Advice: Don't listen to fragrance reviewers when they say "too many people wear this fragrance". Most people don't wear fragrances at all. There's a 99% chance you'll be the only guy wearing a fragrance when you enter a room. Always visit a fragrance store in person and smell a fragrance before yo buy it. Wear whatever you like!
They refer to people wearing fragrances. Obviously not people who don’t wear fragrances. They’re generally correct in regards to designer frags being worn by a majority of people that wear fragrances. That’s backed by global sales or those that own the frags on sites like fragrantica. +1 on not blind buying.
@@qqpp4 If you're referring to me, no. Right now, my current rotation is Morning chess, Nishane Ani, Musc Ravageur, Poem of Damas, Ivory Route and Amouage Reflection. Even if I was a sauvage user, what of it?
@@krm5693 they try to make the point that people will find you generic if you buy something that most fragrance people buy, but the reality is that most people won't ever be able to tell what fragrance you're wearing unless they're heavily into fragrance as a hobby. I've been into fragrance for like two years and I've only twice come across fragrances I can recognize, and they were both dior sauvage. My nose isn't very good, but even if it were, people who can recognize fragrances are a tiny minority
You're right about the personalized thing I don't like gatekeeping, but buying fragrances that almost nobody else has is my next move. I want people to know me by scent lol
Fragrance is never first thing about person. Nobody will know you by any scent, maybe someone will remember, that you have good taste in fragrances, but not more than this.
@@shtein4476 Hmmm I guess I worded it wrong, but I didn't really mean it that way It's more like when I smell a certain scent, I automatically associate it with a person I know just cus they smell like that 24/7
tom ford black orchid, amazing dark insence and vanilla with hints of masculine dark chocolate, patchouli and feminine florals and fruits, masterpiece, unique, balanced unisex and really matches how you look in this video.
Dolce&Gabbana's Light Blue Intense is my daily go-to fragrance since i was 17, it has a citrusy and fresh smell to it combined with a little bit of salt water, and i really enjoy it. I had this one time that a friend of mine came back from a trip to the beach and she said "I was drinking a mojito on the sand watching the waves on a late afternoon and it reminded me of your fragrance". Loved this
I absolutely love my brothers and what they've shown me, but they're pretty big nerds - like me. This video felt like them teaching me, just in a topic they're clueless about. Thanks man :)
Hi, I'm a fragrance nerd who just wants to help out. With your recommendation on going for the parfum over the eau de toilette because it lasts longer. Just keep in mind, the projection (the thing that makes the fragrance jump off your skin) comes from the alcohol content. So generally whilst fragrances with higher oil concentrations do last longer, they will not project like an EDT and will sit close to your skin (us frag nerds call this a 'skin scent'). Cheers
also don’t forget to add, all the concentrations just have there qualities , eau de toilettes do project more they usually won’t last long, EDP’s have a mix of parfum and edt, projects while last decently, also good to note that it just depends on the housing and brand, who’s the perfumer, how much quality the brand cares abt
Longevity does not come down to concentration only. It also depends on the fragrance composition and notes. Citrusy and fresh fragrances usually last less, sweet fragrances last longer.
Yo, as a person who has never cared about fashion or anything in this whole world or level of self-care, I gotta say, thank you for these pointers man. It's super daunting looking at all this stuff from the outside.
As someone who’s a beginner in the fashion realm I gotta say my confidence has went up because of it. I would recommend starting off small but to try nonetheless
I bought my brother Armani stronger with you and it the most beautiful “male” fragrance out there I steal it and wear it myself all the time I might even buy a bottle in the future. I think it’s truly a unisex scent that just smells like power and elegance but also somewhat alternative. Idk how to describe it it reminds me of brutalist architecture and my post communist country. My signature is Narciso Rodriguez for her (black bottle) I often get told I smell and look intimidating and people are shocked when they find out I’m actually really shy.
Molecules 04 is my absolute go-to. It's non-linear, low-key, and so damn gorgeous. Love it on myself as well as on others. Close seconds are Byredo's Black Saffron and Jo Malone's Oak and Hazelnut. Both of these are chef's kiss!
