Awesome video but you make this look ✨️effortless✨️ and mine did NOT look like yours 😂 definitely takes finess! Thank you so much for the easy to follow video! Now I just need to practice....
Thank you so much for the kind comment. I suppose the years I have of experience makes it look effortless . But you are right if you practice you will soon be a pro ! 😉
So I’ve got a similar problem. Except the both sides of the corner of the dry wall is chipped off. And the metal part is bent in a little right on the edge of the corner. My concern is the edge isn’t a straight edge. Do you think the compound will fill in the bent and look okay?
hi there good question! if you have a small hammer you can try to straighten a bent corner that way, a small hammer maybe 16 oz and hit it gently to straighten it the best you can then start to apply the drywall compound . hope this helps
Hi Ashley! Thanks for watching and leaving a comment. I'm glad you found this video helpful. I have done many repairs in houses that were full of boys lol
@@TheCanadianHomePainter thanks! So 220 for the skim coat to feather it to the wall? I followed your video and tried it out but I have to say your technique is flawless, mine looks more like, I was going for a flat spot and made an improvised sculpture instead :'-D
@@TheCanadianHomePainter yes. Picasso eat your heart out. Im not sure which way exactly it is looking at me. Profile perhaps? Would you happen to have a website? It would be nice to see where you conduct your business, or what its all aboot! Fellow Canadian here.
Nice, however, I can clearly see the spot showing through that you repaired. I believe once more with the mud would have covered it completely. Just saying. :)
@@KrishnaChaurasia- you can , but depending on the size of the repaired area, you may see where the drywall compound through the paint, the best way to eliminate that chance is to get a gallon of primer and prime the while surface. That's my profession opinion. Thanks for watching and for the comment
Oh, do you have to use mesh with a corner that has been dented (yours is structurally perfect with the metal support but... mine isnt.. You see... *I tripped over my dogs dogfood while holding some bricks (dont ask...and yes I am an idiot)* so, just wondering. I tried to hammer it back straight but I really dont want to cut it out of the wall and replace the entire thing *(argh!)*
That can happen, I have repaired many walls and corners for lots of reasons over the years lol If it is really bad, I will generally remove the old corner and start fresh, it can be very difficult to use a hammer to get it looking right. And since this is my small business I am always trying to get things looking perfect. I use the paper tape metal corner beads, and just use the compound to get it to stick. I have another video demonstrating what I do to install the paper tape corner. Hope it works out
Hi- is it possible to fix the corner of a wall and paint it in the same day? I’m moving out of my apartment and the movers hit the wall. I want to fix it and not be charged a fortune by my landlord.
Yes forsure, you will want to use something like sheetrock 90 first fast drying compound, then a thin coat or the all purpose over that I would just use a hair dryer to speed up the drying of the all purpose, then prime it . The primer will dry fairly quick, if you use bullseye 123 you can paint over it in about 1 hr, after you get a coat on , of you think it needs a second, use the hair dryer again to speed up the drying time and then give it a second coat and it should be fine. All of the products you can find in smaller portion at the hardware store. Depending on the size of the damaged area ofcourse . Hope this helps
Yes this technique is great for a smooth wall, texture are a pain to repair, no matter how hard I try to make it look good I am rarely happy , textured walls and ceilings are really hard to repair. I'm sure if you search it someone will have a good video to demonstrate how to fix it , thanks for watching and for the comment
What I did was after it dried and i smoothed it with sanding block then I added more mud and took and old sponge and stippled texture when that died I lightly sanded again and it match
I just took off a lot of wallpaper so all my corners lost the mud on them so its just metal now. How do you recommend how to fix all the corners in this case.
I would use sheetrock 90 first and recoat the corner, sand that smooth and then 2 coats of all purpose to finish it off with a light sanding at the end
yes in that case if it is pretty banged up, then I will usually replace the corner completely with a new one. it is not to difficult to replace. and might be worth while if it is quite damaged. Hope this helps !
I would advise against that. Spackle isnt the best for a job like the one in this video. Mixing the powder is not too difficult ( should be step by step directions in back of the bag) it will give you superior durability then after that use the pre mixed drywall compound for a couple coats. This would be my profession opinion. Thanks for watching and for your comment. Hope this helped
@@TheCanadianHomePainter I was planning on using spackle, so this is good to know. It there a brand mixing powder and premixed drywall compound that you recommend?
could i not use my all purpose joint compound to do this job? also could you not just use a paint that already comes with a primer already so you can skip the priming step? Thanks!
Great questions!! first I would suggest not using the all purpose for a couple reasons, first it is not as strong as the sheetrock 90 which is used in this video, the other reason is that it will take a lot longer to dry, the 90 will dry hard in about 90 minutes which can be re coated with the all purpose after the 90 is nice and hard.and then the second coat can be put on probably the next day. I will always use a good primer over repairs because it conceals the spots that were fixed up much better. the 2 in 1 paint with primer just doesn't seem to cover repairs the best. Of course this is my opinion and what I would do. Thanks for watching and for your comment
@@TheCanadianHomePainter Thanks again for your quick and thorough reply! Now I have a project to also repaint over my popcorn ceiling as I had one of those yellow water stains. The damage isnt bad and no popcorn falling down. I figure if I use that Sico all in one paint, and use a 3/4 inch nap roller and do in gently I should be able to cover over the stains according to someone elses advice. I covered the stain with zinsser cover up so I hope that painting right over this will suffice. Thanks!
Depending on how bad it is damaged, you should be able to follow the same steps. However a rounded corner might pose a bit more difficulty in the repair. I have not had to fix one yet but I will make sure I make a video in the future if I come across that problem
