe reviewers, and I have to say , despite only discovering you in recent weeks, I think you're my favourite. You're reviews are top class , full of all the relevant info and presented very professionally. Well done and keep it up. Big big fan here in Ireland. 👍
If i go size up the shoes will be too long and my toe keep hitting ground while walking. My sport shoes always narrow at middle. But my boot doing just fine. But they same size.
Damn I just realized what break in means , i thought the shoe takes the shape of foot after sometime but it's the other way around instead omg did not know that.. 😳
I noticed you said you recommend going up half a size from your regular fit for court shoes. Lets say I'm not really even sure what my regular shoe size is. Exactly how much extra space do you think I should have for my toes?
So e will not follow the sizeing chart of nike? So if my feet measured 26.5 i will wear a 28.5 or 27.5? Its really confusing. If nike already made a sizeing chart
Hey Zach, whats up man!! This is the first video but your awesome energy had me with the Hey whats up!! Keep it up Doc, i thought i bought shoes too big but nope. thanks man easy subscribed!!!
Unfortunately shoe companies do not make shoes for my “real shoe size” The closest I can get is 5.5 4E, I need wider. We call up the shoe companies and they tell us “we don’t do that no more”, or we only do color customization. I’d need a custom athletic shoe, to my measurements. Adidas told my dad, “I cannot answer that” when he asked “how do these people find shoes?” on the telephone. My foot is small and very wide. I have a genetic condition that affected my bone growth.
@@FootDoctorZach yup, unfortunately my feet are too small and too wide for any of new balance’s wider sizes. I have a genetic condition that affected bone growth. I could send a pic of my feet for context in an email if that would help with any suggestions.
Do you by any chance have an opinion on boot size for rollerblades and ice skates? The “right” size per the size charts feel a bit tight in the toes for me. But the next size up is too loose, ankle and heel don’t get locked down enough.
Depends on the shoe- wider shoes usually I go 1/2 more narrow maybe 1 size up but going one whole size up can be a lot of shoe if it runs long- comes down to shape of the shoe vs your foot
For Jordan's (dressy not basketball like Westbrook, Luka, etc..) do they fit true to size? For ex. For basketball shoes I wear size 10 and regular shoes 9.5, so for dressy jordan shoes I'd go 9.5?
nice tips! Doc, do you know why my toe nails always get black when I wear my basketball shoes? this has been a recurring problem since I started playing basketball at the age of 9. is it because I'm wearing shoes that are too big? too tight? my toe nails fall off after a few months and the cycle repeats itself. so much pain 😢
It could just be you have weak nail roots - black nails also happen from too big or too small shoes - I have a TikTok on this actually that you can check out where I show how to help this condition out- this isn’t medical advice and im not advising you to do this but i permanently remove a lot of toe nails in athletes with this condition every year that can’t fix it by shoe modification