Some faves of mine: Mojave Ghost by Byredo Sundazed by Byredo Oud in Bourbon by Scents of Wood Studied by Liis Peau by Arquisite Sydney Rock Pool by Arquisite Unknown Pleasure by Kersosene (Lemon cake vibe) Follow by Kerosene (coffee vibe) One thing I do is use lighter fragrances for the day and then heavier ones at night if I'm going out, especially if I'm wearing my leather jacket. Natural leather smell + oud is an enthralling combo
@@MannyG03_og I live in San Francisco and nearby my apartment there’s the shop Ministry of Scent. They have a lot of great stuff and an online store too
@@pedrogarzon12 I live in London and the only store that sells it ran out and won’t restock for a couple of months. But what do you think of the fragrance? 😂How’s the smell and longevity?
@@MannyG03_og I think it's fun! I think it lasts a decent amount, but not all day into the night. I like putting Unkown Pleasure on one wrist and then Following on the other to get the feeling of eating a delicious cake with coffee
some fragrances i recommend you: Encre Noire (it smells like cypress and it feels like lying down in a dark wood at night) 1979 New Wave (it smells like mint and sandalwood, but then it becomes sweeter, it's like staying in a smoky post punk concert)
Freshly back from my local department store, where I was bombarded relentlessly with scented tester strips by eager sales staff, and succumbed to olfactory fatigue. I found that a lot of what’s on display right now just doesn’t dethrone the wonderful scents I already own in my wardrobe. The more on-hands exposure one has with scents via visiting department stores and purchasing decants, the less mystifying they become, and their acquisition syndrome begins to decline. My two favorite mainstream fragrance brands overall are Guerlain and Bvlgari. As for boutique, I love Amouage. Given your affinity for black clothing and woody scents, I would recommend Lalique Encre Noire, either the original, or Encre Noire A L’Extême.
The Eau de Toilette and Eau de Parfum part is basically wrong. There are many EdT that last up to 10-12 hours and also EdP that last only a few hours. Some EdT even last as long as their EdP counterpart but just differ in scent. I think EdP can be an indicator of better quality ingredients, but in my opinion, this rarely translated to better quality smelling scent ( especially when there are so many synthetic notes that work well)
Yeah exactly, in general EdP are longer lasting than EdT, but there are some cases where an EdT can be longer than an EdP, especially in the case of citrusy EdP that tend to evaporate faster
fragrances are one of those things that ive wanted to get sorta into for a while but seemed kinda daunting and confusing but this was very informative and concise so thank you. your videos are cool mr elitist, keep it up 😎
Really love how Etat Libre d'Orange was mentioned in this video, Hermann A Mes Cotes Me Paraissait Une Ombre is my favorite so far and it works well on guys with long hair like us. Smells like forest after rain, calming, stoic and effortless. Just gives a relaxed vibe to anyone around you as an introvert.
I tried light blue and it made me smell like hotel soap lmaoo. Doesn’t mean it’s bad though I just couldn’t get it out my head when I noticed the similarity
I'm 30 and just ordered my first fragrance sampler. I have no idea where to start, so getting my hands on a handful of scents should give me an idea. All I know is that I like fresh smells, like being fresh out of the shower or opening the window for the first time in the spring. When I think perfume or cologne, I just think of chemical irritants, because that's what I've been exposed to. I'm choosing to try out natural and ethical fragrances first. I wish to find something very pleasing and soothing. 😌
So I purchased Encre Noir bc Im a beginner collector. I was fully expecting to have a tough time with it as so many reviews describe it as "the smell of gloom and doom." I was REALLY surprised at how beautiful I find it to be, and it must play really well off my skin bc EVERY TIME I wear it , I get compliments (middle of summer). I know it'd make a weird signature, plus im generally a cheerful person, but Im seriously considering it. Great video! 😊
For me right now Dior Homme (2020) and Sport (2021) as well as YSL Lhomme are the ones I use in warmer weather, and Parfums de Marly Layton in the winter, super nice fragrances
PEGASUS EAU DE PARFUM by Parfums de Marly. I went hard into fragrances quickly building a nice collection, but when I found Pegasus, I found home... I have gone through 4 or 5 bottles, and while it is the one I love very much, I don't know if I can keep paying $350 a bottle. But still, everyone should check it out. Pegasus longevity and silage are outstanding. Main accords: almond, vanilla, powdery, nutty, sweet, lavender, fruity, floral, woody, fresh spicy. Top notes: bergamot, heliotrope and cumin. Heart: jasmine, bitter almond, and lavender. Base: amber, vanilla, and sandalwood.
