I’m taking this video to my lift guy and having him copy and paste everything you did to yours !!! Absolutely love that look !! So 3 and 1/2 inch RC lift , rims with a negative 12 offset and 305 tires ! That truck looks like a ford raptor !! Love it
I agree, great video about tire offset and how to fit larger tires. Looking at your old trd 4 runner wheel set up and you answered my questions. Thank you!
Im in the process of researching for lift and tires. Man, Im glad I happened on this video… its very informative. It seems all the wheels Im seeing are -12 offset. Why do they advertise these wheels gor a Tacoma?!
Glad it was helpful! I think they push the -12 because people like that “aggressive stance” look where the wheels poke out. Little do most people know that makes the tire rub like crazy. It’s a fine line between tire size, wheel offset, and rubbing if you’re not willing to cut the cab mount.
Please correct me if I’m wrong…but I could’ve swore I heard b4 that when running + offset rims, you have a greater chance of rubbing the UCA’s or even hitting the coilovers at articulation. Idk but I rather rub on the cab mount and fender liners/ bumper than those other components because as you stated…there are things you can do about it to fix the rub.
That is correct! OEM wheels or wheels with a really high positive offset +10 or more will definitely rub with bigger tires on the UCAs/coil overs. That’s why I said you don’t want to go too high on the positive offset, just enough to clear the cab mount without rubbing any other internal components! Usually 0-+4 is a good spot for clearing 285/70/17 tires with no rubbing and a 2in lift.
@@D_Cali_Life really the mor negative the offset the harder it’ll rub. Mine are -25 now and they’d rub like crazy without a CMC and some bumper trimming
Thanks for the video! I currently have 285/70/16 with 0 offset rims on a 1.5” leveling kit. I’m upgrading to a 2.5” suspension in the front which should solve the rubbing issue. Thanks again
currently running stock TRD rims with a +30mm offset, 285/70/17s with a 3.5in lift kit. IF I didn't have these 1.5in spacers in they would be a nightmare on the rubbing issue, currently they rub on the cab mount. With the 1.5in spacers I currently have a -8mm offset and it just so barely rubs on the cab mount while full weight truck and turning all the way left or right. Would getting a wheel with a negative offset such as in the range of -12 thru -20 fix my rubbing issue with the cab mount? I don't mind trimming the fender or plastic parts, what would be annoying is to do the CMC in general. I hope that running -12 thru -25mm offset wheels will fix this problem. Please let me know :)
Great video .Very well said or explained. I do wanna hear your say on my 2019 tacoma trd off road. I have a 285 65 18 with zero offset . What lift size would you recommend . Thank you
Thanks man. It’s the Body Armor 4x4 Hiline Series Front Bumper. Places like tacomabeast and runnin4tacos have it for sale but I got it off Amazon! Was a little cheaper there at the time.
I'm about to go with a 3in front, 2in rear leveling kit with 285 70 R17 tires with a -25 offset for my wheels, you think that in itself would need trimming??
@@JordanMcKeithan Don't wanna take up too much of your time but I want to expend my options before doing cab mount chop. What's the chances, in your opinion, of a -12 offset also probably needing that cab mount chop and more
@@hybui123 -12 might be better but you’ll probably still need it man. Pretty much as soon as you start dipping into a negative offset situation, you almost have to do a chop to make it not rub. For example, previously I ran 285/70/17 on a 2.5 in lift with wheels at a +4 offset and had no rubbing issues and no chop. Then I added a 1.5 in wheel spacer (similar offset to -12) and immediately rubbing like crazy.
Hi ,Questions I have my 2022 TRD pro I'm thinking to lift up with 3" spacer and thinking to put 285/70 or 75 whit the17" factory wheels You think that not rub Or what biggest tire I can go with?
Hello, would you think the Tacoma would rub with the TRD PRO wheels 285/70r17 and a TRD Lift kit from Toyota? Has anyone done this? Let me know if you have experience with rubbing or no rubbing at all! Thanks!
