Finding your passion as an introvert is different. You can't just go there and do things. When I was first starting in my business and came to face this problem I figured out very quickly that the majority of advice are made for people who have no objections talking to the camera and love selling or those who will put profits above anything else. You see I am not them. I am an introvert and activist who runs a non-profit and coaching business where people come always first. That's why I made a channel where I show my fellow introverts, activists, and non-profits how I do it without selling soul and compromising on our values and our true self. But I encourage you to watch this video. Some good gems inside.
I admire people with special gifts. The singer, writer, actor, athlete, etc. who is blessed with a great skill, love doing it, others appreciate it, and they make a tremendously successful living doing it. The rest of us are just trying to make it through despite not having them.
I'm a guitarist and I started playing after watching Sungha Jung's video that poped up infornt of me out of nowhere, his guitar playing skills inspired me to pick up a guitar and give it a go, I picked it up and actually excelled in it... XD I think your gift is really a thing that is unexpected but is there somewhere inside you, you just need to stop comparing yourself with others and explore yourself, BE YOU!! that is NO. 1 GIFT, "No transparency", look for inspiration, that inspiration would lead u to your passion/gift/hidden talent , the thing you would love to do most. that's my story
Lovely! Marie, I used to say 'I don't have a creative bone in my body', my younger sister was the artist in the family, I was a linguist. However, back in 1993 I encountered the Aura-Soma colour system and over a number of years I noticed that the colour associated with creativity and creative communication kept coming up as my unsuspected gift and talent. When one has an Aura-Soma consultation there is an actual 'Gifts and Talents' indication!! Eventually I was drawn to silk painting, became an Aura-Soma teacher, and since about 2007 I have been making wonderful gemstone and pearl jewellery and rosary beads!! Currently I have just built a studio in my back garden and my project for this year is to realize a dream of creating colourful handpainted silk ties and matching silver and enamel cufflinks and tie clips... go Aura-Soma colour!!
I loved how you used the word "Strengths" to not make the idea of gifts overwhelming. This perspective helped me a lot. I realized why I was not enjoying a particular position and it was because I did not get an opportunity to use my core strengths at all and that's why it didn't feel aligned. I learn the job responsibilities pretty quickly so I perform well, but does that really bring me satisfaction? Seeing this video, I feel that making use of my strengths majorly is very important, because that's natural and that's what helps us nurture our joy within. Thank you, beautiful Marie! ♥
I think my gift is planning, organizing and facilitating but doing all that behind the scenes. I discovered this when I was part of a group that was in charge of a special project and a number of people pointed out that this role in the group really suited me. I had the opportunity to plan and organize things for a dance team when I was the captain and I have to admit I wasn't the best captain in terms of building a good relationship amongst the team but I was good at creative direction. So I found a strength and a weakness. And as a matter of fact, when I joined the group I spoke of previously, before we started working on the project, I actually told one of my peers that I didn't think there was anything special about me or my life. I didn't feel like I had a particular gift that no one else had or that I was the best at. But I learned that no one is the best at everything, there's always somebody better, there is only one you, and that you is always interesting because there is nothing else in this world like it, nor has there ever been, and nor will there ever be.
Girl... What you said^^^^. You are the Puppetmaster. As. Am. I. It can be quite lonely up there. But it is a powerful position. Think about it... What a gift!
I took a leadership class recently, and in the class we were asked to ask our friends and family, "When was I at my best?" When you are at your best you are naturally using your strengths and gifts. Asking this question will bring some eye opening results and will reveal your true strengths!
Thank you for your video and explaining that gifts are strengths which makes it easier for me to figure out mine. What I actually don’t agree with is the phrase “gifts that ONLY YOU have”, which makes it impossible for me to figure out bc many of my strengths or gifts many people also have, therefore leads me to dismiss mine. I believe none of us have that 1 thing that only we individually have, but we all share strengths and gifts that we were gifted with, some have it stronger than others and some have nurtured it more. But this video really helped me in figuring out my gifts or strengths, so thank you. Been on this journey of reflection and changing my career but can’t decide what I would be good at doing.
Hey there! Thanks so much for so openly sharing with us. We totally see your perspective. While we may have many gifts and share them with others, there are some things that come so easy to us that it's truly our gift. It definitely can be hard to find because it comes so easy to us, but we know you'll find it. We believe in you and are cheering you on throughout this journey! - Monauar, Team Forleo
Thanks. I read the book 1:45 and it kinda surprised me. It actually stated what I'm INTERESTED in vs what my strengths are? To me there is a subtle difference between the two?