I'm that one friend/brother that wears clean fresh musky and warm fragrances. all the fragrances that I wear and people that know me know my scent already. whenever my family members or friends smell my scent somewhere else they think of me
my favorites are Versace - the dreamer maison margiela - by the fireplace Thierry Mugler - pure malt Lacoste - L12.12 blanc eau de parfum Nikos - sculpture homme eau de toilette
My favourite is CDG's Blackpepper, which is also my signature. It smells smokey, fresh and sensual, but most importantly it smells really really "black", I don't know how else to describe it, but if you asked me "what does the colour black smell like" I would point to it. A second favourite would be Burberry London, especially the 2006 pre-reformulation version.
nothing wrong with generic/popular fragrances and theyre popular for a reason but to anyone who wants to find their own "personal" scent thats unique to them, i suggest asking your significant other, friends, family, or yourself what you'd smell like (woody, fresh, warm spicy, gourmand, smoky, dark, etc) i personally like to use Fragrantica for info and comments and 'the perfume guy' to discover brands or certain scent profiles im interested in. It's all really personal. I like warm spicy (cinammon, peppers, amber) and my gf loves wearing incense or herbal scents. good luck find yours!
I personally like THE MATCHA 26 and REPLICAS MATCHA MEDITATION together as my signiture scent. I also switch around with J SCENT ROASTED GREEN TEA. These are more fresh i guess but they are very calming for me. and during colder months if i need more of a kick i go for JSCENT CAFE and REPLICAS COFFEE BREAK :)
as a guy who plays rock and wears black, my perfect signature fragrance is Z&V This is him. Pepper, incense, vanilla and sandalwood. So simple, yet so elegant and mature. Can't recommend enough, this is a unique cheapie.
You look like you're a floral, spicy frag type of guy. My signature scent's Bleu de Chanel EDT. BUT, I also rotate among Y EDP, Dior Homme Sport (2012 version), and Lacoste Blanc. A fragrance usually becomes a signature for me mainly because of nostalgia factor, or when it has accompanied me for a long time. BdC EDT seems to be the most versatile and most fragrant for my nose. I have added recently Acqua di Gio Profumo, Allure Homme Sport Eau Extreme to my collection. I think those mentioned will be my lifetime scents, I feel like I won't expand anymore. Maybe a little bit, if they tend to have new flankers in the future.
I am very in to warm fragrances and Maison Margiela by the fire place is my winter signature fragrance. I'd wear it year around if it were up to me but I find it to be a bit too heavy for my tropical climate. It's unisex in case somebody here is still into gender norms lol.
whispers in the library goes so hard on my skin, that's my usual cold weather scent vs scifi by ellis for warmer weather. Both hit with similar notes but one is "sweeter" while the other is "fresher" and a bit stronger which helps with the summer stank
One thing I'll tell you is that the resell market for fragrances is far superior to any clothing. You can buy a bottle, use it occasionally for 2 years, and sell slightly below purchase price (or greater if it's no longer available).
