Nice color! One thing I've learned about mounting a fiberglass or ABS plastic hoodscoop on a metal hood is that the different materials will expand and contract differently with temperature changes. This could cause splitting and cracking.
I know this is old, but probably the most helpful video I've seen on hood scoops ! Could you list the bonding materials used to fix the scoop to the hood? Trying to make note but you used alot during the video. Thanks
back in the 70s when prostock scoops first came out we used vw guard rubbers between the scoop n bonnet it looked great n was easy if you had to take scoop off
Great to see the final part of the car done. nice work. the scoop really sets it off. Any tips on getting the jig saw to cut straight on the bonnet? Ive never used a jig on sheet metal, always gone the cutting wheel but it looked meet and the less sparks on fresh paint = great idea.
Have you ever been pulled over by the cops driving this? Isn't the scoop opening oversized? I got one a couple days back and still deciding whether it is a good idea to install it.
What exhaust setup are you running on your mighty XF? I took the exhaust system off my EL XR6 and was thinking about cutting the two smaller mufflers out and just leaving in the last big one but whatever you're running sounds perfect. Also any tips on putting a fiberglass BA bonnet bulge on so you can't see the square patch around it?
Hi mate thanks, The exhaust system I have on mine is "Wildcat Headers" (Extractors) with a 2.5" inch System no cat, and if you have a fiberglass bonnet then you can get artistic with filler and round off the edges as you like but just be careful not to go too far in or you will get holes open up, It may be worth getting some help from a mate doing that step as I did on this bonnet scoop, 2 heads are better than one and if you know a panel beater then thats perfect, Good luck mate.
The Gunman Thanks for the reply. I'm doing my pre apprenticeship for panel beating and wanted to build my falcon by myself as something of self accomplishment so i didn't want any help from a pro but I tried making the BA bulge fit the bonnet as best as possible before i fiberglassed it on and smoothed it out with body filler but it doesn't look factory like other ones i've seen. I guess i'll just have to bite the bullet and get someone to do it for me haha.
Yeah its probably not recommended but I'm using solvent base so it wont rust. and it's all out of sight so all it is doing is stopping the metal from being exposed.
@@TheGunmanChannel Ok thanks for getting back to me, I really like how it's made, it reminds me of the one I use to have on my 88 Fox body, but mine was more rectangle, now I'm building a 94 sn95, and my wife says it needs to be with more rounded corners, my carb. breather sticks completely out of hood so I have to have something lol.