@@JordanMcKeithan I have a rc spacer lift but I’m not going to put in on I don’t think it’s a good option but it came with blocks can I just use that ?
Same ones as these but in black. Looks like they’re sold out on the RRW website. www.sdwheel.com/buy-wheel-offset/RR6-H-1785-25139-BR/rrw-rr6-h-17x85-25
Maybe but my guess is that it’ll still rub. I know 285 with -12 offset will rub on a 3in lift so anything bigger would rub even if it’s an inch taller.
If you want to go bigger, just get a cab mount chop to play it safe. Or try it and see how it works out for you. Based on what I’ve seen most people that go over 285 tire size have to get a cab mount chop regardless of lift height unless you have a 6 in lift. Then you can clear 35s
Great video! Quick question with your set-up, are you able to clear deep dips on full turns when you’re on the trails or off roading? That’s a really great looking set up.
Either different set of wheels with a different offset or small set of 1-1.25in hub centric wheel spacers but that might make you rub on the body mount.
The bigger the tire the more the truck will strain. The gearing needs to be replaced. Unless you go full modification and thats more money 💰 💰💰 just saying 😏 🤷
Why didn't you run 315s? 305s fit easy on this setup with a 3in lift and the 4RUNNER trd pro wheels with no rubbing. Also did you need to re gear on the 305 tires???
Because my wheels are a -25 offset so 315 would rub compared to 305s. I have not regeared. But I would like to in the future. The truck needs it for sure.
@JordanMcKeithan I got the RC lift to love it. Can't beat it for the money. Wish you showed what you did in the Fender to fit the 34s. Not many videos besides people just doing a hack job or ripping it out. I'd like to keep the Fender lining don't want to have to cut it. I'm running the same setup now just been rubbing. Did the CMC but need to do something with the pinch weld area is where I rub.
@@BlueSTI if you check out my Instagram @slvr.taco you can see I have a reel and a story highlighting in more depth what I did to the fender flares to make them fit.
@@SukhwinderSingh-gz5qk thank you! Sure thing. The prices really depend on what you are willing to pay. Mine is more of a budget build in a way but it could be done cheaper than I did it or waaaaaaay more expensive. For example you could get a very simple spacer lift for like $300, it’ll cost probably close to $800 for install if you can’t do it yourself. Then for wheels are tires that’s up to you and how much you want to spend. All in for a build like this, you are looking at roughly $1,300-$1,550 all together after parts and labor.
I'm late to the show . But man i loved my Tacoma until i started wanting to go with 33s . Its crazy the amount of maths and decisions you have to make to get the perfect ( In my eyes ) setup . Its like Toyota intentionally made it hard to put a 33 inch tire on them . My 21' Tacoma is a everyday driver until hunting season . I don't go out and rock crawl with it - I have a TJ on 35s for that , so the few times i tried to get some real life do's and dont's and you don't want to run 265/70 all terrains .. You now have a mall crawler lol the Tacoma community is by far the most toxic and i love it 😂 I have 265/70/16 BFG KM3s and it just doesn't look right . They look way to small for my truck . A 33 or 35 is proportionate
That stance!! What else did you upgrade when you ran 33s” /Diff drop/needle bearing swap??? Would like some advice going with bilstein 6122/5160. 2”. Great vid by the way
For the same wheels with a -12 offset you think I can get away with running 305 or what do you think I can get away with? Got jba uppers and eibach stage 1
Did you need the full 3.5” and 2”? I have the SPC, CMC. 2020 TRD Pro which comes with 1” on front and then added 2” front 1.5” rear. Curious if I can manage the same set up with a viper cut
Much mahalo's for the clarification for bigger tires. Question? I do have 2017 tacoma sports 2wd. Is 305/70r17 ok? My truck is lifted fox with maxtrac spindle lift 6.5 my wheels is xd -10.
