On my 72 Bronco, my door latch button was very hard to press and now it's stuck in. Do you think my problem might actually be the outside door handle? Thanks
@wildhorses4x4
@wildhorses4x4 6 лет назад
There is a 95% chance that the process in the video is going to fix your latch button. Very rarely is it the door handle itself. I would definitely give this method a go.

What if you race to your 69 Bronco to escape said cougar and your door won't open... you survive the attack, but your door is still stuck shut and you can't access the screws to the locking mechanism? If I remove the interior door panel first, should I be able to get the door open from the inside somehow to do these steps?
@wildhorses4x4
@wildhorses4x4 3 года назад
First off, you'd be a lucky son of a gun. haha Second, taking your door panel off and accessing the inside mechanisms will work but you will have to diagnose what's wrong. You should be able to open the door from the inside, if the scenario described in the video is accurate. But you could potentially have a broken clip that allowed the rods to slip out and not engage. I would take the door panel off and take a look inside. Feel around the rods, and if any aren't connected, that may be your problem. If all the rods are connected, just make sure the door is unlocked and try to pull on the rods till the mechanism unlatches. Let me know if you have any more questions.

How do the clips on the rods release I don’t want to put too much pressure and snap a piece ?

Yo I have a 95 Bronco and my driver side door keeps breaking. I've had the Bronco for less than a year and have had to fix it twice and it just broke again last night. It's always the interior handle, not the button, so any advice to troubleshoot it so I don't have to go to the shop again?

Hey. Great video. I have an issue with my door lock. The door latch and handle function properly but the door lock works for a bit once I take the door apart and clean up the interior workings. But once I put the door back together it unlocked and locks fine with the key and manually but after about 10 or 15 locks and unlocks and door opens/closes It all of a sudden stops working. then I have to take the whole system apart and start all over again. Any thoughts?

It could be your latch mechanism is worn out at this point. Or perhaps the rod latch is loose. It’s hard to diagnose without staring at it

Okay the hatchback door on the 1984 bronco has two latches and both seem to require the process you just showed us? Please help me do this so I don't fix things that don't need fixed.

How about if your door will lock and unlock just fine, the outside handle works fine, but the inside ones won’t work? (68 F100)
@wildhorses4x4
@wildhorses4x4 2 года назад
I can only guess that one of the rod retainers broke. Pull the door panel off and take a look inside. The door mechanisms look complicated at first, but as you begin to mess with it, they start to make sense. That is what I would recommend doing.

I just ordered a new latch for a 67 resto. The new handle and button work fine, however the inside lever does not. It bends the rod before activating any mechanism on the latch. The latch will not budge with the inside lever. Any suggestions? Good video

Mmm that's a tough one. I don't know the answer to that, but I asked a guy who is gonna work on that same problem soon. He told me you could try to fiddle with the rod lengths but that's all the help he has now. He'll get back to me when he figures out the problem himself:)

My door on mine has a lot of play in the lock, and today I locked it, And the door is stuck. But I can unlock it and lock it again, but it will no longer open. I can get in from the passenger side and the interior handle won't open it. What's the problem?
@wildhorses4x4
@wildhorses4x4 5 лет назад
It sounds like you have a broken rod clip which is why when you unlock the lock, nothing happens. I would crawl in through the passenger side and work on taking off the driver side door panel so you can manually open the door. I'm pretty sure you will be able to pull one of the rods and the door will open. If not, then you may have to figure out which rod needs to be messed with and adjusted in order for the lock to disengage. Once you have the door open, it will give you more room to asses what's wrong and if you see that any clips are broken, you can buy them on our website. Hope that helps! Let me know if you have any more questions!

How does the rod from the exterior door handle connect to the actual latch? My rod has come loose from the latch, and I’m trying to figure out how to reconnect it. Is it a nut, cotter pin, etc.?
@wildhorses4x4

Check out Part #6554 on our website if you have a 66-67. If you have a 68-77, check out Part #6558. In stock Broncos, those clips are usually plastic so they tend to break. Let me know if that's what you're looking for:)

Nothing said in how to get your door open so these steps can be taken. I'm sure there's some Blind, knuckle busting way to get the door open...lol ???
@wildhorses4x4
@wildhorses4x4 4 года назад
Good question haha You may have to tear your door panel off from inside the cab and mess with the latch mechanisms till your door opens. If it's that stuck, it will definitely be a pain. I would try taking the panel off then spraying some type of lubricant in the direction of the latch. That might give it just what it needs to move slightly so you can open the door.