2:52 🤣 epic! Although yes I agree that's one of my natural strenghts. Solving complex problems and creating better, simplier, easier, and accesible solutions on the get go. I just like it when things work out perfectly and in harmony. Wifi connection problems really gets me..... lol
Gday Maria, great video. My A to your Q is: 12 months ago I just knew I had to find clarity to my own purpose or calling. I was really good at lots of things and helped my clients achieve massive measurable results, but I really lacked a focus and had no ability to be centered. I was questioning myself "What am I doing here?" So I looked back at all the work I had done with my clients over the past 15 years. What got me most jazzed and where I helped my clients achieve their biggest "AHA" moment came down to the same common denominator, the cross-road of what I loved doing and what the world needs. It came down to one single thing...purpose. So 12 months ago I started my crystalised journey as the Prophet for Purpose. I truly believe, I have witnessed it and it is proven in companies doing good all over the world that "if you become the prophet of you purpose, you will profit from your purpose". Keep up the awesome work...on purpose
Great video, Marie! To respond to your CTA: "What Color is Your Parachute" really helped me gain clarity and focus. Not only is this a career-finding must have, it's really just a great way to take inventory on your own skills, passions, and dreams.
I feel like my gift is empathy, hard worker, always bring happiness, maybe even decorate or improve things. The question I have is how do I create a job out of these skills?
@@isamatulaI took it, and… he talks about interests, but they’re very esoteric. It was confusing, to me. Like she said, positivity and communication. Those are not interests. I was looking for strengths, like counseling and music, like playing a guitar. I’ll go back and look at it again. Curious, have you read it?
Thank you for this information. It is very helpful. My takeaway is to: Recognize that I have strengths. Asking myself what are my strengths make more sense. Growing up and attending school we are often taught that gifted people are the really smart ones who make A's all the time. Everyone with lower grades are not gifted. This is probably one of the reasons why so many of us think we do not have a gift. Not to forget how often people are told that they did things the wrong way; no you can not do this or that ; and on and on and on.
This is such a good point, Carol. And a very powerful shift in perspective. You absolutely have unique strengths and we're so grateful you're sharing them with the world. Keep up the wonderful work - you're an inspiration! ❤
Marie, this might be slightly off topic, but your wardrobe and hair is always on point! It would be amazing if your hair and wardrobe team made a second channel designed specifically for fashion/beauty advice
+Berry Stylish ❀ She has a stylist who dresses her and does her hair for the shoot. She sometimes shows the stylist making the finishing touches. You can often see that it's the first time that Marie is encountering the dress or the jewellery that is being put on her for the shoot. What she brings are the raw materials of her amazing hair and body.
Oh, Marie, this made me cry. I was thinking how would I have felt when I was a teenager, if someone would've done such a beautiful gesture for me the way you did for Aja. I'm so happy for her!!
I come from the communication tree🌳 I learned that about myself from people telling me I'm a good writing lyricist, good story writer, a good salesman, good debater, good conversationalist, giving good inspirational advice, good listener, good reporter and a good teacher. But the string that pull me the most is the lyrical writing which I have a tub of lyrics that I've created over a two decade span something like 23 years on the side of working in retail. I truly believe that's the best to use my communication gift whether I make a living off it or not I just know that string sing to me different than the other ones for some reason.
Thank you Marie- so well thought out and simply shared! Loved the quote at the end:) My strengths are: Curiousity, I always ask such unique and insightful questions. Positivity- I uplift everyone around me so effortlessly Therefore- I am going to be a TV host and have my own talk show focusing on health and happiness:) see you there:)
Thank you!! Yes, I agree that you should call them strengths. It helps people who get stuck in perfectionist all or nothing thinking. You can focus on mini successes and strengths you have-- like motivating people and helping them. Or talking to random strangers in the airport haha!
I took his strength finder test and my strength was something along the line of "being able to see possible danger down a given path." The problem is no one wants my strength. How do I use this? Frustrating to say the least. Also, get and watch the movie Trombone Player Wanted - by Buckingham.
That sort of observation is invaluable ! Health and safety , Risk assessment , insurance scenarios, employment environment safety. Hope you have found your way with your great gift . x
I sure hope you took in Ezra's input about "health & Safety, Risk Assessment, Insurance Scenarios, Employment Environmental Safety. Those are wonderful suggestions. Somewhere in there I can't help but think you're a writer -- just from your cool RU-vid name! Whatever your gift is, there are people who need it!!! Wish you the best!
Wow obviously you’re great example of EVOLUTION, Pardon me It deserves more love , going from bar tending to where you are NOW, thank you for reaching for the stars and reminding us about evolution that is not impossible to achieve .
