Mr. KIA knows concrete 😁 EXCELLENT job Mike, I can tell you've been doing concrete for many years buddy, looks great! Kinda ironic tho, I've been looking to buy one of those concrete mixers for about a year now😄just couldn't decide on which one to choose. It might be the Ryobi now👍 was leaning towards the harbor freight Bauer one. Thanks for sharing your knowledge my friend! Jay 🕊🕊🕊

Everything looked great except imbedding the trim and siding in the concrete.
@MrKnowItAllGuru

We did this instead of ripping all of the trim off the house, and all of the wood trim was replaced with Cedar prior to then the area will be caulked so no moisture can get past the concrete so the wood will not rot. It'll be 20 years before anything needs to be done in that area again. Have a great day. Guru Mike

Looks pretty good. I hope it has held up well. Right on about the bleed water! I worked in commercial contracting for 50 years, mostly small scale, so lots of work with concrete. A few suggestions to consider. To seal around the edges you’d need to use the edger all the way around, then use a urethane caulk to seal the joint like MasterSeal NP1, or Sika Sikaflex Polyurethane Sealants (colors available). You can get them in places like Lowes and Home Depot and Amazon, among many others. You can use the same stuff to seal control joints. Yes it's tricky to deal with: kinda like hot bubble gum when it comes out of the tube. Mask the edges carefully, and apply it as smoothly as possible; try some practice runs if you possibly can. Where you absolutely HAVE to smooth it, use a tool, wooden or plastic, cut to shape, or even your finger, and wet it with water before shaping or smoothing. Do NOT apply too much, you can add a bit more faaar easier than you can remove any excess. Avoid smearing it onto onto any other surface! Masking! It won't skin over too quickly to work it, like silicone and latex caulk will. It will cure to a firm, durable rubber, with better adhesion and cohesion and stretch than anything else out there. Clean up with paint thinner, not soap and water. It’ll take about 24 hours to fully cure, but it will last for decades. Next, for concrete on concrete, use a bonding agent to “glue” the new to the old. For small jobs, a latex bond is much easire to use. There are epoxy and cementitious bonders as well. Simply misting the old concrete would be better than nothing, and yes I understand about more bleed water to deal with. Again the same suppliers that have the urethane will have the latex bonder; it looks like skim milk. Some of the bagged concrete manufacturers make their own. Striking a joint where that little “ear” sticks out on each end might save it from breaking off, or throwing out an ugly crack. Another joint right up the middle of the new cap would be a good idea. Concrete tends to “want” to be in squares. The sharp angle where your new concrete joins the old masonry patio blocks would also be a great location for a control joint. AS for concrete cracking, the ready-mix sales rep I worked with said “Yes, we guarantee our concrete. We guarantee it will get hard, and we guarantee that it will crack!” He wasn’t kidding, though he said it in a joking manner. Concrete will crack, the more so with slabs, especially absent luck, even with a lot of extra work, and careful planning of where to put the control joints. Good luck!

What is your opinion of dry pour concrete vs regular mixing?
@MrKnowItAllGuru
@MrKnowItAllGuru 11 месяцев назад
After pouring concrete for close to a quarter of a century, I believe I will continue to pour it the way it's meant to be poured. You can put that into perspective if dry pouring concrete was the correct way to do it that's how they would bring it to you in a 10 yard mixing truck. Concrete is at it's utmost strength when it's poured in one wet unit all together so as to dry in one solid block equally. Would you want a house built on cement blocks that were dry poured? Probably not, there's no strength in dry pouring. It will be very evident in the long term. The only reason you are seeing all of this dry pouring is someone found a lazy way to get some views because people are lazy by nature so they move in that direction. Thanks for watching, have a great day. Guru Mike
