A step-by-step guide showing you how to install a pair of Flush Mount Fishing Rod Holders onto a Sit On Top Kayak.
In this video i show you how to turn your kayak into a fishing kayak by fitting a pair of rod holders! The video shows the installation on a Wilderness Systems Tarpon E 120 but the same fitting process can be used with many kayaks, providing you have sufficient flat space on the deck to install the rod holder. The same process can also be used to fit a flush mount rod holder to a boat.
Flush Mount Rod Holders are great for holding rods whilst paddling about, or to hold a rod whilst trolling a lure behind the kayak. Many fishing kayaks come with these fitted as standard but there are many sit on tops models that can be turned into decent fishing kayaks by simply adding some rod holders - including the Wilderness Systems Tarpon 100, Tarpon 120, Perception Triumph 13 and RTM Tempo Standard to name a few.

That was great now I know how to do that. Nice 1!!! Was wandering could you do a video on how you would strap your kayak to a car roof rack for long car journeys like 5 hours plus. That would be really helpful to see how you do it?

I love drilling holes in kayaks 🤣 always counterintuitive though but as long as you work above the waterline of the kayak with proper fixings and decent sealant you can’t go too far wrong.

Nice videos, are these style of mounts good for trolling while paddling? or just ideal to store your rods? great instructions!

Thanks Pat 😊 the flush mount rod holders are fine for trolling a lure behind the kayak, it’s just a bit awkward to see the rod tips though as they would be behind you - just set the clutch of the reel and wait for the line to peel off on a take! 🎣

Nice video Liam. What annoys me is that for a job like this, where you only use a small amount of Sikaflex, what is the best way to prevent the remainder from drying up and hardening, before you need to use it again?

Thanks! I know what you mean with the sealant, it’s a shame they don’t sell smaller squeeze tubes. I tend to stick a large screw in the end of the nozzle - the nozzle section will cure but you can use some pliers to pull out the screw with dry sealant attached when you need to use again. Sikaflex EBT only has a shelf life of around 12 months anyway so unless you have lots of sealing to do chances are most of it won’t be used.