I have a 23 trd off road. I don’t go off road at all. I don’t want to cut or chop anything. I was gunna do the ready lift 3” front/2” rear I want to run 285/70/17. I could settle for 275/70/17. Do you think I’ll have rub issues. The wheel I want comes in 0 offset, +18, or -12. Obviously 0 would be it. What’s your thoughts on rubbing? Great video!
You’ll probably be alright might have slight rub at full lock with 285 but it might be safe. +12 is too positive, you may risk rubbing on internal components like your upper control arms. -12 would probably rub if the cab mount for sure.
@@JordanMcKeithan I really appreciate your reply. I knew 0 offset was the one. I’ve seen many guys with a 2/1 lift run 285’s with minimal rub. I was also going to do 8.5 width versus 9. Thanks again. Very informative!
It's hard to say man. Usually the second you get into negative offset, you're going to have some rubbing going on. To give you perspective, before I had this setup I had 2.5 in bilstein 5100 lift with 285-70-17 tires and TRD Pro wheels. No rubbing with that setup. Then I tried 1.5 in wheel spacers for a more aggressive stance, immediately TONS of rubbing so I took them off. As you can see just adding the slightest amount of negative offset changes the articulation angle and causes rubbing problems. Better off just getting a chop done if you want to avoid the rubbing and have a wider stance.
I absolutely love the poke on these -25’s if only Fuel made the Covert D694 in a -25 🤦♂️ -12 is the most I can get. Hoping to find a wheel I like as much.
285/70/17 maybe. Without any cutting its going to be tough with any negative offset wheel unless you’re willing to deal with some mild rubbing. But I’d say 285/70/17 would be your best bet.
@@stay4theride gotcha. I understand that. Well the only thing I can compare it to would be my old 4 runner. I had a 3 in lift with 285/70/17 and a 17/9 -6 offset wheel. It rubbed a little on the plastic and slightly on the cab mount at full turn in reverse.
Hey bro. Just watched your video and I absolutely love it. I have a 2020 taco that looks pretty close to yours. I am planning to run 285/70r17 on it with the trd pro wheels like your old set up. My only question is did you rub on your upper control arm? I see you didn’t do any body mount chops or any trimming to not rub within the wheel well. But I’m concerned abt the control arm. Thanks for the very detailed video bro!
Man I love the stance and look of this truck and its exactly how I want mine to look. I have the gen 3 2021 TRD OR. How is the ride quality for you? Stiff? Noisy? My truck is my one and only vehicle and I dont want to make it annoying to drive. Im a bit concerned about the tire size. MPG to me isnt a big deal, I care more about it being a good daily driver.
Thanks man, I appreciate that! Ride quality is a little more stiff that factory to be honest but I don’t mind it. It’s certainly not as rough as a puck strut spacer would be. The tires are a little loud on the highway but that’s nothing that music can’t cover up lol.
Hey man! Sick truck, I have the same color. What rough country are you running? 3.5 lift? Right now I have the 3inch leveling kit from rough country but debating to go 3.5 inch lift
@@JordanMcKeithan if I have the 3inch leveling kit, what best tire size would run good without any rubbing/cutting issues with the rims I bought from ssw 17x9 -25 offset?
@@Aaronchristiann it’s hard to say man. That’s a heavy negative offset so it would have to be a smaller tire to not rub without any cutting. You could probably get away with -12 offset or less with 285/70/17 maybe without rubbing issues. But to fit 305/70/17 with the -25 offset, I have to do a cab mount chop plus some plastic trimming so they won’t rub.
I am looking at 17x8.5mm -10mm wheels and was hoping to get 265/70R17 or down one to 265/65R17 you think I will have issues on a stock trd off road? Should I play it safe and get 16x8 0mm.
I had that size tire on the trd off road, and I trimmed most of the bottom edge plastic in front and behind the tire. After trimming it didn't rub while turning on a reg flat road but I can't say it won't rub when turn when the wheel is flexed. Also in reverse while turning, you will rub slightly
