if you have a good AVR I personally recommend following this tutorial for high quality uncompressed sound

Amazing man! I was not able to get 5.1 audio working since I upgrade to B650 and Windows 11. Follow your tutorial and it work like a charm. Wonder why it is not in Windows by default! Thanks for this share!

@@juliencaron7581 it's because Microsoft and the motherboard manufacturers decided to stop paying for the Dolby and dts licences

@@SirQuacksalotthe1st Ohhh Good to know, back on my Z97 Hero, I just had to install the realtek driver provided by Asus and the 5.1 DTS was there in the dropdown menu, I gues Asus paid the DTS fee back in the days! Happy that we have video like this to enable things we assume are there by default. Literaly pick this board because it as SPDIF out, most B650 Asus board dont.

@@mustaqeemrajpoot5632that's called upmixing there should be an option in your receiver called dolby pro logic or dts neo both are used to turn none 5.1 audio into fake 5.1

What is that Microsoft have against Optical cables? First, they remove it from the Xbox, then they won't support 5.1 on Windows 11?

You are a GOD my man!!! worked like a charm, took a few tries but that was just me . Previously i tried EVERY video i found and read lots, hours wasted , really sad how locked up this is , should be very straight forward and i bought all good PC gear , just to have no surround sound no matter what i did. Thanks so much!!

I was getting a lot of static noise so I had to go in and under the advanced tab uncheck the box that allows applications to take exclusive control of this device that seem to work for me. If anybody else is having this problem I would do that

I tried this on Windows 11. It doesn't work for me. I installed DTS Connect and DTS Digital. (I needed Microsoft c++ 2008 redistributable package ) I applied DTS Connect in Fx Configurator (I needed AutohotKey v1.1 to launch it ) but there's no "DTS Interactive" in advanced tab. I don't know what I missed.

Does this work with games? Like if you set in game audio to Windows default while having optical connected to a 5.1 system, does the game know to output 5.1 surround sound?

@@georgeg.7508short answer yes long answer will depend on the game actually having surround sound support your need to set the game to surround sound in its settings also will depend on the weather the game supports Dolby digital or DTS

Great tutorial ! Really appreciate it! This method applys to nVidia/AMD HDMI HD audio in windows. However, The DTS interactive seems not to work on Intel Arc. Only old Dolby digital format works.

It does not work with god of war Ragnarok, there is no way to play surround sound with that game via SPDIF

Can this work with Realtek on board sound card HP laptop sending signal to spdif over usb c? I tried both audio over usb and hdmi arc but I only get 2 channel output. I tried even an optical extractor from the hdmi to spdif but still no luck, I'm going crazy please help me I'll make sure to buy you a beer after through PayPal

@@SirQuacksalotthe1st it's a msi z170a gaming m7 Wait, i can't play any audio coming from the computer through the speakers? The spdif output only works for dts encoded audio? Anyway, y played the sound test and the test in windows and doesnt works. I checked the input and volume are ok.

@@Pitutortu as in no sound or as in stereo because the windows test sound is not DTS encoded so it won't show that it's working use the test video in my description

@@idied2 by default the sound blaster driver and suite comes with dts installed and yes dts and Dolby both should work properly due to the card being made to use them Surround Sound and Encoding 5.1 discrete surround for speakers, 7.1 virtual surround for headphones, Dolby Digital Live, DTS Connect Encoding, and Sound Blaster Surround Virtualization taken from there site I'd first recommend that you install the official driver and gui suite from theere official site support.creative.com/Products/ProductDetails.aspx?prodID=23374

Unfortunately that's windows 11 itself being a dick the only way to fix it is to do a system restore to a point before you installed the mod this is purely a fault with windows 11 and not the tool

@@rajarshibose9 as said before unfortunately this is purely a windows 11 just being crap unfortunately they only way to fix it is to do a system restore point to before the program was installed. I know it sucks this is due to the way windows 11 handles registry edits I believe this doesn't happen on win 10 or 8 or 7 so it seems like windows 11 just hates us