Oh god I hate when fashion people talk about perfume. I wish you guys would stay in your lane and stop promoting misinformation. There’s no such thing as “oil based” perfume. There are some perfume cultures where perfume comes in a carrier oil these are called “attars”. But ALL perfume contains oily ingredients and ALL European perfumery contains a mix of oils, alcohol, water and other chemicals. Longevity should not be your first concern when buying a perfume. What the fragrance smells like should be. Longevity is like the quantity vs quality of perfume. I.e. longer lasting does not always equal better. There are in fact circumstances in which an excellent quality fragrance is designed specifically not to last that long. It’s purpose is to refresh, to be discreet and not to linger. It’s the difference between eating a beef wellington and potato dauphinoise rather than a delicious fresh salad. You wouldn’t eat only the one meal all day every day, and the same is true of perfume. If you do in fact want your perfume to last longer then don’t spray it on the pulse points, spray it on cooler areas of skin will last longer. Smearing *can* alter the fragrance’s composition but not that much and certainly not so much that most people will even notice. Fragrance ingredients are designed to “stick” to skin. They’re not designed to stick to petroleum jelly. Stop wasting your money by putting a barrier between your skin and your fragrance unless you have some kind of intolerance or sensitivity to them. Two spritzes of perfume is absurdly little. That’s precisely why your fragrance doesn’t last - you’re simply not wearing enough of it. Lastly a signature scent is industry marketing bullshit. Most people like 99.9% of them don’t have the sense of smell required to consciously recognise the differences between perfumes unless the perfume contains a particularly novel ingredient. No one will truly notice or give a shit that you smell anything other than “good”. The concept of a signature scent was invented by Coco Chanel (notorious Nazi collaborator and prophetic capitalist) in order to convince you to buy only one fragrance from one brand for the rest of your life, thereby locking you in as a client consumer. You wouldn’t wear the same shoes to everything. People don’t associate you with a signature shoe. The same is true of perfume. Having a small wardrobe or two or three perfumes which are suitable for different kinds of situations is ideal.
Random/obscure scents to try: 1: Prada Luna Rosa Sport 2: Chanel Allure Homme Sport Eau Extreme 3: John Vartatos Vintage or XX Artisan 4: Versace Pour Homme 5: Terre de Hermes 6: Ulrich Lang Lethe 7: Lacoste L.12.12 White 8: Gucci Guilty Pour Homme 9: Monte Blanc Individuel 10: Aventus Green Irish Tweed
Davidoff Cool Water: (Aromatic and Aquatic/Marine) If you are looking for a fragrance for the summer that is NOT the Nautica Voyage and is below 30 dollars with decent silage and longevity, then go for this one. Paco Rabanne Invictus (Original): (Citrusy, Marine, Aromatic) This is a fragrance I would pick over the Paco Rabanne's 1 million just because of its less synthetic smell and it is not as strong and sharp to people's noses. It has enough silage to be smelled from 2 to 3 feet away with the longevity with good silage in a 3 to 4 hour range. It is perfect for date nights and day time/summer which the 1 million fails to do so and is mostly good for colder environments.
i bought cheapies tried many than i find i like bergamot pineapple cinnamon rose iris tobacco watery boozy and salty frags i buy anything with these combos
I dont agree about the concentration thing because if the same line has edt, edp and parfum they usually all smell different and their parfum might be the least performing one and edt could be their best performing one 😅😅
Not to be that guy, but it's not your oils that the scent mixes with. It's your very own personal PH. How acidic or base you are, and depending on the actual scent itself will make the atoms of the scent morph. Lastly, your scent receptors in your brain are also key. I love this vid being that I'm a long time collector of perfumes.
Hey you look like a Diptyque Philosykos guy during the day and a Tam Dao guy at night. Possibly you could be a Le Labo Santal 33 guy during the day too, if you live in NYC
My signature one is Guerlain L'homme Ideal Extreme. You should definitely try it out it has this scent trail of cherries and It's kinda masculine too and It's hot af imo I feel like a god walking with that shit
intense cafe by montale, its kind of over the top if you spray too much but i cant get enough of it. I like smells i can compare to other things i just find them to be more relatable (if that even makes sense) and it smells just like coffee.
Great content but it's difficult for me to know which hair type is mine since there are lot of terms used which I am unfamiliar with, as an example - how much thickness is considered to be having thick hair. I would love to watch a video from you with regards to it. But I really appreciate general informative advice
Carlisle/Oajan by Parfums De Marley - winters/late fall Radical Rose by Matiere Premiere/Musk Therapy by Initio - Springs Elysium by Roja Dove/Layton by PDM - Summers/hot weather and usually I wear Enigma to sleep(I love that fresh cola smell at nights)
Also this idea of edt lasting shorter than some edp and some edp lasting shorter than the parfum concentration is no longer even good as a rule of thumb.
