In this tutorial, I'm going to show you how to find 404 errors and then how to fix 404 error in WordPress. You'll learn two ways to fix 404s and you can use the method you prefer.
If you have lots of 404 errors on your site that sends a bad signal to search engines. It means that your site is essentially broken. Having only a few 404 errors is okay, it happens. But if you have lots then you need to address the issue quickly.

What should be done when the plugin doesn't detect a 404 error page, but Gtmetrix shows 404 png picture which no longer exists in the media library? I have 4 of them and they're listed under 'Avoid Bad Requests' 'Pagespeed' & 'Yslow' waterfall chart shows them in red. Would appreciate any help with this as I couldn't find anything on forums after searching for hours. Thank you!

Hello there i have question ,, i lost my website because i moved from one host into another ,, i tried to get full cpnael but the last host keep giving me wrong type of files so my subscription expire with them so i wasn't able to enter my old cpanel so i decided to start from the beginning but my problem is i keep find the old urls result on google so what should i do to remove it from their and not look like i have two websites because i need to make new urls for the new WordPress like home blog about ,, so how can i fix this ? i want to ask should i do everything all over again even my dns to google console even though it verified but it like i have the old urls with out the content and i cant access the old WordPress to delete them and can you tell me how to remove the coming soon sing from google and i do have the website live at the same time??

Hi Jude, Thanks for the compliment! To create a website calculator I would use Gravity Forms. It's a premium form builder that I have a lot of experience with and it does almost everything you need a form to do. Hi Sabina, Sorry for the delay in responding. If you want to keep the category page then don't change anything. If you don't need that category anymore I would delete it and redirect that URL to a different category page or your homepage or some other live page. Hello friend. Please, can you help me? Look at my issue here: I have 9 pages with soft 404, through Search Console. The thing is: that THIS is not a "problem". I'm gonna explain. All of these pages are limited according to the user's access. Users with access (let's say) 1, cannot enter into the pages X and Y and then receive a specific message. And so it goes with Users access 2, 3 etc. Well then. Whenever google passed his robots on these pages, he probably encountered this "error", which is a limitation that I decided to place on the site. Does this negatively affect SEO? These are pages that I have no interest in exposing (including pages like /cart etc). They are not /home or /blog pages (which I want to be found anytime). How to solve that? no-index would work here? Is this a problem btw?

Hi Masoud, Yes, some themes do. You can also create 404s manually by adding a 404.php file to your theme's folder (here's a video for that if you're interested: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-wc_xUC9zgjk.html ). Greetings! I have a wordpress website build with ocean wp and elementor. Now whenever I want to edit my page with elementor, it shows 404 error page not found. I have tried the instructions given by the elementor official page, but all of these options not worked. Please help me out in this regard. Thank you!

Hi Mubashir, What were the instructions given by Elementor? Is the 404 appearing when you try to edit the page Elementor or when you try to view a built page? The first thing to comes to my mind is resetting your Permalinks. Go to Settings then Permalinks. Scroll to the bottom of the Permalinks page without making any changes and click on Save. That may fix the issue.

Do redirects work for deleted posts? I'm having a real issue with my site not being indexed or searchable anymore because i deleted a post. I'm not sure if I can redirect it or not.

Hi Andy, If you are using an .htaccess rediect you can redirect URLs that don't exist, like a deleted post. Once you have the redirect in place Google Search Console will update eventually, removing the 404 warning. Or you can mark the 404 as resolved in GSC. I hope that helps and thanks for watching!

@@wplearninglab I'm not very knowledgable with web development, I just use the basic tools. As far is .htaccess redirect, I'm not too sure what it is. I have yoast premium and its suppose to redirect for me right? So is there something wrong with the site if I did a search on google for my exact website and it still wont show up?

Question for you. I'm writing a new blog on my word press. I hit the preview button then I get "page not found" message. Not sure its a 404 error because there is no 404 message. This never happened before I've written over 10 blog post... Any ideas of why this is and how to fix it? Thanks

Sorry for my delay in responding! "Page not found" is a 404 error even if it doesn't say "404" on the page. Hopefully, you've resolved this issue, but if you haven't here's what I would do. Go to Settings then Permalinks. Scroll to the bottom of the Permalinks page without making any changes and click on Save. That should clear up the issue. Hi Abdul, The 404 error just means the page or the site can't be accessed. So if by "all my websites say 404" you mean you own and host the websites then it's likely a problem with your hosting account. If by "all my websites say 404" you mean any website you visit from a Google search then it may be a problem with your internet connection. I'm looking for a solution that will fix my WordPress dashboard that is going to 404 pages after I click any links within the dashboard. An example I go to my wp-admin, then log in, my dashboard loads. Then any links like, appearance, plugins, post, or anything that is a link on my WordPress dashboard. The colour overlay is created using CSS, so it could be that your CSS isn't refreshing on the front end. This sounds like a caching issue. There are some other tricks you can try to force your CSS changes to be applied: 1. Try a hard refresh: Ctrl + Shift + R on your keyword for Windows or CMD + Shift + R on a Mac 2. If you're using Google chrome check your site in a different browser like FireFox to see if the changes are applied. 3. If you have a caching plugin like W3 Total Cache or WP Super Cache installed, clear its' cache and deactivate it while you're making CSS edits. 4. Try installing a Cache Killer add-on to Chrome to see if that helps, here's a tutorial for that one: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-CegkzTkcQq0.html If it is a caching issue, one of those should help. If none of those work, then we rule out caching as the problem.

Hey Curtrice, That sounds like a problem with the RU-vid app. A 404 error means you're internet is working, but the page you're trying get to doesn't work. Is your Android updated to the latest OS?

Need help! Made a massive error when adding Ithemes to my wordpress plugins. I've Gone into SSL Certificate and Forced the SSL I knew My site had no Support SSL and it has made my site unavailible-Your connection is not secure 404 error please help!!!!

The first thing I would do is deactivate the iTheme plugin. Since you can't access your site you can do it via your hosting cPanel. Do what I show in this video, but instead of changing the folder name of the plugins folder open the plugins folder and change the folder name of the iThemes plugin folder: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-UrVbGptXABw.html If that doesn't work, check in your htaccess if there is "force SSL" code. The .htaccess may looking like gibberish code, so some Googling will be necessary. Let me know how it goes!

Really, Really appreciate your Help Sir my URL is mansbestfriend.info/ I have tried going into my Site Ground Cpanel and deactivating my plugins this has had no effect, I'm still unable to get back into the WordPress admin area it just comes up with a - Your connection is not secure - 'The owner of mansbestfriend.info has configured their website improperly. To protect your information from being stolen, Firefox has not connected to this web site' I've tried to add it to an exception but am diverted to a - 404 We're sorry, the page you requested cannot be found. Thankyou again. my fat fingers are a Nightmare :/

I just tried accessing your site in Google chrome and the non-https version loaded fine. Great looking website! If you still see the errors in Firefox it may be a caching issue. Try in a different browser or clear your cache and cookies. There are also SSL settings in Siteground, here's their help page: www.siteground.com/tutorials/getting-started/install-a-certificate/ Siteground also has great support, I'm sure they would help.

With just a page in Elementor or all Elementor created pages? I would try resetting Permalinks. Go to Settings then Permalinks. Scroll to the bottom of the Permalinks page without making any changes and click on Save. That may fix the 404 issue.