According to a strengths test my nr1 strength is "personal growing" next on the list are: being critical, knowing who I am and motivate others. How in the hell am I going to make a living with these four traits.??
You look beautiful as always. Great video..I pinned and tweeted it. My special gifts are I think giving back and design. I'm working on how to combine the two.
Maybe it's not your gift but something you've just learnt and became good at it..? I follow Steve Harvey here who says that "your gift is the thing you do at your absolute best with the least amount of effort.”
Martha,I read your profile on Google and i share in your ideals and will like to connect with you. Currently, i am reading a course in digital marketing and the future looks bright. One of my dreams is to surround myself with positive people who can ADD VALUE to my life and from what i read from your site on google...i will like to connect with you as a friend. Hope to hear from you Regards Godson gkotey@gmail.com
I survived 50+ years of CPTSD and Complex Childhood Grief. Attempted suicide at 15, had a spontaneous out of body experience and decided to come back to earth. I'm 65.. I'm healing. R
Thanks. I like to watch you very much. You are fun and professional. Now: The topic is huge and the 8 min video is very good but it does not do much for people looking for answers around the theme.
Thank you for this reminder. Even as an "older adult," I still have to deal with the s-h-itty committee in my head. "That mean voice in your head is not true and that's not you." !Marie Forleo
Saira, that was two years ago. As we go through life, we are always becoming more aware than we were before. Might there be people in your life that you have known for a long time and who are close to you that might be able to point out things you are naturally great at? You probably have more to offer than you know.
@@p2prelates934 thank you for this! You are right, it took me some time to know myself better, I was been beating myself up for not accomplishing things people my age were but I'm trying to accept that, and remember that my circumstances were different. I want to be a writer, I always knew that deep down but I was scared to pursue it. I still need to find another career to keep me afloat for now and incase I'm never able to be a full time writer if it doesn't bring in enough income so I'm still in a bit of pickle but I definitely believe in my self more than I did 2 years ago!
Well 7yrs down the line and still watching, I'm 23yrs going 24yrs in October but I recently decover that I can sing but I don't know how to go about it with the kind of quiet and shy person that I'm but then I don't know if this can work.
Bruh I can work at something for months and somebody comes along in my life that is like “ oh that’s easy” and just obliterated me at it like I just wanna be good at something
This Marie Forleo youtube feature of How To Find Your Talent & Discover What You're Meant To Do In This World contains some encouraging and empowering ideas. It is also enjoyable how the youtube author (Marie Forleo) utilizes an example from her life on helping someone logically andor intuitively decode their talent(s) andor strength(s).
my haha moment is when you said to look our gifs like stregts. Then you said this strengst are is us for our life. Now I can see that I dond need to find a single type of career for the rest of my life but instead look for best jobs to use my unique strengsts. Thank you.
Anyone interested in finding our more about how they are wired should take an MBTI assessment (Meyers-Briggs.) It show you how you are naturally wired and with proper coaching you can be a very powerful tool in determining the how to live the best version of yourself.
Hi Marie I love you videos... I also feel the same way I am trying to go to school and it’s so hard I still don’t know what I should really focus on and it’s kind of stressful...
@marieforleo, thanks I think I'm gonna be fine now after watching your video. Can you imagine I have been asking myself this question ever since I heard a religious mass sermon talking about this mysterious "gift" we all have? Now I know the answer is my no.1 strength, isn't it!
It's a massive talent yes!!! That means that you can hold a safe space for people. Maybe they can open up in your presence or they thrive and do their best work. It sounds like you could do something related to counselling, guidance, comminication, therapy and so on... Maybe you could lead a team or communicate between people. Or you teach how to be non-judgemental. Do you know nonviolent comminication? And being a philosopher is a sign that you are interested in the complexity of life. Maybe you are good at engaging in complex concepts or understanding the world or other humans... :)
i just discovered my strength ^^ i think my strenghts are my body are flexible (however not as flexible as other ballerina but i can say that im better than other people and if i train myself more i think i can be more flexible like ballerina), my another strenght are i dont easily give up on my dream (i have failed so many times but i still showing up)
I have been good with using Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word and using computers from when I was a child and have been good at using computers, Microsoft Word, and Excel. I am best at with the least amount of effort. And I have a desire for it. Is this my gift or skill?.
I am a new RU-vidr and you are top on my 'To Watch' people. Not only do i watch you for personal Inspiration but lm learning a tonne of stuff i need to improve on as well on my show! #ThankYou :-)
I have just recently discovered for myself your channel and I LOVE IT! Thank you so much for what you are doing. I think it is so immensely important to motivate people, teach them confidence and show that even their most unrealistic dreams can come true!
